Bengals To Get New Unis; New Logo Already Unvieled

Pre-season foes set
Bengals' new logo
3-22-04, 11 a.m.
Updated:
3-22-04, 2:40 p.m. MONDAY NEWS AND NOTES: The Bengals open their pre-season schedule on the road at Tampa Bay the week of Aug. 12-16 before opening up their home schedule Aug. 19-23 against the defending Super Bowl champion Patriots. The fixed dates are to be announced later, as will the regular-season schedule. The Bengals go on the road at Atlanta Aug. 26-30 before ending the preseason at home against Indianapolis Labor Day weekend. . .

On the first day of off-season workouts at Paul Brown Stadium, Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis unveiled the team's new primary logo. It's a block letter "B" filled in with black and orange stripes. The leaping tiger had been the primary logo since 1997, and will still be used in a secondary role, as will the tiger head. . .

Lewis said the club's new uniforms are going to debut April 22 and are "predicated more on movement, speed, and energy." Lewis said it's more than a subtle change, but not radical. But all indications are the striped helmet is staying the same. .
--------

That is from Bengals.com. I am fine with new unis, but if our helmet changes and puts that big crappy B on there I will be pissed. Those helmets should stay the same forever. I know there will be new stylish stripes or "sharper more dangerous" stripes you know, as they always do, like mean up the Seahawk. Grr. Leave the helmet alone.

RendeR 03-22-2004 03:33 PM

That B is the most hideous thing I've seen in years........

k0ruptr 03-22-2004 03:34 PM

OMFG that is the ugliest god damn logo I have seen yet.

Easy Mac 03-22-2004 03:34 PM

That B is fucking harsh

cwilloughby 03-22-2004 03:36 PM

Yeah.
It's sad when fof multiplayer leagues smack it down.

What were they thinking?

CrazyRooster 03-22-2004 03:36 PM

Nah, it's not that bad... for a ten year old using paintbrush it's not

sachmo71 03-22-2004 03:36 PM

File under ugly...

MikeVic 03-22-2004 03:38 PM

I bet their uniforms will be bright orange with black stripes on the shoulder pads. That would make it more than a subtle change, and also screams movement, speed, and energy. ;)

VPI97 03-22-2004 03:44 PM

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

They go for years with a horrible team and a decent logo...and now that the team is actually improving, they switch over to the ugliest thing since... since... I don't know.

Do the Bengals have to adhere to some rule that says they can't have both a good team and a good logo at the same time?

if (team == good)
logo = crappy;
else
logo = good;

BigJohn&TheLions 03-22-2004 03:50 PM

Is it really any worse than the Lions adding a black stripe everywhere they could? I've seen black stripes around a bathtub that looked better...

Kodos 03-22-2004 03:52 PM

Bah. Their unis are hideous any way you slice it. How much worse can the B really be?

Ragone 03-22-2004 03:54 PM

Hell i liked the old bengals logo.. was one of the top 5 in the league i thought.. welcome to bottom 3 in the league!

Maple Leafs 03-22-2004 04:04 PM

When I am king, there will be a new law: sports teams can change their logo and/or uniform once every twenty years. That's it.

Enough with this shit. "Thanks for dropping $150 on a jersey for your kid. But we have a new logo, and our uniforms now have a kind of teal stripe down the side. Better buy a new one!"

There's a reason for this retro uniform craze. People are sick of the real ones changing every fifteen minutes.

Kodos 03-22-2004 04:10 PM

Here's the best logo in sports:

It's a thing of beauty.

ShovelMonkey 03-22-2004 04:13 PM

Well, the last few years a uniform change has meant a Super Bowl win. Maybe Marv has something...

Fritz 03-22-2004 04:15 PM

the Falcons and Bills have a won a bowl?

BigJohn&TheLions 03-22-2004 04:18 PM

Maybe they showed the new logo & uni to Warren Sapp as a selling feature...

HAHAHAA thats good stuff

Ksyrup 03-22-2004 04:23 PM

This was done solely to rain on the parade of the mikebrownsucks.com guy and his "Fraidy Cat" logo, I'm almost certain.

I like the new Lions unis better. The darker blue is a nicer addition.

These new Bengals jobs suck though.

What, exactly, is fast and energetic about a slab-serif, fattened "B"? Sounds like someone powerful in the organization with no design sense whatsoever really liked that "B." That's gonna move some Bengal merchandise.

Ugh....How many times must we go through this? PROPER INDENTATION! REALLY people, come ON!

:D

Cringer 03-22-2004 04:54 PM

go back to the plain orange helmets that had block lettered "bengals" on it, i have always hated the stripped look. Not that anything is a nice as the "G" my Packers have......of course i've always waited for the day to come around when they got some bloodied up guy pushing a hooked cow on thier helmet.

sabotai 03-22-2004 04:54 PM

And I think the new logo really fucking sucks.

I didn't know the Lions were going with a darker blue. It is desperately needed. I always thought they should have a darker blue like the Seahags used to have. The black outline has to go though... Why black? When are they adding purple or teal?

korme 03-22-2004 04:56 PM

How can you hate something so unique, beautiful, (not snowflakey) and pretty as the Bengal stripes?

sabotai 03-22-2004 04:57 PM

I liked the stripes on the helmet, FWIW

Let me clarify... I LIKE the Bungles stripes. The Lions added a stupid black stripe last year. Change is not always good.

Actually, they already are a darker blue. Its tough to tell when you see a picture or on TV, but when you see one in person, BIG difference. I didn't really notice until I bought one and compared it to an old one. They look a lot better.

Well, I indented by two spaces... I guess it didn't come out as well as I thought :)

Did they steal that from Bucknell college?

cthomer5000 03-22-2004 05:49 PM

Pretty lame, but the worse news is the fact that they are keeping the striped helmet.

I agree, that was the helmet I knew from childhood. Virgil Carter anyone?

GrantDawg 03-22-2004 07:09 PM

At least there is a potential the bungles will take the ugliest uniform award away from the Falcons.

As much as I hate the Packers, their logo is a true classic. Of course, I think that the nice, classic, orange C in the middle of a navy blue field is the best logo in foortball, but I'm also a bit biased.

Until the Mal-kins go back to their old red jersey and red helmet uniforms they will probably continue to hold "ugliest uniforms" in the NFL, althoughthe Giants are a close second, that battleshit grey they use for pants and the unhighlited numbers make them a nastysite indeed.

I like the "olde-timeness" of the Giants look, although I do concede their road jerseys look much nicer.

Uh uh. Uuuuuugly.

damnMikeBrown 03-22-2004 09:25 PM

I'm not going to add anything constructive to this.

That things looks stupid. It looks like something a Jr. High kid would design in his free period before lunch. It resembles a 'B', looks more like an '8', and in both cases, just doesn't bring about any idea that it's about the Bengals.

Oh, can we get a freaking CB already!?

tucker342 03-22-2004 10:33 PM

TERRIBLE logo

it might be the worst in the league

tucker342 03-22-2004 10:34 PM

dola-

That should be their logo:D

And yes, that new letter B logo is pretty gay.

korme 04-19-2004 07:11 PM

Logo doesn't look so bad with a bold around it--

No, it still sucks. Sorry.

scooper 04-20-2004 11:41 AM

I've heard it referred to as the laziest logo in the NFL. I think that's an adequate description. I'm looking forward to the new uni's on Thursday, though.

Too bad that now the logo has red streaks down it. But it is better than a block B with stripes. Come on, have they started letting the football coaches designthelogos?

Kodos 04-20-2004 01:12 PM

Yeah, I don't know why they changed it. I love it just the way it was.
