Chris Rock: Never Scared

Anyone catch Chris Rock's new standup special on HBO last night?

Overall, I thought it was above average, thanks to great jokes about Michael Jackson and rap music. But a lot of it seemed too "preachy."

I rate it 3rd in his HBO standups, with Bring the Pain first and Bigger and Blacker following that.

Thought it was great, loved the marriage stuff too...........

Can any of his work ever top Bigger and Blacker?

This was the stuff from the show I saw live a few weeks ago. It was good, but I agree not as good as the first two specials.

Missed it last night, but will catch it as soon as it's re-run (or tonight if it's available On Demand).

Bigger & Blacker is the funniest routine I've ever seen start-to-finish.

I agree, it was ok but not great.

I rank it 3rd too. Nothing could top Bring the Pain. That was revolutionary stuff. This was good though.

I though a few were funny, esp. the joke about slavery being the reason the major sports are all black now, and even how the NHL would be if the made warm ice rinks

sjshaw 04-18-2004 02:50 PM

Wasn't it interesting that he said the exact same thing that Jimmy the Greek said regarding the slavery "breeding" issue?

I thought it was great. He speaks so much truth about certain things, I always wonder how much mail he gets from the government.

I think he's one of most funniest/true speaking comedians out there. I Tivo'ed it for future laughs. :)

I watched it and thought it was all right, but I liked the first previous two HBO specials much more. At the beginning of the show, he said that it was his fourth HBO special. Obviously, "Bring the Pain" and "Bigger and Blacker" have already been mentioned. What's the other one? Did he do a "One Night Stand" for HBO or something like that? I'll try to look it up on the IMDB.

Dola

Nope, the IMDB isn't really giving me a clue.

He had a special in 1993 or 1994 called "Big Ass Jokes". I'd assume it was on HBO, although I'm not positive.

Really, Bigger and Blacker may be the best comedy special I have ever heard...

Flasch186 04-19-2004 07:14 AM

this is the funniest comedian ive ever seen in person:

I finally saw this the other day, and I felt pretty let down. It was solid, just not as good as his prior stuff. Certainly a lot more preachy on the race subject than in past specials.
