After seeing the wave of teens and pre-teens that have hit the OOTP Forums, Shorty seems like Strom Thurmond.

Exactly what is a catobase, and why would I want to use it?

LionsFan10 05-04-2004 05:42 PM

CatoBase is simply one of the best utils to be created for OOTP, it creates a ... well database for your OOTP league that goes far beyond anything in the game, a lot of the online leagues use this utility if you look.

Poli 05-04-2004 05:47 PM

Darn. I was hoping for a better roster set. :)

Neuqua 05-04-2004 05:52 PM

go take a look at www.baseballreference.com and the catobase is basically a utility to make the same thing for your own personal league.

korme 05-04-2004 06:08 PM

you can click the jbl reference through the link in my sig to see how ootp's output looks with the baseball-reference touch

Ksyrup 05-04-2004 10:08 PM

This is phenomenal. I always blew this off as an online utility, but...wow! The only thing is, it takes so long to update each season, after a couple of decades, I'm going to be simming a season in 10 minutes, and "Catobasing" the season for about 3 hours.

korme 05-04-2004 10:56 PM

it's the sacrifice you must make for greatness ksyrup, while you're waiting, bump the song quote game

kingnebwsu 05-05-2004 12:00 AM

Interesting, I always heard of this but never tried it. DL'ing it now ;)

You don't need to do the HTML after every season... just import after every season, and run the HTML part of Catobase every few seasons or whenever you like.

Ahhhhh...thanks! So, I only need to generate HTML when I want to look at it then. Makes sense. This will save me a ton of time. Thanks again!

Obvious question:

it says in the first post that I must first install 5.4.0. Where do I get that?

The same place that has the 6.0 install has the 5.4 as well.

Ahhh...Ok. Thanks!

Ben E Lou 05-05-2004 09:54 AM

This looks great. One issue: My league is in 2011. Am I correct in assuming that there's no way to recover the career stats for 2004-'10. It is only listing career stats for those generated in 2011.

Ramzavail 05-05-2004 10:18 AM

Can I get some examples of what this database outputs?

Here is one that I put together for one of my online leagues.

Here is another from a historical league that I'm in that has about 25 years of history.

You can follow Shorty's link to see one from his league.

Calis 05-05-2004 10:41 AM

Damn, from the title of this thread I figured it had something to do with the OOTP Death Leagues someone had mentioned earlier.

Ramzavail 05-05-2004 11:03 AM

Hammer - that is awesome, for a stat hound like me - this utility is immense.

Love to see Scott Costa, a part time 5'11'' 235 catcher, steal 100 bases in '92, must have a leagues with a bunch of Piazza arms.

makes me want to buy the new ootp.

Are there upgrades from ootp 4 to 6? :)

Wow, I've been using it for a year and didn't even think of that. Now I can get through seasons quicker, too!

Ksyrup 05-05-2004 03:27 PM

Ha! I was wondering whether you were holding out on me with that info, or hadn't thought of it yourself.

I just did what the instructions said to do, and was afraid to do anything else. It said to run the stat import, then generate HTML, so that's what I did every time!

Suicane75 05-25-2004 10:49 PM

So, if i import the HTML in my first year and then wait 10 years and import the HTML, what will happen to all the HTML info from years 2-9, im a bit confuddled.

korme 05-25-2004 10:51 PM

umm, you need to unlcick only import team pages from current year, cause then it wont work

Suicane75 05-25-2004 10:57 PM

Oh wait, when i generate the HTML from OOTP, does it overwrite the previous years HTML, i've been assuming it does.

korme 05-25-2004 10:59 PM

i think catobase 6 backs up the html files for each season

korme 05-25-2004 10:59 PM

no wait, you HAVE TO IMPORT each season, just not generate the html (the long part) each year

Suicane75 05-25-2004 11:02 PM

Ok, I'm 95% sure I got it now, thanks the help, I just didn't wanna move on till I was positive.

Ksyrup 05-26-2004 07:21 AM

This is working great for me, although I somehow screwed up one year - I think I forgot to import it, because everything is the same as the previous year. Other than that, I'm about 80+ years into a sim and the output is beautiful. The only problem is that it's been 30 years since I ran the html, and I'm afraid it's going to take an entire weekend to complete!
