IWS #66 Results!
Boy was this one interesting. A little mental error by my on one question kept on getting pointed out, but probably didn't have much of an effect on the final score. Presidents aparently crossed political lines. A discussion of no-hitters vs. 4 home run games might start out of this. And in the end, a legend prevails.
The scoring: 1. Which of these three news outlets is better: CNN, Fox News, or MSNBC? CNN - 26 Fox News - 9 MSNBC - 5 A very suprising result, and on the might possibly have changed if people would have went with their gut instead of the "group" thought. I stopped counting the number of people who said "I like Fox News, but I think everyone will put CNN" 2. Name a country participating in the Euro currency. England - 1 (England isn't participating in the Euro yet!) France - 27 (Forgot how big our French contengent was/is) Germany - 7 Holland - 1 Italy - 3 Spain - 1 3. What is the greater feat: no-hitter, hit for the cycle, or hit 4 HRs in a game? No-hitter - 20 Cycle - 2 4 HRs in a game - 18 This one went back and forth the whole way, and was one of the two deciding questions. I guessed, incorrectly, that a cycle would get more love. 4. Name a Republican president not named Reagan, Bush, or Nixon. Ahh, the question the was the most fun, and had some really interesting answers! Clinton - 1 (In fairness, the person who sent this had a REAL good explanation as to why the chose him) Eisenhower - 8 (I though Ike was going to make a late run, but he fell short) Ford - 14 (Strong throughout, I totally forgot about him while writing the question) George W. Bush - 1(Um, hello?) Hoover - 2 (Its a Dam shame....) JOHN F. KENNEDY!!!! - 1 (Holy crap, the daddy of modern democrats gets a vote as a Republican. I think he rolled in his grave. ****, you should be ashamed of yourself for putting this!) Lincoln - 11 (The father of the Republican party didn't get as much love as I would have thought) Reagan - 1 (Again, hello?) Washington - 1 (I figured someone would put him, and they did. No Republican party at the time though) 5. Name a major automaker other than Ford, Chevy, or Chrysler. Ah, the question I'll get hammered on the most, as I should have put GM intstead of Chevy, and Dahmler/Chrysler instead of just Chrysler. Oh Well. BMW - 2 Dodge - 5 (A division of Chrysler) Ford - 1 (....) GMC - 2 (Sorry about that) Honda - 10 Mercedes - 4 Pontiac - 1 Toyota - 14 Volkswagen - 1 It was back and forth between Toyota and Honda the whole way as well, and this turned out to be a key question. 6. What position in hockey is the best to build a franchise around? Defense - 1 Center - 7 Goalie - 32 I asked this question, well, because I didn't know. Interesting results. It boiled down to this: If you didn't put France, Goalie, or CNN, you were out of the running automatically. In hindsight, I should have put questions with more potential answers, but you live and learn. Now the final scores:
In third place: Tucker342 with 50319360! In second place: RPI-Fan with 56609280! And the winner of IWS #66, with a perfect score of 88058880 points is.... QUIKSAND! Congrats to our resident quizmaster and once again reigning I'm With Stupid champ!

Woo. Hoo.
New IWS will be up soon, probably today. |
Apparently I forgot to submit my answers, but if I had entered, I would have finished in the bottom third, as per usual.
|
And here I put MSNBC hoping everyone would just select the "neutral" option in the good vs evil debate. Whoops. close 2nds with Lincoln and Honda, I had France and goalie though.
Good set of questions, and lots of different answers. |
Yea, forgot to do this one too, shame.
|
For the very first time, I actually got 5 questions out of 6 !
The rep president killed me, as I was the one that answered Clinton...yes, I know he's not a republican but when I first read the question, I completely missed the republican part. Then I thought, hey it's likely that other people will make the same mistake as I. And since Sly Willie was the last president not named Bush or Reagon, I thought I might have a winner there... Obviously not... :( Congrats QS ! It'd been a while, hadn't it ? (like 3 or 4 maybe....a lot for you !) |
Sheesh, you forget that England hasn't joined the Euro bandwagon yet and you end up way at the bottom. One teeny little mistake...

I am the one who put JFK but damn I was close if not for this one goof...
|
Bah, France killed me. Would have had a perfect score if not for that question...
Edit: Nevermind. I also went with four homers, which is certainly the rarest of those feats... |
:( Stupid car manufacturer question.

Holland is not a country, it is the only important part of the country (guess where I live:)), but not a country.;)

Nice questions (I liked the Euro question, in particular).
Came up OH SO CLOSE this time. Maybe I'll get the next one; who knows. Look forward to seeing QS's questions. |

Though the Holland confusion is legal, even morons in the NLs think they should use it and I bet 75% of the world, if not more, only knows our country as Holland (in whatever language: Hollande, Olanda)... Even though Holland is technically a wrong name, because Holland used to be 1 of 7 states, but later on was devided into Noord-Holland (north H.) and Zuid-Holland (south H.) when the country went to 11 provinces, before some smart Dutch people created a 12th province out of the sea. Enough geography/history/Dutch langauge lessons for today (and the day just started here.). I lost, once again, despite my good answers, I've fallen back to the bottom half ranks... |
Wow. Came closer than I thought. I too, had England first, then I realized they still use Pounds. But still...CNN, France, Goalie, Toyota and No-Hitter is a pretty good rap...I really had no idea what to do with the Republican bit, and I really should have gone with Lincoln. Wouldn't have won anyways though :)

[quote=JeeberD]Bah, France killed me. [quote]
First time France would have hurt anyone ;) I was the Reagan answer : trying to stay with IWS I answered the first name of the lists like the 2 other questions. Same for the car-maker (I was the Ford answer), I would have said Toyota otherwise. |
