Well, it's Saturday morning
 

I know what that use to mean when I was growing up. CARTOONS! What every happened to the classic Saturday morning cartoons? I remember watching Heathcliff, Garfield and Friends, and of course those Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Anybody care to reminisce?

The "Heathcliff" theme song was written by Haim Saban and Shuki Levy.
Some of their other cartoon themes were for "Inspector Gadget,"
"Spider-Man," "Rainbow Brite, and "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers."

The former of course, is on the California Board of Regents.

What the hell is that about? Like, do you California people just let anyone run your schools? Oh wait, I forgot who your governor is.

Didn't watch a ton of TV when I was a kid (we lived in the desert, and our B&W TV was able to get exactly one channel).

I remember liking the Superfriends (Hall of Justice, Jan, Dana & Gleek). Captain Caveman jumps into my head for some reason, and also Rubberman. And, of course, all the Conjunction Junction / Capital Hill Schoolhouse Rock commercials.

Ah yes. Garfield and Friends. I personally got more of a hoot out of the friends part. With Orson and his pesky brother pig.

Voltron, Thundercats, Robotech, G-Force, Thundar, Space Ghost, He-Man, Gi-Joe, D&D and more is what I grew up watching, and loved them all.

There were also the ones we sat through to catch the show after, Kidd Video was one I remember sitting through to catch Dungeons and Dragons.

Saturday mornings were for the Bugs Bunny - Roadrunner Hour. 'Nuf said.

Do you realize that those growing up in the late 60s/early 70s thought that the cartoons of the 80s sucked (like those mentioned above?). Just like those pining for the 80s cartoons think that the ones now sucks. Pretty soon, some will look back on the cartoons of today with fond nostalgic memories.

I loved Saturday morning cartoons. I remember they used to have a show the week or so before the first Saturday of "new shoes" previewing all the new ones. My brother and I used to sit down with the TV guide for the first week and figure out which channel the new shows were on and what we'd watch.

Where I was Thundercats, Robotech, Transformers, He-Man, and GI-Joe were weekly shows. Either before or after school.

Saturday morning was about Super Friends, D&D, Spiderman and His Amazing Friends (the best Saturday morning cartoon IMHO), The Smurfs, and Thundar. There were certiainly others. The Wrestling Cartoon was one. So was the Pac-Man cartoon. It's basically a blur now.

I forgot about D&D, which was on when I was probably too old for cartoons, but watched anyways.

Also forgot about Popeye - I love the old Popeye cartoons (Bucc is right - the new stuff sucks). I was 7 when we moved to LA - there they had a 2-hour show every Sunday morning of nothing but Popeye (there was a host who drew pictures from doodle viewers sent in). Right after that, the CBS NFL pregame (Mussberger/Jimmy the Greek era) would start...meaning I didn't get out of the house much on Sundays in the fall.

Oh man, my mom used to wake me up at 7am every saturday for my cartoon lineup. I used to watch smurfs, he-man, gi joe, voltron, transformers, thundercats, charlie brown, garfield, the chipmunks, and I can't even remember the rest. All i know is I spent a large portion of my saturdays in front of the TV!

funny now, though, that today my son can literally watch cartoons all day and all week long on TV.
