A la carte cable

With all the news about paying for only the channels you wanna watch I was wondering what 10 channels everyone would pick if that was all you could have. Networks not included.

ESPN
Travel Channel ( World Poker Tour)
TNT
Comedy Central
FX
TBS
Fox Sports
HBO
Starz
Showtime

I could seriously do with just network TV and all the ESPN channels.

I would also spring for the NFL Network and Travel Channel if available, though my digital cable company doesn't currently have them.

How can you guys be forgetting about ESPNNEWS? Sometimes I think I'd rather watch that channel than sportscenter. Their programs are more informative.

I'm a bad father/husband. I didn't include any channels for my wife or son. I'll just buy her all the Law & Order stuff I can (it's out on DVD, right?) and buy my son all the Nickelodeon/Disney/PBS Kids stuff. Yeah, wow, that will take care of the savings on the missing channels...

atatange1 05-24-2004 09:44 PM

ESPN
ESPN 2
Fox Sports World
HBO
Comedy Central
Fox News
FX - Using this spot for one show, The Sheild.
Starz

Draft Dodger 05-24-2004 09:53 PM

ESPN
ESPN2
ESPNews
MSNBC
TechTV
Bravo (West Wing Reruns)
Noggin (for my son - he would go into massive Dora withdrawals without it)
Food Network (Good Eats)
Fox (for football in the fall, and my wife's stupid American Idol)
History (I use it to put me to sleep at night)

honest, those 10 channels probably account for 90% of our TV viewing - well, not incuding the Centre Ice Package, or Trading Spaces (TLC would be 11th).

If it's just for my TV (and I don't have to keep peace in the household)

ESPN
ESPN 2
History Channel
A&E (I'm still waiting for the 2nd season of MI-5)
FX
TNT
Speed Channel
TBS
FSN
Turner South (has quite a bit of the Thrasher games)

I really hated to drop History International, which I watch about as much as regular THC.

I would be the only person in the house who watched TV if these were the options......course that would require giving up the computer.....no chance at that!

I think I like History International more than the regular History Channel now. More of a variety of topics, and doesn't feel quite as 'dumbed-down' as the original does sometimes.

Anyways, my list:

ESPN
ESPN2
Fox Sports World
Fox
History Channel
History International
ABC
CBS
Fox Sports Detroit
TNT

I chose the networks mainly for football and college basketball coverage, also for '24' on Fox. TNT is kind of a strange choice for me in that I don't watch it regularly, but there is almost always something on that I could watch if my other stations have nothing.

God, I would pay DirecTV tons of money to drop that channel altogether so that my wife would never be able to turn on that infernal show.
