Congrats to Brighton

They won promotion to Division One last night with a 1-0 win over Bristol City. They scored on a PK in the 85th minute, following their recent form of last minute heroics!

I'm sure Marc is a happy camper right about now! I think the UK term is 'gobsmacked'. Sometimes I don't think we speak the same language. :)

Bristol City... hahahaha

3 (4?) years being the best team in the playoffs and not going up. Last year we (Cardiff) beat them 1-0 with a lucky goal and then 150 minutes of 10 man defending.

No love lost between the 2 sets of supporters though and one entire side of my family supports them. So I think it's hilarious.

After being here in the UK and Italy, I can now truly appreciate how fervent the people are about soccer (or football or calcio, depending on where you are :) ). About the closest thing we have to fan behavior is college football. The US just doesn't have the same level of fan involvement for pro sports as the Europeans have.

Now, hopefully, the promotion will allow Brighton to get their new stadium built. I guess the rumors are that if the stadium isn't built, then the team will be liquidated. Does that mean that Bristol City will get the promotion?

Grin :D

PS. If we don't get the stadium we'll be fine, financially the clubs doing ok (wsa £5m in the red before yesterday - but we'll have raised over £1m from that game plus the extra revenue from being in Div1 next season).
