Some noob questions....

I just bought FOF2004 and I'm in the process of trying to soak in all the info I've read so far on these forums and get some hands-on time with the game. Thanks to all of you who've contributed to these forums!!

Also, I've got a couple noob questions that I haven't seen answered here yet....

1) When playing my first FOF career should I focus on creating a game-plan and getting players to fit it or on getting familiar with my current team and adjusting the game-plan to suit them? I'm expecting responses from both schools of thought but figure I'll ask anyway. :)

2) Can trades be done with non-human controlled teams in MP leagues/careers?

Thanks!

I'm in the school of setting up a system, then finding the right players.

No.

You'll generally find some players on your starting team that you'll want to cut. Most likely because they are getting paid more than their worth. IMO, it's better to set up a system, and then find the players for that system, since you'll be kind of rebuilding your team anyway.

In this case aren't I screwed already since cutting them would result in cap penalties? I was under the impression it was better to just bite the bullet and keep a roster spot filled.

Yeah, you'll generally get a cap hit for the people you cut, but for a lot of people the cap hit will not end up being much and you'll end up freeing far more cap space than you'll lose through cap hits. For your most expensive contracts, though, you'll generally have to keep them, but a lot of the guys with $1 mil or $2 mil contracts don't have high signing bonuses, so it'll be a very small cap hit.

Not saying you should go and cut everyone. :) Just go through your roster and see what guys suck, but are still getting paid a lot.
