TCY - Let's Go Duke! Let's Go Duke! (Year 9)
Welcome to year 9 of my Duke Blue Devils TCY Dynasty. Feedback is always welcome.
Check out Year 8 as we made a run to the Final Four. Primary Offense: Pro Form Primary Defense: 4-3 Current Prestige: 79 Career Record: 44-49 Year 1 (2-10) Year 2 (2-9) Year 3 (3-8) Year 4 (6-5) Year 5 (5-6) Year 6 (5-6) Year 7 (9-3) Year 8 (12-2) Email Time Michigan coach Alonzo Parrish wins coach of the year?? (C'mon...the guy's won it 6 out of the 8 years now and for the last 4 years in a row. Shouldn't this team be forced to win the national championship with the talent that they have in order for him to win this award? Terrible.) Hirings Defensive Coordinator - Harris Cooley (63) I think this is the first quality defensive coordinator we've been able to hire. Player Pos Elig HT WT Current Future HonorsPritchett - If he can cut down on Int's this year...he could compete for ACC POY. Ward - Can't complain with the reigning conference plyer of the year. Had 15 rushing TD's last season. Hines - Had 20 catches out of the backfield last year and 2 TD's. Coons - Takes over for Walton. Still had 12 catches and 2 TD's last year in backup role. Avalos - The guy that opens up the offense. Has 152 career catches. Driver - Had 31 catches last year. 3rd on the team. O-Line - We finally got have an all-conference lineman in Hartman. Our line is the strongest it's ever been. Defense Code:
Player Pos Elig HT WT Current Future HonorsBaxter - Was 2nd on the team in tackles and sacks before the injury. Was headed towards All-American status. Hilton - One of three Blue Devils to earn 2nd team all-conference last season. Rayburn - No sacks but 12 TFL's. Just a solid run-stopper. McCrory - Had 59 tackles and 16 TFL's last year. Reeves - Another great run-stopper. Lacks a little in coverage but was 2nd all-ACC last year. Boyd - Solorio's a better talent but Boyd fits the WOLB mold better. Had 8 sacks last year. Donovan - Holds record for most Ints in a season (6) last year. Also returned 2 punts for TD's. Bernier - Great talent as a RS Freshman. Will makes the loss of Kadletz a lot easier. Blackburn - Our leader on defense. Only 1st Team all-ACC last year. Led team in tackles (84). Battle - Another good run-stopper. Just a RS sophmore. Special Teams Code:

Southern Mississippi (0-0) at #26 Duke (0-0) (-17) TV3 First meeting Key Injuries - None Preview - We didn't want to schedule this game...but after every big gun turned us down the computer generated this week 1 match-up for us. The Eagles don't have a wealth of talent on their squad...but they're not the worst team on the planet. They're led by their QB Derek Broome...a 3rd year starter. Last season he threw for 2085 yards with 20 TD's and 10 Ints. Plus he's not afraid to tuck the ball under and run. On the other side of the ball we really have big expectations this year. We only lost 3 starters and we return 13 all-ACC performers. Injuries aside...we fully expect to be back in the playoffs this season. Code:

Oklahoma State (0-0) at #5 Duke(1-0) (-11) TV5 Last season: Duke 45 OSU 7 Key Injuries FB Earl Hines - Torn Knee Ligament - Out seaon Preview - Our only fear this season is injuries and we've had our first of the year. Although not a huge contributor...losing Earl Hines forces us to take the red-shirt off of Randall Fruth. So we don't lose much with Fruth in there...but what we were hoping to do was red-shirt him in his senior year so we wouldn't have to start a true freshman next year. Well those plans are out the window. But we'll survive. Last year we beat up on the Cowboys and this year we expect some of the same. The Cowboys have to go with first year starter Courtney Thompson as QB and their best player is OLB Neil Copeland who is ranked 65/100 by our scout. Code:

#17 Duke (2-0) (-5) at #47 Northwestern (1-0) TV4 Last season: Duke 35 Northwestern 10 Key Injuries FB Earl Hines - Torn Knee Ligament - Out season S Alex Austin - Torn Triceps Muscle - Out season Preview - Last season the Wildcats were in this game early in the 3rd as they scored a TD to take a 10-7 lead. But then we scored the final 28 points to put the game away. But even though we have more talent now than the Cats...they still are a scrappy team...especially at home. In fact the last time these two teams played up in Evanston...the Cats won 38-35. This season the Cats come into this game at 1-0 with a week 1 victory over Wyoming 19-17. The only skilled position starter from the last team to beat us is Sr RB Jamal Minter. Despite being a four year starter in an I-Form offense he only has 1862 career yards however. Back-up S Clyde Kennedy was lost for the season in last week's game...which forces us to take another red-shirt off one of our players. This time it's talented freshman Alex Austin who steps right into the back-up role. Code:

#13 Duke (3-0) (-13) at Maryland (2-2) No TV Last season: Duke 39 Maryland 14 Key Injuries FB Earl Hines - Torn Knee Ligament - Out season S Alex Austin - Torn Triceps Muscle - Out season Preview - Last season Maryland actually had a 14-13 lead at the half before we scored 26 unanswered points in the 2nd half to win the game 39-14. This season the Terapins come into this contest at 2-2..and they're 0-1 in the conference with their loss coming at the hands of Virginia 37-7. The Power-I offense is led by RB Glen Gerbasi...a scat back who takes over the starters role after Billy Webb went down with a rib injury in the last game. So far this year Gerbasi has 229 yards rushing and two 2 TD's. We rolled through the non-conference portion of the schedule with an average score of 51-7. Ken Pritchett is the 4th best passer in the nation with a rating of186.0. He's also thrown for 11 TD's and only 1 Int. Code:

#14 Virginia (4-0) at #13 Duke (4-0) (-4) TV4 Last season: Duke 17 Virginia 14 Key Injuries FB Earl Hines - Torn Knee Ligament - Out season S Alex Austin - Torn Triceps Muscle - Out season DE Jermaine Baxter - Mononucleosis - Doubtful 8 weeks WR Matt Avalos - Concussion - Probable 3 weeks FB Randall Fruth - Concussion - Probable 3 weeks Preview - Last season we really got lucky winning a sloppy game against the Cavs as we turned the ball over 6 times yet somehow managed to win by 3. The game winning TD came on a Kadletz blocked punt where Roy Robbins scooped up the loose ball and ran it back 42 yards for a TD. That score came early in the 4th and then we held on for the final 12:03 to win the game. This year Virginia is back and ranked #14 after the first four games. They are led by 2nd year starting QB Shawn Kitchings. Kitchings has thrown for 722 yards and 7 TD's with only 1 Int. Both defenses are ranked in the top 10 nationally in numerous categories so today's game could mirror last year's low scoring affair. Code:

Not that we're complaining however since back-up Chuck Lewis leads the team in sacks with 7.5 and that's with only 1 start. This has been our best defensive unit as we have not allowed the opposition to score more than one offensive TD in any game this year. Right now we're 3rd against the run...1st against the pass and 4th in points given up at 9.0 per game. Code:

#12 Duke (6-0) (-14) at Wake Forest (2-5) No TV Last season: Duke 36 Wake Forest 14 Key Injuries FB Earl Hines - Torn Knee Ligament - Out season S Alex Austin - Torn Triceps Muscle - Out season DE Jermaine Baxter - Mononucleosis - Doubtful 7 weeks WR Matt Avalos - Sprained Knee - Doubtful 5 weeks Preview - There was a time when Wake Forest was a feared team. There was also a time when Wake Forest beat us 79-0. Well those days are long gone and the talent that was once at Wake is now somewhat depleted. And of course...we're just fine with that. Wake enters this game 2-5 on the season and the 2011 version of this team has mirrored the version that has been Wake Forest for the last 5-6 years. Great passing stats...but bad rushing and bad defense. QB Andre Richmond has thrown for a lot of yards so far (1980) and a lot of TD's (18) but also a lot of Ints (15). In fact he's thrown 40 Ints in the last 18 games going back to last year when we intercepted him 5 times. Our season keeps on rolling on. It looks like Matt Avalos isn't going to see the field today. Today's game looks to be a good time to rest him and his sprained knee. And Jermaine Baxter has made little progress as he's missed the last three games...but Chuck Lewis has done an amazing job this year as he leads the team in sacks with 10. Code:

Last season's game was a classic. In front of a sold out Doak Campbell stadium and on national TV...we won the game in double overtime to win the ACC championship in the last regular season of the year. This season both teams come in with highly touted defenses. FSU allowed 24 points to Georgia in the opening game of the season but since then...they have allowed 12 points in the last 5 games. That's given them the title of best scoring defense in the nation at 6.0 points per game. We're not chopped liver on this side of the ball either as we're ranked 5th in the nation in scoring defense allowing 9.8 points per game. Matt Avalos is questionable but will get the start in this important game. Jermaine Baxter will be a scratch once again. And we lost Russell Boyd for the season in the last game. Solorio will get the nod at WOLB. Code:

If we can get by the next 3 games then we "should" have Baxter back for the playoffs. Last week was a big win and hopefully with this week's game being played at home will help us out against a decent NC State team. They've had a so-so ACC season so far at 2-3 but they did shutout the Terps in their last game 30-0. Solorio and Lewis sustained minor injuries in the last game but should be able to go. Dawson is doubtful at 3rd WR however and will probably not see the field. Code:

Well we definitely made a statement with a dominant 37-6 win on our way to the post-season. The defense held them to 166 total yards meanwhile we racked up 369. This season the Yellowjackets are led by one of their few starters from last season WR Allen Prior. Prior had 1084 yard receiving last year and this year he's up to 717 to go along with his 48 catches. He also has 23 career TD catches. We continue to truck along despite some key injuries. We hope Kurt Dawson and Jermaine Baxter can recover at some point this season. And it looks like we'll have Avalos...Solorio and Lewis all healthy after this week's game. Code:

McCarthy did it on the ground with 113 yards and 3 TD's and in the air with 65 receiving yards and another TD. Luckily for us...he's not here this season...so now we just need to focus on shutting their surprisingly potent offense. Not that they're normally potent...but you could have fooled us last year. Really no one on the Heels roster puts the fear of god in us...but last year...with a similiar roster...they tore us up. Plus they've won they're on a two game winning streak. On the injury front...we're gonna put Baxter back in the starting lineup and Dawson will benefit greatly from the three weeks off between this game and the first round of the playoffs. We hold the tie-breaker with the Noles...so with our win last week we clinched our 3rd ACC crown in a row. Code:

Lenny Terry leads the nation in TD throws with 34. And he's thrown for 3716 yards. Actually Tennesse is the top passing team in the country and their primary offense is the I-Form. Then in the rushing dept...RB Derrick Hoover has rushed for 1700 yards on the season with 13 TD's He has 5266 rushing yards in his career. Defensively their numbers are solid...but nothing that sticks out at you. And even though they are a 3 pt favorite...looking down their schedule...the best win of their year was against Georgia who finished #34 in the nation. The other teams they played that were ranked higher (Florida and Alabama)...they lost to them. So that gives us a little hope. Defensively for us...we finished 3rd against the run and 10th against the pass in the regular season. All three players that are listed questionable or probable will be in the starting lineup this week. In other news...RB Duane Dock was caught committing a serious violation of team rules and will be suspended for the rest of the playoffs. This is a somewhat big blow. Code:

#4 Duke (12-0) vs #2 Stanford (12-0) (-3) TV1 First meeting Key Injuries LB Russell Boyd - Torn Knee Ligament - Out season FB Earl Hines - Torn Knee Ligament - Out season FB Randall Fruth - Broken Jaw - Out 6 weeks DE Jermaine Baxter - Mononucleosis - Questionable 5 weeks WR Kurt Dawson - Hip Pointer - Questionable 3 weeks LB Daniel Solorio - Bruised Ribcage - Probable 4 weeks Preview - Stanford comes into this game ranked #2 in the nation and like us...12-0. They're the 2nd team in two weeks that has the I-Form as their primary offensive formation. So as expected...their main cog is RB Sedrick Heflin. Heflin has 1500 rushing yards this year and 14 TD's. The one break we may have is that the Cardinal starting QB Cedric Resnick went down in game 6 this year with a torn tricep muscle...so it's been Ricky Pritchett's team for the final 6 games and although he doesn't have as much talent as Resnick...he's guided them to a 6-0 record as a starter. In six games he's thrown 22 TD passes and only 6 Ints. The strength of the Cardinal is their offense as they are the top scoring team in the nation at 46.4 points per game. Defensively they are a little bit better than Tennessee. On our side of the ball we had a great game from Ward last week and he will have to show up big time today as well. Pritchett will have to watch his Ints this week as the two he threw last week let the Vols back in the game and actually made it a contest. We made it through last week with no addtional injuries and our walking wounded actually healed a bit during the week. Code:
