who still plays simgolf

lately my god damned @#$%@!@ dsl has been out, so i've fired up some old games i had laying around.

i got into this game again and can't stop. i got an idea for a community project, too. whoever wants to can make a course and a golf pro, save them, and we can use all the golfers and courses to play our own pga tour type thing. we can send all our golfers to whoever hosts the tournament that week, and let our goflers play. we tally up the scores and money, and keep track throughout the "season"

i haven't really thought out the details, i just thought it would be fun to play each others courses and have it count for something

Cuckoo 06-04-2004 12:07 PM

I wanted to get this one, but I never did. Anyone know where I can pick it up cheap?

korme 06-04-2004 12:12 PM

i love simgolf

korme 06-04-2004 12:13 PM

andi wanted to get a league together simmed too like you say

kingnebwsu 06-04-2004 12:16 PM

It's $10 at Best Buy.

The_herd 06-04-2004 12:20 PM

I just stumbled across my copy yesterday and was considering installing it and giving it another shot.

The only thing I can find there is a Sim Mania pack that has it in it for $20.

Glengoyne 06-04-2004 12:34 PM

Sim Golf is the funnest Computer Golf game ever. Sid Meier is a genius.

Eaglesfan27 06-04-2004 12:41 PM

I still play it occasionally. I have not fired it up for about a year, but might today after reading this thread.

Young Drachma 06-04-2004 12:49 PM

I like the original SimGolf, because it was really well done. The new one, which I purchased recently, didn't hold me as much. It's still quite cool though.

bbor 06-04-2004 12:51 PM

Hrm...i forgot all about this game....it's collecting dust somewhere around here.i might fire it up also.

IMetTrentGreen 06-04-2004 12:55 PM

my course i currently 99/100. one freaking hole is not "variety" enough. now i have to change the whole thing to make it a dogleg

anyway lets do this. seems like enough people still play it

the two ideas i have had so far:

1. load each persons golfer into a championship course, and whoever is in charge plays a tournament 4 times. bascially, you build your golfer up the best you can and let him play himself

2. give that weeks course to everyone and let them play themselves. we'd have to use the honor system, but it would give you more control of your scores

IMetTrentGreen 06-04-2004 12:56 PM

there's a new one?

MJ4H 06-04-2004 03:47 PM

Let me dust off this old gem tonight or tomorrow. I LOVE sim golf. FWIW there is an older game called "sim golf" by maxis that is awful.

Zippo 06-04-2004 03:57 PM

I am IN!

wig 06-04-2004 04:41 PM

Blade6119 06-04-2004 05:00 PM

Well, there is the Sid Meier/Wil Wright SimGolf published within the last couple years (which I believe most people posting in this thread are referring to). It is the only game I am aware of actually called SimGolf, I think Dark Cloud has it confoused with something else.

MJ4H 06-04-2004 06:43 PM

No there is an older Sim Golf by Maxis. Trust me, I have it. It's abyssmal.

Router Help 06-04-2004 07:16 PM

Actually both games were made by Maxis. The Sid Meier one (the good one) was the one recently published through EA.

New: http://simgolf.ea.com/about/

MJ4H 06-04-2004 07:34 PM

Could have sworn I said the older one was by Maxis as well :)

Zippo 06-04-2004 07:52 PM

I only have the newer one so I am in if that's the game you guys are using.

vex 06-04-2004 10:10 PM

I have it and I know you can pick it up at Wal-Mart for $9.97. I think I'm going to play it tonight now...

IMetTrentGreen 06-05-2004 12:07 PM

i've started making my links course in ireland. its going to rock

MJ4H 06-05-2004 12:15 PM

Got 8 holes of my course in Jamaica built. I forgot how much this game rules.

wig 06-05-2004 01:09 PM

I'm going to build one in Minnesota!

wig 06-05-2004 03:50 PM

we should have a cap on player skills

korme 06-05-2004 04:14 PM

TRU

Craptacular 06-06-2004 01:18 PM

I have both the old SimGolf and new SimGolf. As MJ4H said, the old one sucked. I bought it becuase I absolutely loved the Jack Nicklaus series of games, and SimGolf was the first additional series with a course designer. It was horrible though, and I stuck with the JN series, Links, and, more recently, Tiger Woods. The Sid Meier SimGolf is cool though. I might have to fire it up again sometime soon.

wig 06-06-2004 05:53 PM

You know, this might be better served as a dynasty instead of a league.

wig 06-06-2004 05:56 PM

Once you guys get golfers or courses made, email them to me and I'll zip them all up together and make them available.

Then anyone can do their own dynasty, or get some sort of league going.

Please make sure all golfers are 480 points or lower.

IMetTrentGreen 06-06-2004 06:23 PM

league

wig 06-06-2004 07:05 PM

Either way, send me your golfers and courses. We need to gather them in one spot.

We can decide what to do with them all later. :)
