FOFC Rugby: Signup thread
Cartman got me Pro Rugby Manager 2004 on his way home from overseas, one of the better rugby games out there, and since the game comes with an editor, I figure that it'd be fun to put together a FOFC side and challenge for glory.
Now, there's 15 players on the field, plus 7 subs on the bench. Just post your name and your position. I will post what the positions are and what the average size and weight is (I have to do some conversion from metric to American standard) Usual #'s on the field: (Front Row) #1 and #3: The PROPS. The big burly guys. Their main job is to push the other team back in a scrum (which restarts a game after a foul, and after a tackle), to lift the player making the catch on a line out. Key Attributes: Strength, Will and Power Usual Height: 5'10", Weight: 240 lbs Compare to: Offensive Tackles #2: The HOOKER (Right, stop giggling): Another front line guy.. he's a combination big guy and tactician for the team. When the ball gets put into a scrum, his job is to use his feet to hook the ball back to his own side, and is usually the guy throwing the ball in on the line-out. Key Attributes: Strength, Will and Passing (with feet mostly) Usual Height: 5'9, Weight: 230 Pounds Compare to: Center Second Row: #4 and #5: The Lock Forward: These are the two powerhouses of the scrum. They generate the force the Props use to push the other team back. When the ball's thrown back in on a line-out, they are the ones who go up and get it. Key Attributes: Agility, Strength and Will Usual Height: 6'5, Weight: 245 lbs Compare to: Offensive Tackle Third Row: #6 and #7: The FLANKERS: These two players are positioned one on each side of the scrum. Their role in both attack and defense, around the scrum, and in the loose scrum, calls for mobile, well-built players with stamina and a devestating tackle Key Attributes:Acceleration, Endurance, tackling. Usual Height: 6'1", Weight: 220 Lbs Compare to: Linebacker/Running back #8 The #8 : A bit of a hybrid role, he can easily detatch himself to a scrum, which gives an important role in attack and defense. It is usually he who controls the ball when it comes out of the scrum Key Attributes: Power, Endurance, Tackling Usual Height: 6'3", Weight: 230 Pounds Compare to: Middle Linebacker The quarter-backs #9 The SCRUM-HALF forms the linchpin of any team. Often the first tackler in defence, he's behind every scrum, maul or ruck, trying to get the bal out in order to keep it alive, and maintain movement. His vision of the game influences all tactical choices. He is the defacto leader of the pack Key Attributes: Passing, Awareness Usual Height : 5'10", weight: 175 Pounds Compare to: The Quarterback #10 The FLY-HALF Is the yang to the Fly-half's yin. He stands close to the Fly half and ultimately directs the game by his choice of tactics, whether moving the ball out wide, kicking into space to generate offense, or bringing the ball forward himself. Usually the Fly-Half will attempt the drop goals and penalties (worth 3 points, a touchdown (called a try) is worth 5, and the conversion is similar to the Extra Point in Football, is worth 2 extra points). We'll need a strong fly-half to get far. Key Attributes:Awareness, Kicking, Passing Usual Height: 6 Feet, Weight: 200 pounds Compare to: The kicker but even more important The backfield: #11 and #14 The WINGS are your speed merchants. The winger must use his speed and power in both attack and defense. It attacts maximum attention because he's at the end of many tries. However, he's also sometimes the last man on defence with a chance to stop a try, so he has NO room for error. Key Attributes: Speed, Agility, Tackling Usual Height: 6 feet, Weight 200 Pounds Compare to: The Wide Receivers on offense, and the corner backs on defense #12 and #13 [b] are the Centres They are far more prominent with the modern game now.. they used to be just a waypoint to get the ball out to the wings, but now he's the hub of the attacking phases, and must have a good all-round game. Teams often use contrasting players at Centre. One who relies on Power, and the other relies on speed. Usual Attributes: Tackling, Power, Acceleration Usual Height: 6'2-6'3", Weight: 220 Pounds Compare to: Strong Safeties on defense #15 is the Full-Back If the Wings cant stop them, well, you have one last chance. The full back hangs behind play, and tries to be the last gasp tackler on defense. He also cleans up any kicks that go a bit long. On the attacking side, he can come forward and create an overlap, which can generate a lot of offense. Key Attributes: Kicking, Tackling, Awareness Usual Height: 6 feet, Weight: 200 Pounds Compare to: The Free Safety combined with the Punter |

We have 8 players so far.. the core of a good team (we'll be in England's first division, so we should be fine :))

You can be the power centre and I'll be the speed centre of that's ok, since that's what SirFozzie says teams do:) |
I'll take #14 or #7
|
I am Coffee Warlord, your godlike Fly-Half. Bow down, obey me, and we shall cover ourselves in the entrails of those we slaughter!
|

You're nothing but a bloody kicker! |
See there.. our idiot kicker went and got liquored up..

|
I played a wing in college if you need another one.
|
Quote:
Oops. That's what happens when I try to read threads at one in the morning. Since we don't seem to have any lock forwards, I'll go for #4 instead. |
Give me the other 2nd row guy : I'll play #5. After all, that's where I played most of my rugby games. Although it was a lot more exciting playing flanker.
|
Quote:
Any rugby fly-half would beat the crap out of Janikowski. Heck, Johnny Wilkinson could probably beat the crap out of a tight end... |
Quote:
I have to disagree strongly here. There are large weight differences in favor of Tight Ends. |
I hate running all over the place so just let me be the scrum. I promise they ain't moving me.
