Are you ready for some football?

Perhaps this is old news, but NCAA Football has gone gold.

I always thought games/movies/albums were released on Tuesday, is that no the case anymore (the 15th is a Thursday)?

It's not as strict with games as compared with movies/music

Dang I thought it was the 13th... Oh erll I guess I will fake sickness on the 16th and 19th :) I can't wait....

CraigSca 06-30-2004 07:46 PM

Sigh...remind me not to pre-order games and have them shipped UPS 2nd-day air. Ugh.

Karlifornia 06-30-2004 08:06 PM

Most video games don't have a hard "street date". Most have a shipping date, and stores are allowed to sell them when they get them. The exceptions are usually Madden, Halo 2, Final Fantasy, and all the other big guns.

Oh, and most games ship on Tuesdays, and are out eiher Wednesday, or, more commonly, Thursday.

So...if the game is destined to "go gold" on the 15th, would that be the day a store like amazon.com ship, or would they actually have the game a few days before?

For me, it's a case of doing 2nd-day or next-day shipping from UPS. UPS doesn't deliver on Saturdays, so if the game SHIPS on the 15th and I 2nd-day it, it won't be received until the following Monday. If it actually ships before gone gold date to coincide with release in stores, then I should be good to go doing a 2nd-day shipment. Anyone have any ideas?

Man, I sound like a 10 year old waiting for Christmas. For me, NCAA 2004 was an absolute blast and the only "must have" on the PS2. Therefore, I squeal like a schoolgirl regarding NCAA 2005 :).

The game is already gold, "going gold" is when the final version is sent off for duplication. Depending on the facilities, this happens a weekish before it ships. The ship date is the 15th for NCAA 2005.

If you want it as soon as possible just pre-order at your local EB/Gamestop/etc...

Pumpy Tudors 07-01-2004 01:49 AM

Someone should tell EA that the ship date is July 15, because http://www.easports.com/games/ncaa2005/home.jsp claims that it's July 12.

Dola

In the article about the game going gold, there's a mention that there are supposedly other college football games coming out. That's gotta be a joke, right?

Eaglesfan27 07-01-2004 09:21 AM

I just ignored that line because it seemed to me like a joke.

I just went to the brand new EB games around the corner from my house, and fell victim to one of those impulse buys I was worried about when that store opened - I just bought a pre-owned version of Shenmue 2 for the X-Box as I liked the original on my friend's dreamcast.

However, I digress, FWIW, this EB games states I'll be able to come pick up my copy of EA NCAA Football 2005 (which I just pre-ordered from this new store) on the afternoon of 7/13 :)

They also said I will be able to pick up Madden the evening of 8/9 or early morning of 8/10.

Crap, I don't even know what to do...I go out of town on the 15th. Now, Norman is a huge city as far as NCAA goes, meaning you have to go to GameStop and reserve it to have a chance at the game. Last summer I reserved it way early, then was gone when it came out and had to wait. This summer I'm bringing my Xbox so I can play it while I'm gone and maybe do a pre-dynasty, just naming the OU players or something. But, I don't know if I can get it at GameStop on the 14th, or I should just stop at a Best Buy or something on the 15th or 16th on the way to California.
