OT: Weed Eaters

If you read this The Afoci, I apologize for getting your hopes up, but this is about yardwork motor tools. ;)

Can anyone who uses one recommend a good one? (gas powered, of course)

Seems like everytime I get one, the little button thingy you hit on the ground to feed out the line cracks into ten pieces, and I am not hitting it that hard.

Anyone ever try one of those kind where you use a replaceable piece or strip instead of the wind around cord stuff?

Thanks.

I have a Troybuilt gas powered with multiple attachments. It works pretty well, and thankfully the weedeater head has the "easy spool" line, which saves time and sanity.

One word of caution...DO NOT use these weed eaters to edge! Even though they sell the edger attachments, the motor is not powerful enough to handle the force of the bevel eating into dirt and mud, and eventually you will damage it. I went through two weedeaters before a repair shop told me why they were falling apart.

I am brand new to yard work. My wife bought me an electric weed eater. It seems to work just fine. I guess the big complaint would be the cord? What other reasons should we pick gas over electric?

We got BIG yards here in Texas, sonny. There ain't always a plug nearby where we gotta weed whack...

Haha! Well, my yard does require an additional extension cord! :)

You can get gas ones for fairly cheap now (40 bucks or so) that there's really no reason to not. I bought the cheap one (Wal-Mart brand I think), and it's been perfectly fine for me. As long as you're not chopping down thick weeds, you don't need the monster ones. Cheap ones work well for edging, but I have no idea what you're doing to crack that plastic piece.

I wouldnt by a weedeater that runs the string constantly. Get one that only spins when you give it gas, its also alot easier to start since your not trying to turn the string aswell.

I think my ex would make a great weed eater. Just start a conversation with her and shove her face near the edge of the driveway.

Hey, duckman, is she any good at other things? Since she's an ex, we could shove her face near something else and let her eat that. :)

...and thanks for the replies, y'all.

She does a great job of making other people (namely me!) miserable. :D
