If ESPN gave you the power to fire...

If ESPN gave you the power to fire either Stuart Scott or Steven A. Smith which would get the boot?

spleen1015 07-12-2004 09:27 AM

I like Steven A. Smith.

Huckleberry 07-12-2004 09:29 AM

Stuart Scott. The NBA and its coverage (with the notable exception of Kenny Smith and Charles Barkley on TNT) are so atrocious that I don't even watch anymore.

scooper 07-12-2004 09:50 AM

I don't watch NBA so C-ya Boo-ya.

Radii 07-12-2004 09:52 AM

I dont' watch much NBA coverage, so bye bye Scott. But that doesn't fix the sportscenter "problem", it doesn't even come close. I imagine with a major overhaul to how the program and the network broadcast in general, I'd even like Scott again. I didn't mind him at first when he wasn't so over the top.

Hurst2112 07-12-2004 10:06 AM

I would axe smith (with pleasure)and demote scott to tennis coverage...or Nascar.

panerd 07-12-2004 10:10 AM

Did anyone see Smith on PTI a few weeks ago? It was like Kornheiser came to the amazing relavation how annoying Stephen Smith is, and how loud and annoying he himself might actually be. I can handle Kornheiser with Wilbon, but if Wilbon is on vacation forget about it. As far as that episode went... I lasted about 8 minutes and then decided that it wasn't worth possibly putting my shoe through the television set.

Draft Dodger 07-12-2004 11:03 AM

can I fire both of them?

cuervo72 07-12-2004 11:05 AM

Can we put Mike Greenberg on this list too if he keeps it up (becoming increasingly annoying on the radio, that is)??

KevinNU7 07-12-2004 11:12 AM

Damn I forgot to make this public. I wanted to see who would acutally pick both to stay!

atatange1 07-12-2004 12:11 PM

What kind of poll is this? Where, is the Sean Salisbury option?

SonyLuang 07-12-2004 12:13 PM

Stu and Steven A. Smith (Ludacris Look-a-Like) are both good enthusiastic guys for ESPN. You would have to be a fool to not want them on your team.

Wolfpack 07-12-2004 12:26 PM

Stooey, if only because he's now gotten obnoxious about his Carolina homer-ism.

I'd rather be a fool in last place then have them on MY team.

Steve A. Smith makes me feel like I get sent to the principal's office.

Noop 07-12-2004 03:32 PM

Well if they have to go then how about Kenny Main(sp?) and Trev Alberts... those two make me sick also...

Scott Van Pelt is the best of them all, however.

Kenny Mayne has become a caricature of himself too, kinda like John Madden has as well. They're all good sportscasters but need to just tone it down and make the sports the show and not themselves, but that's unfortunately not going to happen.

The one plus Kenny Mayne has is the JENGA commercial. Best thing ESPN has ever produced. :D

Sharpieman 07-12-2004 03:41 PM

Steven A. Smith is the most annoying figure on ESPN. He speaks loudly and he's usually wrong.

sabotai 07-12-2004 03:42 PM

Is it possible for someone to be worse than Scott? I think not.

Trev Alberts... nuff said...

Ksyrup 07-12-2004 03:46 PM

Who is Seven A. Smith? I think I recognize him as the gnome-looking guy who rants about basketball, but who is he, why does he have this job? I don't follow basketball, but still, I've never even heard of him.

I'd ask Stu Scott before him, just because Scott is much more visible and I'm far more likely to run into him on-screen than the other guy. And Trev Alberts sucks as well.

korme 07-12-2004 03:52 PM

Trev Alberts does suck

cthomer5000 07-12-2004 03:55 PM

Trev is pretty bad, but Steve A. Smith is far worse.

Stu still sets the bar for horribleness though.

condors 07-12-2004 05:06 PM

steven A smith is an arse, i had the pleasure of reading his newspaper column and i swear he would write things just to annoy people regardless of its true or not, makes race an issue when its not. I would make him cover hockey and i would bet my last dollar he would be doing features on every black player in the league. Perfect example was the sixers hired a coach this off season he feels he needs to point out the man is white and not enough ex black players are getting their fair chance, forget the fact they just fired a black coach and they have a black gm who hired the guy(i would love to see him try to tell Billy King to his face that he should have hired a black man). I am not saying there isn't any racism in the world but being a crybaby about an issue that isn't there just does more harm than good.

pennywisesb 07-12-2004 05:12 PM

Stuart Scott, because when he's talking, I'm more interested on where his lazy eye is looking rather than what he's saying....

pennywisesb 07-12-2004 05:14 PM

dola. Steven A. Smith is pretty annoying however, with the way he rambles on in his "I'm smarter than every other NBA commentator's" speeches. For the most part, whenever I do pay attention to what he says, he's usually wrong anyway.

duckman 07-12-2004 05:15 PM

They should all be shot!

(A little harsh?)

Rizon 07-12-2004 05:24 PM

I stopped watching ESPN because of Scott. I just couldn't bear to accidently flip the channel on there and hear him.

Although, it seems like he did me a favor. So maybe I owe him one.

Fouts 07-12-2004 06:11 PM

Sounds like they are good at their job. You are all talking about them. Nobody here talking about Van Earl Wright. Deeeep and over the wall....

SunDevil 07-12-2004 06:48 PM

I have stopped watching SportsCenter as well. With all the stupid daily Top 10 this and Top 10 that, and focusing more on the gossip and heresay and trying to CREATE news instead of just showing the highlights and talk about the games. It just seems to me that SportsCenter is trying really hard to be like CNN, when they should just stick to what they had done for 20 years before, which is focus on the games. Just my .02 cents.
