MLB All-Star Game Thoughts......

how did five (I think I counted right) Indians make the American League team?.....

SackAttack 07-13-2004 07:21 PM

The same way Adrian Beltre hit .315 with 22 HR and 56 RBI in the first half and didn't even merit a spot on the "Final Five" fan balloting for the final All-Star spot.

In other words, people are idiots.

JonInMiddleGA 07-13-2004 07:26 PM

I'd probably have more thoughts about the game if I could see it.

Not sure when it began, but it appears that Dish Network is suffering a complete outage of all local channel signals, or at least they are in this area (since I got a "we are currently working to fix reported outtages in your area" msg from the customer svc line.

TLK 07-13-2004 07:31 PM

are you kidding me? (they couldn't find anyone else to sing the National Anthem????)

Philliesfan980 07-13-2004 07:32 PM

Why everyone is in love with the American Idle winner is beyond me. That voice just isn't right.

Ryan S 07-13-2004 07:32 PM

Oh. My. God.

JeeberD 07-13-2004 07:33 PM

Easiest million bucks ever for that dude in the Taco Bell contest. He had a limp noodle for an arm and still managed to get five balls in...

MrBug708 07-13-2004 07:33 PM

Are the Expos THAT bad if Livan is representing them?

vtbub 07-13-2004 07:33 PM

A mix of Macy Gray and Denice Williams.

Ouch

Nolan Ryan must have thought that he shoulda held out for a better contract back in his days so he wouldn't be Taco Bell spots rooting for some lame guy who got 13 tries to throw a ball as a strike.

Philliesfan980 07-13-2004 07:37 PM

Is it just me, or does anyone else feel just awkward instead of inspired when they see Ali come out to events like this? It was emotional the first time (olympics), but now its just not the same.

Also.. his Son is BIG for 13. He's got middle linebacker written all over him.

vtbub 07-13-2004 07:49 PM

Nice triple by I-Rod

CraigSca 07-13-2004 07:52 PM

Who's this Roger Clemens guy? He stinks!

Maybe Randy Johnson should have started.....

Ksyrup 07-13-2004 07:53 PM

OK, I'm starting to think the joke about Piazza playing Crash Davis and tipping Clemens' pitches to the hitters as revenge is looking more and more realistic...

Man, wouldn't that be funny?

MrBug708 07-13-2004 07:57 PM

No wonder the Astros aren't in first, they all blow....

TLK 07-13-2004 07:59 PM

can they take Clemens out in the first inning?

MrBug708 07-13-2004 07:59 PM

Heh....Rocket blows....

Fouts 07-13-2004 08:01 PM

I could hit a homer in that park, what a joke.

digamma 07-13-2004 08:02 PM

Clemens just pitched for the cycle.

In the first inning.

JeeberD 07-13-2004 08:02 PM

:(

Philliesfan980 07-13-2004 08:04 PM

Thanks Clemens, if the slight chance the Phillies get to the WS, I'll have you to blame.

CraigSca 07-13-2004 08:04 PM

As an O's fan, I have to ask why Roger Clemens was doing his best Sidney Ponson impression? Was he traded to the Orioles without my knowledge?

Fouts 07-13-2004 08:09 PM

haha, check the bat.

sterlingice 07-13-2004 08:31 PM

Dear God! Kill that baseball! It's like a baseball version of Clippy from MS Office.

Beat me to it. The whole it's in Houston and the fact that he pitched on Sunday played into that decision. But Schmidt is the best in the NL right now.

Ksyrup 07-13-2004 08:41 PM

Schmidt threw 127 pitches Sunday. Doubtful he would have started anyway.

Ksyrup 07-13-2004 08:41 PM

I'm shocked that I didn't hear the name Atlee Hammaker during Clemens' stint on the mound...

kingfc22 07-13-2004 08:46 PM

Bonds doesn't even get a strike in the All-Star game. What a joke.

Tekneek 07-13-2004 08:46 PM

I guess you guys aren't having a problem with the stupid computer-generated advertisements behind home plate? On my TV it makes the pitcher's upper body look like it is computer generated as well...especially when the white Bank of America slate is up.

Not every pitcher is actually tall enough to get that affect, but it is happening for the catcher and umpire too. Money talks, screw the fans who might actually want it to look like a real baseball game and not an Xbox baseball game...

kingfc22 07-13-2004 09:16 PM

ENOUGH of the Clemens tributes. Didn't he have the whole year last season as a going away tribute?

LastWhiteSoxFanStanding 07-13-2004 09:17 PM

Do the tribute before the game. Do it after. Not during.

Wouldn't it be great if clemens just punched selig in the face right now?

JonInMiddleGA 07-13-2004 09:17 PM

The Commissioner's Historic Tribute Award (or whatever the heck he said) ?

WTF is that? The 8th such award presented? Off-hand, I don't think I've ever heard of it.

stevew 07-13-2004 09:18 PM

Clemens should pick up the plaque, hit Selig over the head with it, then rip off his Astros jersey and reveal his NWO shirt.

JeeberD 07-13-2004 09:19 PM

I need more beer...

I second that motion.

bbor 07-13-2004 09:43 PM

How were the Hip?They sang the Canadian national anthem.

JeeberD 07-13-2004 09:44 PM

There's a Canadian national anthem?

stevew 07-13-2004 09:49 PM

Im tired of the ever stretching of the Star Spangled Banner. Its getting turned into a long ass ballad.

stevew 07-13-2004 10:02 PM

How many HotDogs has Studdard had already. Im putting the Over/under at 7.

You thought it was the NHL's marketing jingle, didn't you?

It's the song they play when your marines carry our flag upside down :)

vtbub 07-13-2004 10:34 PM

A flag doing what now?

I thought we annexed you back in 1867. ;)

hukarez 07-13-2004 10:34 PM

Has anyone ever gotten injured during an All Star game?

vtbub 07-13-2004 10:36 PM

Dizzy Dean broke his foot back in the 30's and was never the same pitcher.

JeeberD 07-13-2004 10:37 PM

Didn't Hoyt Wilhelm tweak his ankle or something during an All-Star game and it make him change his pitching motion so much that he would up ruining his shoulder?

Edit: I must have been thinking about what bub just mentioned...

stevew 07-13-2004 10:37 PM

Pete rose ended roy fosse's career
