Ping: Bug

Looks like the UCLA to UTEP pipeline was just starting with Tyler Ebell. DT Ryan Teofilo from Alamogordo is also going to become a Miner. Haven't been able to find out much about the kid except that he'll be one of our bigger DTs.

Do you know anything else about the kid? Was he just getting homesick for the desert or is there another reason for his transfer?

I don't know much about him. I'd imagine it's wanting to go back home or academics at UCLA. UCLA's position of least depth, outside of QB, is DT.

Teofilo

Well this post is dead but I figured I'd go ahead and update anyways since I ran into it just by chance... Anyway, Teofilo won't be playing in 05 because his ROTC sergeants or whatever made him choose between football and his ROTC scholarship... Too bad cuz he's a good player...

As for Ebell, he left UCLA just because he wasn't getting along with the coaches over there and he kinda jumped at the oppurtunity to work with Price...

Spring Practice started Monday! I Love UTEP Football!!!

We have another Miner fan on board?!?!?!

Too bad about Teofilo, though. We could always use more depth on the DL...

Crap. There goes the neighborhood.

Gotta love those Miners... I love what Price is doing with the football program - its been a while since EP has been able to be proud of our football team. I can't wait to see what happens this season... I really hope we don't have a 2001 repeat like with Nord. We lost some good players this year, but I think we got a lot of potential with CUSA...

JeeberD 03-30-2005 03:59 PM

Trust me, Mike Price is no Gary Nord. We won't have the same sort of letdown this year we did in '01. Of course, the way some folks over on MinerDigs are talking anything short of an undefeated season will be a letdown...

MinerLuv 03-30-2005 04:05 PM

I really hope you're right. I'm won't be dissapointing to me if we're not undefeated, I just want to see some progression from last year know what I mean... I'd love to go to another bowl next year! Know anything about the two potential starting linebackers Jeremy Jones and Troy Collavo? I saw Jones get some pretty good play last year, especially on Special Teams, and that sack against ASU was beautiful - but they do got some pretty big shoes to fill, I'm just out for info on the two...

JeeberD 03-30-2005 04:13 PM

Jones has supposedly put on an extra 15 or 20 pounds and is looking really good, and I expect Collavo to have a nice season. Thomas Howard, though, is who the defense is going to revolve around. If the man can pick up the slack left from Rodriguez leaving just a bit I think we'll be fine.

The one place where I'm worried is o-line. Supposedly we're going to have a couple of redshirt freshmen starting this season...

If you haven't seen it, the Miners spring prospectus can be found here (PDF)...
