Are FOFC HT-er's elitist?

The point of this poll is NOT to start a flame war. FM, if one even has a glimmer of starting, please shut this thread/poll down. Please.

I was just thinking that today is the 2nd or 3rd time in the year+ since I've joined FOFC that I've heard "FOFC" and "elitist" in the same sentence. Personally, I've never seen myself as an elitist per se...I try to understand people's suggestions and opinions and if I disagree, well then I file it appropriately.

Part of my lack of understanding of this "elitist" is that I try to avoid the USA Conference. It's most often people asking the same questions over and over and over, or reporting their frustrations. I read it sometimes, but not too often.

Anyway. This is the poll. Do you, or have you, at any point (before or after you joined this group), think/thought that FOFC is an elitist group of HT'ers...

kingfc22 07-29-2004 06:29 PM

But of course. This is FOFC. :D

Poli 07-29-2004 06:53 PM

I answered no, but I could say yes.

No in the sense that most FOFCers haven't been there as long as the upper echelon. We're seen as a well, maybe a plague or something.

bronconick 07-29-2004 09:52 PM

F-ing Elitists.

Edit: Weeeeeeeeeee. I'm on the Junior Varsity.

He must have learned it from Ardent. Don't be surprised to see him exclaim "JeeberD!" next. :p

McSweeny 07-30-2004 06:46 AM

i always thought FOFC stood for fucking elitist

I'm surprised that it hasn't caught on more. I guess I just wasn't meant to join the ranks of FOFC Immortality with the likes of Dolamite, HM, and Happy29... :(

Raven Hawk 07-30-2004 07:58 AM

We are elitists, but not in the common term of the word. We're elitists in the same way that people from Blackburn are Rovers . . .

Just because we are 'Elitists' doesn't mean that we act like elitists. Just like people from Blackburn don't rove around at random.

saintjo 07-30-2004 08:52 AM

i dont think we are elitists, i just think we are better than everyone else ;)

bronconick 07-30-2004 12:27 PM

I profusely apologize for my newbieishness.

And I *do* blame Ardent.

Don't we all?

I wouldn't really say you guys are elitist, but you're definitely cliquey. But that's not exactly surprising.

Poli 07-30-2004 02:32 PM

Heck, I blame myself. That's nothing new. :)

Hobbes- 07-30-2004 06:41 PM

people are so stupid.. i think it's stupid that people would say FOFC is elitest.. whatever

The_herd 07-30-2004 06:57 PM

How can FOFC be considered Elitist when we have Ardent posting in the guestbook of every team in the U.S.?

What he said ^^^^

arahe 07-31-2004 01:01 AM

If we are considered Elite, then I think we should just grin and deal with it...

Can anyone argue against this point? :D

Maltby 07-31-2004 07:08 PM

Better yet, does anyone WANT to argue against that point? :D

Maltby 07-31-2004 07:10 PM

But on a more serious note, if being a collection of people who are having fun with Hattrick, and helping each other out while doing it is considered elitist, then I for one am very proud of being an elitist. Besides, maybe they're all just scared that more than a few of us went with puke green socks for a week or so :D

bronconick 07-31-2004 10:15 PM

I'm still wearing Puke Green socks. Haven't lost yet.

*sidebar* This is my first big post as i usually don't post much. Just a quiet observer for the most part. *end sidebar*

In my opinion, we have just formed a group that has learned to help each other out.
We teach each other and learn from each other. I believe that we have "what is best for the ht world" in our minds. I seems that some people are only looking out for themselves when the FOFC looks out for the FOFC and the ht community as a whole. We are just combining our experiences to help each other out.

Well, enough of my views. I'll got back to my corner and observe.

Other people start perceiving that as elitist when some FOFC inside things/joke (Dola, for instance) make their way to the HT conferences. People then see it as a group excluding them (whether that's true or not has nothing to do with their perceptions), or as something like "it's an FOFC thing, you wouldn't understand."

Having a lot of the teams being above average for the most part (succeeding in V, surviving in IV, or better) doesn't help either. That's probably not all of what there is to it, but that is definitely how some people are forming their perceptions.

I have a psych degree, so I know a bit about this stuff. But it's from a state school, so I probably don't know as much as I think I do. ;)

damnMikeBrown 07-31-2004 11:46 PM

This question is beneath me. . .

For the most part though, our background. . .most of us have an interest in, if not competency in statistical analysis. We are min/maxers for the most part, seeking to tweak everything we can out of the engine. Most of us came here through fof sims, ootp, or the like, in which the numbers were our grail. I can see where some people may not like that, or appreciate it.

Havok 08-01-2004 03:30 AM

just wait about 2-3 more seasons when FOFC members are all over div III. Its gonna be great :)

As long as that doesn't include the Airborne Penguins it will be great.

Oh yeah, ardent, we're still wearing the socks you sent us too. :)

Maltby 08-01-2004 09:44 AM

I changed my team's socks back..and we've magically begun winning...we were losing before we wore them, and during..I think they took the stench of losing away from us when we threw them out...sorry ardent :D

Poli 08-01-2004 10:10 AM

Everyone hates sometime. It's just your turn. :)

Desnudo 08-01-2004 10:15 AM

In general, no.

TonyR 08-01-2004 09:26 PM

I'm just waiting for AE to post "We are the FOFC. Resistance is futile." in everyone's message board.

Uh, yeah, that must be it *whistles inconspicuously from his Div IV corner where he will be for at least 3 seasons*

I would love to see the reaction to that.

Matt2You 08-02-2004 03:48 AM

Sounds bloody brilliant to me LOL! And ya' know, I can hardly wait for III !! :)

I voted no. Fuck, we can be elitistish at times(?) but we don't exclude people--Noone here asked me what I was doing joining FOFC. So that excludes us as actually being elitists....

Poli 08-02-2004 04:42 AM

Um, what are you doing here? :)

You know it's the AE thing to do.

Poli 08-03-2004 05:16 AM

I only regret that I have but one life to give for my federation. Or something.

Airhog 08-03-2004 01:51 PM

I never have read the USA Conference much, so I have no clue. But I think AE's grand campaign to post a note in every hattrick Guestbook is a great thing. I only wish I had a job were I could spend hours every day goofing off :D

Poli 08-03-2004 04:27 PM

Me too. :)
