Mine would be Papa John's.

Ugh. No contest. Chain pizzas are definitely second class IMHO.

There is a local place in Jax called Mikey's Pizza and Italian Restaurant, for a change of pace.

As far as chain pizza joints go, I'd defnitely go with Papa John's. They have dipping sauce and they give you jalepenos.

Pepperoncinis, not jalepenos.

In Oklahoma City, we were Hideaway patrons. Since moving to Burke, VA we found this cheap little place with great pizza called Mr. Pepperoni.

Dumb name, but damn good pizza.

Domino's stock is already down 3 points based on this poll. ;)

I voted for other, specifially a place called Fortel's here in the STL area. Of the chains, I would've voted for Pizza Hut, but they are minor league by comparison.

So true...except how could you put Gino's East down? Giordano's hands down. Never been to Nancy's though, I'll have to give it a try next time I'm there.

Considering that Papa John's, Pizza Hut, and Domino's all have horrible pizza, perhaps this poll should have been asking who has the worst pizza. Even among chain pizza places, these three are the bottom of the barrel, far behind Round Table in quality.

I agree that Round Table is the king of the Chain Pizza, but these are not bottom drawer. Little Caesar's holds that reign without any serious Challenge.

I just discovered a place called Guiseppe's(sp?) in Pismo CA. It is about a two hour drive, but well worth the occasional gettaway with the wife.

As for the Chicago Pizza joints, I have always liked Chicago style pizza, but I love the thin stuff. When I used to travel back east I came to the conclusion that somehow when we crossed the Mississippi river heading west the technology required to make really good Pizza and Sandwiches was lost.

I forgot about Little Caesar's, and we actually had one here for a while.

There are some small. local chains that have some very good pizza in this area - Woodstock's, Mary's Pizza Shack, Steve's Place.

There's a Greek restaurant here called the Symposium that makes some excellent pizza with feta cheese.

Never heard of Pizza Pro. I guess we're lucky not to have them around here.

The absolute worst pizza I ever had was at a place called Pizzaland in London. It tasted like low-grade frozen pizza, they didn't even bother to cut it into slices, and worst of all, they didn't even serve any good English beer at the place.

The Italian Pie, Salvio's, and Amante's all have excellent pizza around here. My local Papa John's might be okay if they'd actually PUT SOME STINKIN' TOPPINGS ON THE PIZZA! I mean, sheesh, I get like 6 mushroom slices on the whole pizza. At least their tomato sauce has less acid than Pizza Hut so it doesn't dissolve my whole stomach in two slices, but there's nothing really on there.

Domino's wasn't even good enough to get our pizza in college. That honor went to Gumby's.

Yep, go to Hideaway quite a bit, been going since I was in college in Stillwater. I'm not a huge fan of the chains although I still eat them on occasion. I like a place called Garden Pizza, local joint. It is really Greek food, but they use pizza as their core product to bring people in. It's really good, and they have great calizone too. I also like Pizza Shuttle in Norman for some cheap, greasy pizza. :)

BUT, they do have great pizza. I remember 5-6 years ago when I would have to deliver loads to a place not far from the downtown area, although I guess still considered a "suburb" to the locals. Anyways, this place was usually an overnight wait, and the guard was a college guy about my age then and we were bullshittin and he ended up tellng me of a great place that would deliver there, and even got on the phone and ordered it for me.

No, I don't remember the name of the place, just know it was damn great pizza unlike I have ever had. And I am sure it was not even the "top level" of Chicago pizza places......

I have found the best pizza ever and it is here in Washington. Papa Murphy's. They put it together right in front of you, wrap it up, and then you take it home and bake it yourself. It is possibly the best thing I have ever tasted.

I wish we had a good pizza place around here. The best we have is USA pizza (formerly Atens Pizza) that has the best Greek Pizza. Besides them, even the independent places around here stink.

side note: There is a Mellow Mushroom in Conyers and many people love them, but I have yet to get a good pizza from there.

I like this little chain place called Simple Simon's here in Perry. I used to worked there right out of high school. Very good pizza.

Ditto. One of my best friends in college was a St. Louis Imo's fan. If I had to eat another piece of the pizza-flavored cardboard it would be too soon.

Here in KC, I'd put my money on Waldo Pizza. Pretty good stuff. There is a small chain called The Dish that makes a pretty mean stuffed pan pie.

For chains, I can't believe there is no love for Pizza Inn. I go through withdrawal not having a Pizza Inn in Kansas City. Their thin crust pie is the only thin crust pizza I will eat. The pepperoni is always crispy and you get just the right mix of crust, sauce, cheese and toppings. When I go down to Springfield, I usually order a couple of pizzas to take home.

I am a big fan of deep dish pizza. I was just in Chicago last weekend and have to echo the sentiments for Giordano's, that was excellent. A similar place in Detroit is Pizza Papalis. Great deep dish, tastes just like a lot of the ones you could get in Chicago. I also am a big fan of Jet's Pizza, a chain located mainly in Michigan I believe. If I have to get a pie from one of the national chains, it would usually be from Pizza Hut. But I try and avoid that if possible.

Guiseppe's is so good Glengoyne. I live like 15 minutes south of Pismo and love going there when I have the extra cash (since it can be on the expensive side).

In Champaign, IL, you have to go to Papa Dell's, a slice of heaven.

I can mention one bad thing about Gino's East, my ex-girlfriend psycho wench from hell worked there.

If i want to eat a pizza at home.. generally speaking i go with papa johns.. if i am going out to eat a pizza.. there is this place in kc Called the dish.. its quite good

Glad to hear that, as there is a Pizza Inn opening about 2 miles from my house. I haven't ate at one in 10 years (and it was just average back then). Maybe they have gotten real good in that time.

I tried one of the Imo's pies when I was in STL in May, I'd like to try a better place in October! :D

Whoops. I didn't see the other choice and voted Pizza Hut because I like it the best of the three chains listed. Haven't ordered from any of them in years though... I don't think Papa Johns or Pizza Hut even deliver to my apartment. There are just so many much better small pizza places here in Chicago that I can't believe anyone would order from any of these places based on quality.

For those in the NW, if you ever want great pizza cheap and you are driving through the Marysville/Tulalip area, look up either Seven Lakes or Cristiano's. Seven Lakes is great, but more of a "to-go" place, where is Cristiano's is an hour wait on a Friday night for a table, but well worth it, great pies and salads at rock bottom prices... Huge Salad (Your choice of Garden, Chicken/Shrimp/Classic Caesar, or one other) and any personal size pie you want, and its like 6.50 or 7 bucks... Both are meals on their own, and I'm not a little guy (6'2" 220 lbs)... Stop on in..

I put Imo's down just because it's a St. Louis thing. Go to Pantera's when you get back here in October. Better yet, call me when you get here and I'll take you.

If you're close to Pismo, then you've gotta be close to either Santa Barbara or San Luis Obispo. And in that case, I'd say you gotta try Woodstock's. I worked there for 3 years without getting sick of the pizza...to this day, it's still my favorite kind of pizza.

And Josh, shame on you for not pimping Woodstocks. Where's the loyalty? ;)

There is definately better pizza joints out there over chain restaraunts (You would at least hope so!)

But as far as chain pizza - Domino's is #1. For morning breakfast the day after....Pizza Hut wins that prize. I was a lame bachelor once, I remember.... :)

Mack & Mancos on the Ocean City boardwalk. Of the three listed, Pizza Hut would be my pick.

I think that the last time this topic came up, I tried the Woodstock's here in Davis on your recommendation, and I agree with you. I really like the way crust is folded over, so that the sauce is baked into it.
