Thomas Brown

Ben E Lou 08-10-2004 07:12 AM

The *very* bad news is that Thomas may get more playing time than expected this fall. The buzz I'm hearing is that it is expected that today's MRI will confirm that Lumpkin has a torn ACL.

Alf 08-10-2004 07:31 AM

Is it E.G. "the Great" Lumpkin ?

Noop 08-10-2004 07:35 AM

You get hard from a football picture? Wow. Atleast Thomas can strut his stuff this season....

Balldog 08-10-2004 07:35 AM

I think its Kregg.

Ben E Lou 08-10-2004 08:12 AM

Yes, Kregg.

Noop, just kidding. It is a reference to a comment that was made about Thomas during his Junior year. Some old dude in the stands said, "Dat boy run so good, it make your DICK hard!"

More buzz about Lumpkin's knee has come this way, none of it positive. :(

Ben E Lou 08-10-2004 09:02 AM

Wow. I've never see the Dawg football message boards this full when it wasn't the first Wednesday in February.

JonInMiddleGA 08-10-2004 09:08 AM

Somebody should hire Odell a full-time bodyguard, complete with Tazer, and zap his ass everytime he gets within 10 miles of Monticello.

LOL. That's the truth. :p

primelord 08-10-2004 09:33 AM

Ben,

Has Thomas completed recovered from his leg injury?

Absolutely. He was dang near cleared to play in the Dome back in mid-December. He ran track this spring, and his times were a little faster than his Junior year.

KWhit 08-10-2004 10:23 AM

Have you guys heard what team rule Odell broke?

The ever-popular "Unspecified" AFAIK.

{As you might expect, there's no shortage of rumors here in his hometown however. Short of getting into all of that, let's just say that the overwhelming consensus is that is wasn't a matter of "if", it was a matter of "when". This kid just seems hell bent & determined to undermine his own success at every opportunity}

NO!

Ben E Lou 08-10-2004 10:42 AM

Unconfirmed rumor, claimed to be from a source in Butts-Mehre, that it is a torn ACL and that he is out for the season.

On another note, according to the figures posted for the players' max bench and squat, Thomas is pound-for-pound THE strongest player on the Georgia team. His bench max is up to 390, his squat max is 520, and his power clean max at 291. Several of Georgia's linemen, and most of their LB's/TE's, have numbers posted lower than his.

Ben E Lou 08-10-2004 11:01 AM

Dola:

In a revelation that comes as no surprise to those of us who live in Tucker, the LOWEST pound-for-pound numbers for anyone on the team came from Darius Swain. :(

Talk about feeling conflicted. The *very* small part of me that hoped against hope that Darius would somehow miraculously pull himself together and develop a work ethic under the discipline of a college program was happy for him. However, the Dawg fan in me wanted to go over to a UGA scout at practice and scream, "DON'T WASTE A SCHOLARSHIP ON HIM!!! HE'S THE LAZIEST KID I'VE EVER SEEN ON A VARSITY FOOTBALL TEAM!!!"

Ben E Lou 08-10-2004 11:12 AM

Still nothing official, but this quote from Lumpkin's mother sure doesn't sound good for this season:
Quote:

"Naturally he is shocked and and little down," said his mother Natalie Tuesday, "but coach Ron (Courson) had a talk to him last night about Boss Bailey and he is doing great now."
The fact that the coaches are already invoking Boss's memory isn't exactly encouraging. :(

Ben E Lou 08-10-2004 11:48 AM

UPDATE:

Talk radio in Atlanta and Athens are both saying torn ACL.

Ben E Lou 08-10-2004 02:58 PM

Been out of the office for a good while. Any official news out yet?

The only thing official is that P.J. Daniels is the best college running back in the state of Georgia.:D

Celeval 08-10-2004 03:26 PM

That really wasn't a change. :)

Oh come on...other than the FSU game, he didn't fare too impressively against solid defenses.

Let them have the only thing they can cling to. :)

Coffee Warlord 08-10-2004 03:41 PM

Wait just a minute.

I think SkyDog said we can post porn here!

(Oh, how far I've fallen since returning to single-ness)

He was solid against tough competition, though not spectacular. He ran for more than 60 yards against everyone after the FSU game except Clemson and Georgia. The Clemson game was out of hand by the end of the first quarter and Tech threw the ball most of the game. He was dinged up going into the UGA game and didn't start. He only ended up with 10 carries.

According to almost all accounts, he's had a spectacular off-season. If GT is to win more than 5 games this year, he has to be the workhorse of the offense and he better be the best running back in the state.

That said, of course I'll always follow #20 very closely.;)

We can cling to the "other", and (currently) healthy, Stephenson high school graduate.

Reggie! Reggie! Reggie!

Apparently you'll be following #20 a little earlier than most of us thought. Just got back from Tucker practice. Three of us got phone calls saying that the news is now official--torn ACL. I also had heard it about three hours ago from a somewhat-reliable source, but didn't want to say anything yet. Going to check UGA official sources right now.

Ben E Lou 08-10-2004 05:08 PM

Yup. Confirmed by Kregg's father to Rivals' UGA affiliate. The story is about to come out on Rivals in a few minutes.

Ben E Lou 08-10-2004 05:19 PM

Not surprisingly, there were some seriously mixed emotions on the sidelines at Tucker practice today. Most of the dads that hang out there are UGA fans, and all are big TB fans.

GrantDawg 08-10-2004 06:27 PM

TB is not even mentioned in the race for job on the AJC. I'm not worried to much about this, though. Cooper, Milton, Ware, Brown....any of them would be a solid starter. The line is going to make the difference. Moving Max to the interior line means whoever's running should get a big hole to run through.

The message board on that UGA rivals site has to be the biggest collection of, shall we say, nimrods, the internet has ever brought together. Wow.

Yup. "The Dawgvent" is famous.

Ben E Lou 08-10-2004 07:53 PM

The public board is absolutely awful. The subscribers' section seems to be a good information source, and has some knowledgeable fans.

You know, that is probably true of most college football boards.

Makes sense. I was already a Rivals subscriber before I started checking out the boards, so I went straight to the Premium stuff without noticing the public board. It took me about three minutes of looking at it one day to know that I'd never go back there again. :p

JonInMiddleGA 08-10-2004 08:52 PM

Speaking of Rivals & boards & such ... Have you seen the Georgia Sports Monthly magazine? And if so, is it worth a darn? (With their current special, I'm figuring 10 issues for 6 bucks, how bad can it be?)

Atlanta Sports Radio this morning:

[start radio]
Host: We need a diehard Tennessee fan, a diehard Florida fan, and a diehard Tech fan on the phones, for about thirty seconds each.
[minute passes]
Host: Okay, same question to each of you, and be completely honest. What was your first reaction when you heard about Kregg Lumpkin being done for the year?

Tech fan: Jumped for joy.
Tennessee fan: Georgia fans didn't cry when Jamal Lewis went down, so I'm not going to feel bad for them.
Florida fan: Now Georgia has an excuse when they get whipped by the Gators again.
[end radio]

I feel bad for the guy personally, but... damn, I love the start of college football season.

That describes OUFans.com to a "T".
