defending trainee purchase questions
 

last night, i decided to finally get a trainee with a solid secondary...

TSI = 1 230 , 17 years, passable form
Has disastrous experience and inadequate leadership abilities

Stamina: inadequate Keeper: disastrous
Playmaking: weak Passing: solid
Winger: wretched Defending: passable
Scoring: poor Set Pieces: poor

since i tend to ramble and a bit scatter brained, im going to number my questions. i guess these questions are relevant to other training types, but i know the most about the defending market.

1. i paid around 214k USD. i think that seems pretty much on track for this guy, right?

2. is it really worth purchasing defense trainees with any secondaries when you plan to sell them at outstanding/brilliant/or higher? i would imagine the market for these guys is pretty slim. and that if someone is willing to drop 2-4 million on a defender when there are a limited amount on the market, would they really pay any higher for him? for instance, if there is only 1 titanic defender on the market, there is no competition from other players to drive up the market value.

3. if its true that i probably wont see any "extra" money from having solid passing at a high level, should i consider only purchasing secondaries that will benefit me directly while they are being trained at a lower level on my team?

4. does anyone have any experience with wingbacks having solid or higher winger skill, and how much does it really help your wing attack ratings?

I can only speak to the first question.

Yeah, it seems like a decent amount. I don't think you got a bargain, but you didn't overpay. Honestly, amortize the expense over the next 4 seasons...even if you were over paying (and you didn't), it would matter very little.

Significantly if played offensively (4-5 sublevels) ; only a little if played normal (1-2 sublevels), or so it goes with my excellent/formid wingback.

Passing is directly related to CA. So for the lower levels I think inad.- solid is good for a defender if you CA. The thing is, I do not believe that many higher level teams use CA so at brilliant and above passing skill becomes moot. However defender's passing does improve attack. So you have that working for you. I don't know if that helps at all, but I did confuse myself a little. When I'm looking for defender trainees, I look for inad. passing/ solid defending/ powerful. That is just me.

Been a while since I read the rules...so I'm going on a small limb here. . .

Defenders passing does not aid attack. It can aid strategies such as AOW/AIM/CA, but has no effect on either wing or central attack ratings.

i agree with dmb on this one. the only think defenders passing does is help tactics and mainly CA.
since they keep bumping up the strength of CA and lessing the importance of midfield, i bet more high division teams start incorporating it into occasional game play.

I stand corrected, I guess that excellent passing WB I bought for 1mil is a waste! :mad: I don't really own one, but I probably would have if not for this thread. All this info is in the rules huh? I should read through them again. So defender's passing ability only aids in CA. Then yes I would say it is pointless to look for secondaries in defenders. There is this: Unpredictable can use their passing skill to create unexpected long passes and their scoring skill to intercept the ball or generally be unpredictable in a way that creates a chance.

Read through dMB's post and the rules again: defenders passing help with CA AND with both AoW and AiM. AoW and AiM is based on EVERYBODY's passing skill, therefore defenders' passing help there. Yes, they are ONLY useful for tactics but tactics can make a one to two games difference per season if used properly, in my opinion.
