CM4 Contracts Question
 

I play as York City in CM4 and have my boys up to the 2nd Division. All last season and this offseason, I've tried to resign about 5 of my players and they won't sign. They all "feel the basic wage is unacceptable" even though I'm agreeing to their initial offer every time! Does anyone know what I have to do to sign these guys? 3 of them played all last season with an unprotected contract and one of them is my Captain!

It might be that they don't want to be tied into the contract long-term (especially if they're very good players and you are at a small club) ... try giving them a 'minimum release fee' that isn't too high and see if that helps.

PS. Yes the text indicating why they didn't accept isn't good enough in that version - we've improved this somewhat in CM03-04 (and again in FM).

I've always wondered what a minimum release fee was. So basically if the player has a minimum release fee of $300,000 and his value tops that during the next season, he will automatically be released during the season?

no samifan. What it means is that if some club offers you an amount equal to or more than his minimum release fee then you automatically have to accept it and it's up to the player whether or not he leaves.

Basically, if the player has a minumum release fee of $300,000, if someone makes an offer of $300,000 for that player, you have to accept it.

Oh alright, thanks guys. I like soccer a lot, but baseball and hockey will always be my first loves. There are just parts of the beautiful game that I don't understand (although now one fewer part). ;)

That's why a lot of times when you are negotiating a new contract, most players will include a Min Fee Release clause. Most of the time I try to get rid of this if I can, but if that isn't possible, I try to jack it up until I feel comfortable that the guy won't be leaving for a little while. I think it's just a means of giving the player a little more control over their contract and who they play for. If they play well and develop, they have a chance of getting out of their contract early and playing for a better team (and getting paid more by that better team).
