Best conference?
After watching the LSU/Auburn and UT/UF games yesteday, I was curious to see if the majority of people thought the SEC was the best conference in college football. What do you think competes with SEC in terms of quality teams (UGA, LSU, AU, UT, UF, ARK, ALA)?
Disclaimer, I'm not an SEC fan...I went to Rutgers and the Big East is pretty sad in football. |
SEC is tops this year.

This is a live grenade. Who will drop on it?

Vexroid did!

I think the problem with the SEC is there are 4 teams who are just atrocious. Mississippi State, Mississippi, Kentucky, and Vandy are just horrible this year. In comparison, there's probably only Duke in the ACC who has no shot at being in the top 4 in the conference. Is one better than the other?
I think the SEC has the the better teams at the top, but the ACC is better top to bottom. I think its pretty hard to say which is better to have. And no, I'm not mentioning other conferences mainly becuase I don't watch them nearly as close. |
Well, the Big 12 sucks, I'll help you with that right now.

I think that is pretty good arguement. I really don't even know how superior the SEC is at the top compared to the ACC. Maybe a step, but not a big one. |
Sun Belt!!!

Big East

You guys have it all wrong. The Mountain West rules all.

damn, i was going to go with the WAC! |
Top to bottom the ACC is best. Big 12 (outside of Oklahoma) looks really bad so far. Same for the Pac-10 and Big 10. I think the Big East could give the Big 10 a run this year. The SEC is a very, very close 2nd to the ACC.

Easy, fool... Actually, the WAC is having a very good year so far. Boise and Fresno have been smoking teams (though my Miners gave them a fight on Saturday)... |

I completely agree with this argument. Those top 4 SEC teams are all in the top 15. |
This is really an unwinnable argument.
That said, I'm curious what SEC fans think of the fact that Oregon State was a decent placekicker away from beating LSU at Baton Rouge? Oregon State is OK, but they got demolished by Boise State. Then again, Boise State is better than most people probably realize. I'm not trying to argue the Pac-10 is the top conference - I'm not sure which conference is at this point - but I think you have to be pretty impressed with USC and Cal, and ASU is looking pretty good after their win over Iowa. Arizona is improved under Stoops and Stanford looks better. UCLA needs to find a defense, but that's a dangerous team with a lot of offensive weapons. Washington is in a down cycle, but they may yet prove to be a decent team. WSU is still a decent team. Oregon was over rated entering the season, but they'll be decent. Once again it looks like a season where 1-2 teams in the Pac-10 are great to very good and a lot of mediocre teams in the middle, any of which could nab a bowl bid. |
Top to bottom best conference is still the Big Ten, bitches.
|
I think the SEC has the best group of upper echelon teams, the ACC is the deepest, the Big-10 is just a shade below them both and it's basically the Big 1+11 this season.
But it's early. |

Not even if you don't include the 6 crappy teams. |
Let's get one thing straight. The Big XII sucks ass this year, but it's still better than the Big 10.
|
Pac-10, baby...
|
1. ACC
2. SEC 3. Big 12 4. Big 10 5. Who cares |
