The Boss would never let me though

I'm not really much of a car person, but that's an awesome vehicle. Always had a soft spot in my heart for Mustangs for two reasons. First, my next door neighbor when I was a kid had a '65 Mustang. I think he still has it. A great car. Second, the V-8 Interceptor (Mad Max's car) was a mustang. I love that car.

Pretty sweet. I'm not a fan of the headlights in the front, and the spolier, I don't know, kinda looks weird with the sweet style of the car.

How much are they retailing for? One thing I noticed with owners of this car now they think they are all that or something.

HornedFrog Purple 09-29-2004 11:57 AM

You can get the loaded 300hp V-8 for under $25k from what I hear.

I like the retro look of it and they have done the same with the interior also.

BigJohn&TheLions 09-29-2004 12:00 PM

I like it. I have always had a thing for Firebirds (had a '69 droptop) but this is sweet. If ford ever puts together a Mustang hybrid like the Escape SUV they have coming out... But it is unlikely that at 6-2, 270 I could ever fit into a Mustang.

vex 09-29-2004 12:52 PM

Wow, I like that a lot.

GrantDawg 09-29-2004 12:53 PM

Always wanted one, will never have one. :(

SirFozzie 09-29-2004 12:55 PM

Dang.. was hoping you were talking about the Mustang Ranch ;)

Agree. Only good company really is the Caddy, and I only like the CTS and Escalade. The Viper sucks and is way overpriced, and the Vet is alright.

Jeeber, your a Porsche-fan aren't ya? What do you think of the new Boxster and 911 models?

we don't agree on hockey teams, but I'm with you on this one. I've NEVER been a car person (I drive a freaking minivan for crying out loud). and if I was to win a million dollars tomorrow, "new car" would be way, way down on the list of things to buy.

but yeah, I wouldn't mind having a nice Mustang someday.

SirFozzie 09-29-2004 07:27 PM

A Car is to get you from point A to point B. You do not get style points for looking cool. A car should be functional more then anything

Mad Max's car was actually a 1973 Ford Falcon XBGT. In the first 2 movies at least. hxxp://www.supercars.net/garages/ChevyRocks/24v2.html

I agree its a cool car.

bah... I have had 4 cars in my lifetime, the first was a Pacer... now think of the Pacer and see if you can say the above quote out loud with a straight face :p

I put 130k miles on it. Not bad for $350.

Not sure what your point is. A car means alot of things to other people. Sure, its the means of transportation, but many people (mostly guys) have a deeper passion for cars then that. I am one of them.

bryce 09-29-2004 09:25 PM

I love the new Mustang... Thanks to some highway construction debris in the middle lane of an interstate at 10pm one night last February, I actually totaled my old car (Mustang's little sister, the Cougar), and ended up buying a new '04 mustang... Insurance came through with roughly 10 grand for the four-year old Cougar that was totally paid off, so I took all of that and plopped it down on the Mustang, the result being a new car for $140/month. But I do wish that accident had happened slightly later, though, so I could nab one of these '05's, especially since the '04's won't retain as much value now, so the theory goes, since the body style has now changed... But, yea, I love the retro look.

edited for typo...

MizzouRah 09-29-2004 11:04 PM

I agree, the new Mustang looks sharp.

I also love the upcoming Dodge Charger:

Not bad, whats the price range on that baby? Also, whats under the hood on it.

sterlingice 09-29-2004 11:46 PM

That Dodge Charger looks interesting: half 70s car, half 00s car.

That said, I guess I'll have to disagree with the rest who have posted here. I think that new Mustang looks generic and blah. It looks much more like a beamer than a muscle car.

And I didn't hear they redesigned the 911. That's my dream car. Hopefully it doesn't look ugly as sin now. I'll have to go check it out.

Off on a little tangent. I think, for the most part, cars from the 90s looked nice. Slick, smooth, lots of curves. They looked both stylish and aerodynamic. But in the last couple years, there's been a movement to, uh, how should I put this "uglify" cars. Interrupt the smoothness with something that looks out of place, like syncopation in music where it doesn't belong. (On another tangent: This reminds me a lot of tennis shoes of the 90s- toward the end of my high school until a couple of years ago, things just had to get gaudier and gaudier and it was impossible for me to find size 13s, which pretty much relegates me to basketball or crosstrainers, that didn't look flat out ugly if I wanted more than just straight up "white shoe" or "black shoe")

Troll 09-29-2004 11:53 PM

I got an 01 Mustang GT and I wouldn't trade it straight up for a 05 Mustang. I got my car for the looks and performance and have several custom things on it. I feel the new Mustang looks alot like a family car, instead of the sports car I'm used to. I don't see that car keeping the young demographic they are cashing in on right now.

I don't even know if this pic is the actual "Charger", most of it has been rumored.

I'm thinking a Hemi engine, but I don't see alot of information on it yet.

I really wanted a mustang back in my mid 20's, but never took the plunge because i didn't think it warranted spending $30000. By the time my old mazda died, my practical side took over and I bought a civic. Someday I'll have one when my mid-life crisis hits, but in the meantime this is what i drool over: The Shelby retro GT500E which starts at $80000

Gah! I've been lied to for all these years. Thanks for the update.

Icy 09-30-2004 05:08 AM

I like it a lot, but if you live in Spain you can't buy a V8 with our gas prices (1€ per litre that would be like $6 per galon). I thought it was a more exclusive car in the USA but when i went to Miami last year i saw tons of them.

Yeah, they are actually pretty inexpensive.

Not a bad choice. The redesign 911 looks better. You can actually tell them and the Boxster apart now.

And we Americans complain about our $2.20 a gallon. *shakes head*

Yeah, high schoolers are able to buy used ones.

SunDancer 04-03-2005 12:23 AM

Wanted to bump this...My dad just got one today. A Cherry Apple red with black strip down the side (with Mustang), and a V-6, it's pretty sweet. The interior is tight, backseat really has no room, but the chrome and dashboard and steering wheel is really nice. I'm not a huge Mustang, or American carmaker, fan, but this ride is def. very nice. I personally would take a black 911 or Boxster though-they get my heart pumping. :)

dubb93 04-03-2005 01:28 AM

.....still not impressed by the new ones. The front end looks fuckin stupid.

Eh...I think it looks better then the old ones. Personally, Mustangs or US-car companies aren't my thing, but I think Ford got this one right. Everyone has differnet tastes.

Desnudo 04-03-2005 03:03 PM

Definitely an improvement over those generic shoeboxes they'd been putting out since the mid-70s.

At $22k-$28k, it's def. good value. The problem we'll see is that alot (not all) get them, think they all that are cool because they a common car such as the Mustang.

If ya wait until the end of fall, beginning of winter you can get an even better price than that. I agree its a good value for the price. Im not a fan of the redesign but I havent been a fan of Mustangs....uhhhh ever really.

I wouldn't count too highly on the "better price". The supply and demand of the Mustangs won't allow people to negotiate as much like other cars nearing the end of the year.

bosshogg23 04-03-2005 04:38 PM

Not sure what the MSRP ran for the previous Mustangs but in Nov-Dec roughly they advertise at 15,000 here in Philly. So your paying 18-20. Thats pretty good. Again the old style not the new ones.

Oh, I though you meant to wait on the new, redesign models.
