Recommend a Poker book to me.
 

looking for a book on hold em strategy. by default, I've been looking at the Doyle Brunson book, but I'm open to any and all suggestions.

Super System is Great, if you want something a little lighter and more basic I recomend Play Poker Like the Pro's by Phil Hellmuth. It is good for beginers if you can get past all of Phil's self promoting.

Read Small Stakes Hold'em by Miller/Sklansky/Malmuth. Best introduction to strong strategy you can get.

It's a very good book, but even the authors don't recommend that be a first book. It's semi-advanced for low limit games I would say.

I suggest Hold 'Em Excellence by Lou Krieger or Winning Low Limit Hold 'Em by Lee Jones as a first book.

Sorry Lathum but I have to disagree with your suggestions. Super System has little value anymore. The only relevant section anymore is the no limit section and it promotes a style that is too aggressive if you aren't known as a good player and have very deep stacks. And Helmuth's book is not good.

For beginner level play either Winning Low Limit Hold 'Em (Lee Jones) or Internet Texas Hold 'Em (Matt Hilger) are usually the most recommended.

Once you ahve a good grasp of those moving on to Small Stakes Hold 'Em (Ed Miller) is a must.

A good progression would probably be Hilger to Miller and then move on to something really dense like Hold Em for Advanced Players (Malmuth, Sklansky).
