I will say it is a bit more adult than the normal pixar fare tho. Some intense action, lots of guns, lots of scenes of real peril. This one scene reminded me a lot of the speeder bike sequence in return of the jedi. Except it was about a thousand times better. And as a bonus, there is an episode 3 teaser trailer too.

Here's a question for you - why are 99% of Pixar movies ALWAYS good? Why do 99% of live-action movies stink? Has Disney/Pixar cornered the market on clever writing and good story-telling?

Cars looks stupid to me as well. Its gonna have to have a helluva story to compensate for the basically stereotypical characters. The Incredibles was written by the guy behind the Iron Giant.

This movie is amazing, it was the best thing I've seen in ages. The animation is excellent, the story is extremely well written, and there is a lot of real excitement and action. I'm sure I'll be seeing it again soon.

Because it costs so much to do that computer animation, they want to make sure they have a damn good story to base it on.

Just got home and this was a very enjoyable movie. A+ Pixar.

Yeah, but they will spend similar money on shit live action movies, so i dont think this is entirely true. The Day after Tomorrow, Van Helsig, amoung others, all cost like as much as a Pixar movie and didnt have nearly the story.

The Iron Giant was an excellent movie. Easily one of the best and most overlooked animated films (western) out there. I recommend it to anyone, and I'm not just talking about those with kids.

GREAT MOVIE. With that said I found myself asking why I was enjoying it because it was not full of jokes, although it had some funny stuff, and it was not jam packed with action up to that point. I came to the conclusion that first off, I just really enjoyed looking at the settings and the animation overall. And the story is more adult, and is very well written, it flows good with no real dull moments. It also sets it up the rest of the movie real well in the begining.

Disney does not do any work on these films. Pixar creates them and uses Disney as the distributor. Basically Pixar is SI Games and Disney is Eidos.

Wow, excellent, excellent movie. I have to agree with stevew that they borrowed heavily from the RotJ speederbike scene, and it worked great. Great lines, great animation, overall just a fantastic movie.

Saw it as well. It was a great movie...however, my 6 year old didn't like it and my 3 year old was scared during the movie. I'm not sure who the target audience was, but I think it's more for the older kids/adults.

It occurred to me why I liked this movie better than Shrek 2. The cartoonists from Disney's cartoon studios have jumped ship to Pixar. Because of this, I think that Pixar has balanced a "real" look with a "cartoon" look in CG. I think Shrek 2 tried to go too real. Just my two cents.

Overall, a really good movie.

They went for - and got - a PG rating, so I agree... likely audience is 8+. Haven't seen it yet, waiting for the wife to get back in town.

My kids (10 and 9) LOVED it. My wife and I (33 and 32) loved it! So the target audience has to at least be between 9 and 33! Probably can leave out teen-agers....they hate most everything if it's recommended by 9 and 33 year olds. :)

The Star Wars III trailer was enough to make me go pay full admission again and then just leave after the trailers. :)

The Iron Giant is a very under-rated family movie. Just a great story line and fun for everybody.

my 5 year old girl loved the movie, we plan on seeing it again.

Background info: we moved here in April, so we haven't gone to many movie theaters.

I got online, and it would've cost us about $48 to go to the Palisades Mall to see it (coliseum seating though). In Middletown, NY, at the Galleria it cost us $38. Unfortunately, it had the "old" style of seating where my kids needed booster seats to see the movie. I would've rather had paid the extra $10 for the coliseum seating.

Another thing, we didn't see the Star Wars trailer. We saw trailers for Cars (which doesn't look that bad to me, FWIW), Magadascar, Spongebob, National Treasure, and Lemony Snicket. We also saw the Pixar short about the sheep and jackalope....but no Star Wars Episode III trailer. I'm not sure why we didn't see it.

Another thing, what is up with people clapping at the end of the movie? I'm pretty sure that no one who was involved in the making of this movie was there to receive their appreciation. This just seems absurd to me. Has this happened to anyone else who's seen this movie?

Our family of 4 paid $21 to get into the movie theatre than we paid a whopping $27.50 for 3 medium soda's, a large popcorn, a medium popcorn, and a regular nachos.

$48.50 is just absurd and why we only go to the movies about once a month. But, we do it for the kids who show their appreciation by immediately getting into a fight in the back of the car on the way home. :rolleyes:

I don't pay for food, now that I bought my own hot oil popcorn maker. I can make popcorn for pennies...popcorn like the movie theater. I can get my fix from that. I estimate it cost maybe $5 total to pay for your snacks. It's truly outrageous. (Think JEM and the Holograms).

I know what you mean also about kids showing their appreciation. My daughter whined about being hungry the entire way home because I refuse to spend that much on food at the movie theater. We did give her snacks once we got in the car.

Those trailers are the exact ones I saw, but add the Star Wars one to it, sounds like you got cheated out of that one....

And the clapping thing is kind of dumb to me. Last time I can remember being in a theater when that happened was when Independence Day came out.

Maybe a cultural thing? When I lived in the panhandle of Florida, they would clapped at the end of the movies. I found it odd as well.

They clapped in Turkey as well. I personally liked it...I kept thinking, wow, these people are clapping for something that was made in the USA. Cool!

Our theater didn't show any Star Wars trailer either, just the ones you mentioned.

Great movie, saw it with my girlfriend last night, laughed my ass off.

Saw the movie with friends last night. Very original. It had it's funny moments. Loved the
costume designer scenes, those scenes were very well played out.

I like th eclapping at the end of a truly exceptional movie. It's not about telling the makers that they did a good job to me. It's usually a sponaneous reaction to the film itself and it contributes to the experience as a whole, IMO. It doesn't happen often, but when it does, it puts a huge smile on my face.

Good movie, but not worth the gushing I'm seeing here. Probably the 4th best Pixar pic.

Finally saw this tonight ... best use of computer animation I've ever seen. Period.

Reminded me of the first Spy Kids or the first Shrek with its ability to hold adults as well as kids (Probably 20% of the audience tonight was adults without children) and I'm really not sure that my wife & I didn't enjoy the movie more than Will did.

Great movie, I was laughing so hard in parts I had tears in my eyes.

4th best? Just curious, but which ones do you think are better? I'd put it neck and neck with Toy Story 2 as their best work. And Toy Story 2 has that godawful sarah Mclachlan song interlude where Jesse bitches about being left in a dumpster. This was a notch above Monsters, Nemo, and Bugs Life to me, at least.

Toy Story, Toy Story 2, and Finding Nemo. Personally, I would rank it equal to the other two. Maybe slightly ahead of Monsters Inc.

Awesome movie, and surprisingly not nearly as "childish" (for lack of a better term) than I expceted. I would say it's an action/adventure movie most of all. Well written, well voiced, and outstanding CGI. Pixar will bury Disney when they're free.

how awesome did the robot attacking the city look? the scenes that didn't show humans looked about as close to real as i've seen CGI look.

I know I went and watched it with a fellow 22 year old - and there were a few people my age. Definite appeal across the spectrum for everyone - I dont know a person who went and didnt enjoy it immensly. Grant, what didnt work well for you ?

I thought Nemo was pretty bland on the adult level. Just no an engaging movie. It seems me and Grant have opposite Pixar tastes, because I thought Monsters Inc. and The Incredibles were their best two, with Toy Story right behind them.

Very enjoyable movie - Pixar never fails to please.

Saw it last weekend. Very, very good movie. The Star Wars teaser made me realize how disappointed I will be to watch the movie.

Cars actually grabbed my attention. I hate nascar...and I don't really care for racing. Still...the concept of cars being 'people' (stands were filled with cars) was an excellent idea. I bet somebody got a better parking space once they realized the marketing potential.
