Extreme Home Makeover
Ok, what do are they going to do next to find a deserving family?
On one show, they built a house designed on blocking UV rays so that a young girl who was alergic to the sun could move around her house without worrying about getting sick. They rebuilt a house for a family that was in dire financial straits because their daughter had cancer. Now, this week, they have a family with two deaf parents, and two sons. One son is about to graduate from high school and is a huge help around the house. The other son is blind AND autistic. Can you imagine? Anyway, this show never fails to move me, every single week, but after watching the episode on Sunday night, I really had one of those "my life isn't that bad moments." |
Yeah, there's some real good stuff on that show. Tivo makes sure I never miss it.

No matter how cynical I may try and be about the fact that many of the companies donating stuff to the project can't be doing it out of the goodness of their own hearts and only want the tax break and good publicity, it's just tough not to be moved by the show.
I do wonder how some of the poorer families will afford their utility bills after the upgrades though. |

What I think about is that with freebies, I was estimating that each house costs ABC about $250k. Then I think about how the cast of Friends made 1 million each per episode. I'm not sure how much revenue this show brings ABC, and no matter how cynical I am, I can only hope that they keep this show running for a long, long time. |
I would like to see a "where are they now" type series for people who have these makeovers done... not just the homes, but the "Pimp My Ride" contestants, too.
I'm willing to bet a great number of these people end up either selling their new homes/cars or otherwise screwing the deal up. |

I hear that Uncle Sam wants it share though. For some reason though, I find they go alittle overboard in some of the things they get. |
I watch it because my girlfriend is in love with Ty... I watch it because of the hot girls who "fix up the house"

That house is 5 minutes away from me in Oak Park. It was sick how many people were outside watching them all week. That Ty guy seems cool apparently though. He never turned down people for autographs and all that. More power to these guys. |
best show on TV.....

Yeah i tend to be a bit cynical about shows like that but for some reason i can t get enuff of this one. It plays on Sunday night which is just perfect. For all of those people who are dreading work the next day or think they have it rough just watching this show gives you a little perspective. I too think about the companies donating things and how they are definitely getting something out of it but who cares. This show is one of those feel godd shows that help offset all of the reality crap that is out there.

Well, the advertising time Sears get's probably more than offsets the cost of giving away a housefull of electronics and appliances, especially if the audience is big enough. Not sure what the ratings are for this show. EDIT: Found this article on zaptoit.com with the ratings for this past week. ABC is doing very well on Sunday. http://tv.zap2it.com/tveditorial/tve_main/1,1002,272|91675|1|,00.html |
Large enough that it makes sense. Probably cheaper than a 30 second commercial.

and it attaches the brand name to a feel-good emotional event. This is what marketers crave and rarely achieve with 30 second tv spots. |
