What Kind of Man Does This?
So now that we're having twins, my wife's started going to a support group called Mothers of Multiples. It's supposed to be a great way to network and bond with other mothers (so that you don't end up killing your husband or children, I suppose).
Wifey comes home last night and tells me there's a dad's group that's starting up as well. "Cool," I think. I tell her I'm going to go. I'd like to hang out with some guys, and I probably need to hear some horror stories about lack of sleep and such. And then she tells me: It meets on Monday night. So here's my question: do I even want to be a part of a group with a bunch of guys that apparently don't even care about MNF? Something tells me we probably won't have much in common beyond the fact that our wives are the human equivalent of the Fertile Crescent. Actually, if these guys belong to the women my wife talked to, we won't even have THAT in common. Most of those moms are coming by their twins via medical science, not overactive ovaries. The really scary thing is what if these guys used to be football fans, but after having twins they don't even have time to ponder the idea of sports. Thoughts or suggestions? |
no kind of man does it. don't do it.
|
Maybe they are secretly getting together and watching MNF... ;)
|
"Thoughts or suggestions?"
I would suggest, as a man, you do not need a support group. That is what women go do. Men drink. |

That's what I'd hope. Although I'm more inclined to agree with Desnudo... :D |

That was my thought... "So honey, since you have a woman's support group that has been so good for you, I think I'll start one for men so that we can get in touch with our feelings as well. It meets monday night." She thinks... "That would be good for him and I won't have to deal with him sitting there watching football!" It works a lot better than "I'm going over to Jim's place and watch the game. I'll be back later..." Women tend to not like that. Even better idea... What if it were to meet in a strip club where you can get a lap dance during halftime? Look into it. It could be the best thing since that commercial where the guys are watching the game inside the clothes rack while the women shop! |
sorry fellas, not the drinking type anymore.
I'm kinda hoping that they'll be watching MNF as well. Just don't know that I want to risk it. Actually, I'm pretty sure I'll go, if only to write about the experience. But what in the name of all that is holy possesses a man to schedule such an event on a Monday night? |

Dola: Love the concept, but Northern Virginia is actually more Bible-beltish than Oklahoma. Strip clubs around here might as well be Hooters for all they show and do... or so I've heard. |

If it is an actual girly-type support group for men with no backbone it could be the night that their wives told them to hold it, just to keep them from watching football. |
Then shoot guns. That is also an acceptable, manly option.

I'm definitely thirding or fourthing whoever suggested they're just hanging out, watching MNF :D SI |
I have a friend whose wife is from Kansas City. After church they head into the church basement to watch the Chefs game on the big screen. The pastor always makes sure the service is over before the game starts.
|
ok then, in my best Cameron from Ferris Bueller voice...
I'll go, I'll go, I'll go. And I'll give you all a full reporting afterwards. |
Just make sure you tell the wifey that it is really helping you (if they are watching football)

This was my first thought as well... it's worth a shot. :) |

I think I am of like mind with Desnudo on this one. If you are the type of man who is trying to figure which night to hold a support group you are organizing, you are generally unaware that the NFL exists, let alone that some people like to watch them play on Monday night. |
You guys could talk about football...
i got nothin. I feel for ya, brotha. |

Good ole' Dauphines... |
Maybe I'm missing something... I can't think of the last time MNF had enough compelling matchups to justify even planning to watch it every week.
Dallas at Seattle - Not that one. Kansas City at Tennessee - Not here either. New England at Miami - Only truly interesting for diehard fans of either team, IMO. Philadelphia at St. Louis - This might be one. You may not even have this meeting though, since it is the Monday after Christmas (12/27). After that, MNF is history...perhaps forever (no TV deal yet, right?). Even when I am at home and have the freedom to watch, I might not watch any of those. |
again, perhaps its a way to get away from the kids, hang out with "the guys" and watch the game...in peace. If its not, and its sappy, Id say you never go again, PERIOD. That, IMO, is a travesty of manliness to have any sort of support group on a monday night during Football season.

With ya. It has been a couple of seasons since MNF had a match up I actually stayed up late to watch. I guess last years Colts miracle come back was the last. |
You stayed up late for that? How did you know it was going to happen????

I didn't. I was up playing a computer game (probably CM). I had watched the begining of the game, and then tuned it out. I decided to read the board before going to bed, and people were posting about the comeback. FOFC is a great resource to get a heads-up on sports history in the making. |
Dynasty Time

I smell a dynasty in these words ... :D |
Not trying to be sarcastic, but ... maybe it's that these guys have decided that with their busy schedules it's easier to get everyone together on a Monday night and these guys have decided that their families and their children are more important that watching a football game. I mean, there are 52 Mondays in a year and only 17 have football games. Some people do have priorities, as hard as it is to believe.
That said, MNF comes on at 9 p.m and runs until after midnight where Cam is. Have a hard time believing the meeting runs that late. |
I think you all are being overly optimistic. I would lay 99% on it being a bunch of guys named Stuart and Bruce sitting around in a circle hugging each other for support. The 1% is that they aren't all named Stuart and Bruce.

I used to stop in at Dauphines every now and then for a beer and a wink when I lived in Springfield..... There were a couple girls there I got to know fairly well. COllege girls making a buck or 20..... |

Bob loved me because he thought my testicles were removed too. Being there, pressed against his tits, ready to cry. This was my vacation. |

If you hear anything about a group hug at anytime of the meeting, run Forrest run!

Maybe the group takes a hiatus during football season...and resumes meetings once it concludes.... okay, I got nothin.' |
