Ocean's Twelve

I'm going to go ahead and make this thread now to save time for tomorrow.. I'm pumped.

FBPro 12-09-2004 07:17 PM

Can't wait, will be seeing it in the afternoon tomorrow.

Buccaneer 12-09-2004 07:19 PM

My wife keeps asking me if I'm going to the theatre to see this. Considering that I've only been to 3 movies in the past 5 years, I might consider this knowing that Ocean's 11 is definitely in my top 10 all-time.

Crapshoot 12-09-2004 07:23 PM

Id love to go- damn work. Ocean's 11 is one of those movies I can watch again and again- every time I see it on HBO, I stop surfing and watch it...

Coffee Warlord 12-09-2004 07:42 PM

As much as I loved Ocean's 11, I just have this sinking feeling 12 is gonna suck donkey balls.

Awaiting the FOFC Review (tm)

DaddyTorgo 12-09-2004 07:50 PM

So am I one of the only few people in the world who never saw Ocean's 11, and really have no interest in seeing it or Ocean's 12? Not trying to start anything or bash it or anything, just genuinely curious.

I can relate, I'm the only person never to have seen any of the LotR or Star Wars prequels or any of the superhero movies.

Superhero movies I can understand. Star Wars prequels I can understand. But never having seen any LotR movies?!?!?! Do you realize what you're denying yourself?? Apart from the majesty of the story (tell me you've at least read the book) they are filmmaking spectacles. Amazing filmmaking spectacles! Remedy this!

TLK 12-09-2004 08:27 PM

I can't wait to see this..... Hopefully sometime this weekend....

I can almost relate, unforunately I have seen the star wars prequels to my eternal dismay.

I watched 20 mins of the 1st lotr movie on a trans-atlantic flight, it didn't live up to the book, and bored me rigid.....they may be great filmaking spectacles, but I wasn't entertained (entertain or inform is I believe is what a film shoud do).

Now Ocean's 11 did entertain and I will probably see 12.

I never went out of my way to see it, but I remember renting on hotel ppv on a business trip. For me, it was entertaining to watch.

Celeval 12-09-2004 09:37 PM

CNN - who usually don't have any problems ripping a movie to shreds if it deserves it - calls it "best ensemble film of the year".

Same here. Hopefully I'm proven wrong but the commercials (which you can tell a lot from a movie about but not all) just look like it was kindof thrown together because they all wanted a movie they could slack off in and pick up a paycheck (Ocean's 11 II: The Search for More Money).

well, i haven' seen any of the LotR movies either, nor have I seen episode 2 or 3.

Coffee Warlord 12-10-2004 04:08 PM

Bump, wondering if anyone has caught it yet.

Draft Dodger 12-10-2004 04:36 PM

Entertainment Weekly trashed it - D something (D+ or D-). Haven't read the review...just peeked at the score.

oh, and Fritz honey? Episode 3 isn't out yet. Don't be so hard on yourself.

No you aren't.

Radii 12-10-2004 05:23 PM

I will definitely see it, but do not care whehter I see it in the theater or when it comes out on DVD. I loved the first one, but am not a big theahter goer.

korme 12-10-2004 06:48 PM

Saw it. Obviously, it wasn't as good as the first, it was still good.

I felt it missed some comedic timing that was brilliant in the first one.

I recommend.

Agreed, didn't meet the standard of #1 but few sequels do. Had a few interesting twists and turns in it however, more than I first thought. One of those flicks that I'll catch more of the twists, etc when I watch it again.

duckman 12-10-2004 07:09 PM

I've never been a Clooney fan, so I won't be seeing this movie.

That's sad, because Ocean's 11 and Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? has got to be two of the top ten movies made in the last 10 years.

Buccaneer 12-10-2004 07:16 PM

I'm not a fan of any actors, I like the movies that I do solely because they are fun to watch over and over. Ocean's 11 is one of those few movies that I have seen 10+ times (on DVD) and that's saying a lot because I only watch movies a few times a month.

I admit that I've seen Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? thanks to my brother. He was sick and he wanted to see it so I rented it for him.I enjoyed the way the story was done, but Clooney is not a very good actor in my opinion.

Oh, cmon now, thats overrating O11 significantly. It might be in the top 50. But its nowhere near the top 10.
And Oh Brother is like the Coens 3rd or 4th best film in the last 10 years.

Buccaneer 12-10-2004 07:46 PM

It appears there may be a difference of opinion.

O think you significantly over-rate the movies made in the last ten years, and Oh Brother in first just slightly ahead of Fargo for Coen brother's movie made in the last ten years.

i have yet to see Oceans 11, Fight Club, or any of the LOTR movies. Yet somehow I'm still able to sleep tonight. :)

I didn't see Fight Club until last year. It ended up being another one of those movies that was decent but not worthy of the worship some give it.

FOFC had a fight club once.

Anyone else sick of the "popularity-hate" in this thread?

You know, the "look at me, I'm cool because I didn't do what the herd did" statements? Yeah, you guys are all such wonderfully hip contrarians.

I think I have seen every movie mentioned in this thread, I have liked or even loved every movie in this thread (except O12, haven't seen it yet), I consider my life at least minimally richer for having enjoyed the experience at one time or another, I don't think I am cool based on whether I have seen these movies or not or whether anyone knows it on an Internet message board, I don't give a fig's shit to know if anyone here has seen or not seen these movies, and, yes, with all these facts in place, I can still sleep at night, in fact without even thinking about this.

Loved O11, and I would say it might be on my own personal list of the top ten movies I enjoyed in the last decade. That said, I don't expect O12 to be great, just competent and enjoyable (I hope).

I didn't know figs shit.

Buccaneer 12-10-2004 09:16 PM

Hey Matt, if you don't give a higo's shit about anyone else's likes or dislikes, why did you even bother to talk about movies that you liked or disliked? I think you are VERY COOL that you know that fig's shit.

Just pointing out that those people in this thread who think they are cool because they didn't follow like sheep with the rest of the crowd have a grossly inflated image of themselves. I said I liked those movies because, well, duh, everyone else (the sheep) generally did, too, apparently, considering most of those are some of the top grossing movies of all time. Basically, saying I am an unabashed sheep in that way, and I don't think I am cool or not cool based on my viewing preferences, and I think it's the ultimate dork move to pull the contrarian-to-society move that I see so often around here. It's like, look at me, I'm not like you, I'm so wonderful because of that!

BTW, I don't know that a higo even exists. I do know what a fig is, at least.

CR

Buccaneer 12-10-2004 09:39 PM

Come on Chief, you get so serious sometimes. :) By the way, go in the Mexican Food aisle sometime and you'll see what higos are. That makes very cool and very un-sheeplike to know that, doesn't it.

No, it just means you like Mexican food more than I do. :)

I'll have to check out higos. Is it a spice?

Heh heh sorry if I get so serious. People being contrarian to gain points on an Internet board just strikes me as so pointless that it elevates itself to a pet peeve. :)

I am happy to see you like O11 so much, as I think it has some of the best dialogue and comedic timing I have seen from a mainstream movie. I catch it whenever I see it on, if I can.

CR

Swaggs 12-10-2004 10:04 PM

Just saw it.

I thought it was a fun movie and it looked like they enjoyed making it. It was not made as tightly as Ocean's 11 and, without giving up much, I felt a little cheated with it. I thought Matt Damon was pretty funny throughout and stood out. Clooney played it a little too cool...almost like he phoned it in. All and all, definitely worth seeing, and I'll probably want to see it again.

You've never seen them, but you disagree? Interesting. Sort of like saying, "I don't like higo's, though I've never ate one."

Um, I don't consider myself to be particularly cool to begin with, so I certainly wasn't trying to be "contrarian hip". Hell, I just watched "Dodgeball" and really enjoyed it. I was just making a generic smartass comment. Sorry if it could be construed otherwise.

DaddyTorgo 12-10-2004 10:37 PM

true. i guess i can't disagree without seeing them. But then again it is just one person's opinion. I'm just saying that I would think that if we're talking about "the top 10 movies of the last 10 years" or whatever, there'd be a fairly broad-based consensus, and I would think as a cinephile I would have seen most of the candidates...

Well, my comments are for those who actually are being contrarian for the sake of it. It's meant for them. So if you're not truly being that way, it's not targeted at you. :)

I hated the Big Lebowski and TMWWT was ok, at best.

dola:

Actually, The Ladykillers were better than Lebowski and TMWWT, and it wasn't that good.
