Goin for promotion??

With two weeks left in the season I find myself just two points behind the first place team in my series. Comparing our point totals to the automatic promotion cutoff...whoever ends up winning the series will have to play a qualifier. Now if I happen to catch him and gain first place...with the team that I have...would it be in my best interest to NOT win the qualifier?

Here's a brief rundown:

I'm in series VI and this is my first season. All of the positions are filled with Passables with the exception of my midfield where all my trainees are Solid with one or two possibly reaching Excellent by the beginning of next season. By my best guess...I'll end up breaking even financially at the end of the season with all the prize money figured in. That would be the estimation if I don't sell any players before next season...which I see no reason to do right now.

So my initial thought is to not qualify...stay in series VI where I can dominate all next year...which in turn will continue to boost my supporters and then sell off some of my trainees and build up the rest of my team to be more prepared for series V next season.

Am I correct in my analysis? Or are their more benefits in trying to promote this year and I'm just not seeing them?

I think you could do alright in some D.V's, just after your final match leave some time that week to do a full scouting on your perspective series. If you feel you can beat 3 teams (including the autopromotes) I'd say go for it. You don't seem to be dominating your series either so a chance to promote may not come up again.

As a whole D.V and D.VI don't have much parity yet (first seasoners can still survive in some series), as a bonus even if you do go back down there's still a 50-50 chance you'll be put in a bot series to head right back up.

Actually I am dominating in my series. All of the current teams took over 8 weeks ago and I'm 7-1-0 with scoring 30 goals and only giving up 2. Both shots that I've given up this year have gone in for goals. So in essence my keeper has a 0% save percentage and I haven't lost. :)

So with that in mind...is promoting more of an option? I'm just worried about losing supporters and not making as much money.

I've lucked out quite a bit, and am heading IV.44 in 1st place. Really, I'm the 3rd or 4th best team in the series, but things have just broken my way this season. I'm playing my last home game this week against a highly competitive 3rd place team, and my stadium expansion to 90k will be done 2 days before. Both of us are coming off wins. I'm hoping for something special attendance wise.

As it stands, I need to win out to finish 1st, which I just see as unlikely. The team I play this week will very likely MOTS me and go for 1st place themselves.

Still, as I was in V last season, being in 1st place this late in the season is quite fun and unexpected!

looks like I'll be promoting to D.III again....still not ready though.

I've got an outside shot at bumping back up to III, but it's doubtful (I'd need the HT gods to SERIOUSLY screw over the guy in 1st this sunday). This IV is brutal, though I've gotten horribly, horribly fucked by the engine at least twice this year.

Barring the engine hating me again, we'll be back in III next year, and actually be able to compete.

Clinched a qualifier to attempt to stay in D.III, not sure if winning it is for the best but going to try.

Back to Mike, I don't believe there's enough difference between D.V and D.VI yet to write off promotion until you look at the series you draw. Plus you never know what will happen, I dominated my D.V series for 4 seasons before it took an 88th minute game-tying before I promoted into my first and only D.IV season.

Thanks rickJ. I'm definitely going for it after the advice that I've received. Now I just need to top team to lose just one of the next two games for me to get in.
