I Love The Internet Wayback Machine

hxxp://www.archive.org/web/web.php

I've been using the site for some time when I wanted to find something from the past but it never fails to amuse/amaze me. It is great to look up a site to see what it was like 2 years or 5 years ago.

I was using it to help me locate coach changes in the NFL from the last 10 years so I could come up with a "Coach Gets Fired" formula ( still a work in progress ) and, once I found one link, I found myself branching off to look at other links.

Here are a couple of fun links ( not all of the links from each page are "live" since not everything is archived )
FOFC ( Oct 2000 )
hxxp://web.archive.org/web/20001110145100/www.sportplanet.com/fof/

Yahoo ( Oct 96 )
hxxp://web.archive.org/web/19961017235908/http://www2.yahoo.com/

OOTP ( Oct 99 )
hxxp://web.archive.org/web/19991013073841/http://ootp.net/

FBB ( Jun 01 )
hxxp://web.archive.org/web/20010628063410/www.sportplanet.com/fbb/

Try some yourself.

DaddyTorgo 01-05-2005 12:08 AM

haha. I had forgotten how lame sites like yahoo looked back in 1996. It's actually quite...remarkable how far things have come.

MikeVic 01-05-2005 12:35 AM

This is cool. :D

Nice find.

I remember that OOTP page way back then. I think there was like 10 or 15 guys that browsed the boards then. Things have changed.

Guess it didn't work out so well for the M's, eh?

This one probably doesn't mean much to anyone but SI, Shorty, and myself:

I disagree (so what else is new?). Major sites today are so cluttered with useless, bandwidth hogging crap that it becomes unvisitable. The worse is ESPN by far. Solecismic still understands that getting to the content simply is best.

What he said.

Simple, non-flashy websites are the best.

I miss the days when the joke answer on polls on FOFC didn't involve a trout in the rectum.

Thanks for re-posting your archive link, sov -- a nice little trip down memory lane for me. There's some really good stuff there. *sniff*

This is just plain awesome: the old dolphin hockey league I used to commission:

MikeVic 01-05-2005 08:34 PM

Can you do actual searches? I'd like to find pages for some of the old leagues I was in.. but no way I have those bookmarked.

Buccaneer 01-05-2005 08:36 PM

Is it possible to get to a particular page on the Sideline forum?

Franklinnoble 01-06-2005 11:33 AM

dola... looks like the page redirects to SBC Yahoo now.

sterlingice 01-06-2005 11:43 AM

Prodigy got bought out a long time ago. I forgot by who, tho. Just as Compuserve got bought out by AOL, iirc, when the business started compressing.

Well, my parents still have a Prodigy.net e-mail addy...

I miss the days of web based chat rooms, searching 100 sites for good free nudie pics, and waiting 2 hours to download a swank wav file of Homer Simpson to use in your sound scheme.
