Is ESPN NFL 2k5 worth buying on PS2?

It's only getting released over here end of the month, and having got more and more frustrated with the Madden games over the last few years (to the point where I played Madden 2k5 about five or six times, put it back in the box and haven't reopened it since) was wondering what the competition was like...

The gameplay itself is very good. There are some flaws with the dynasty mode that are annoying. If it is cheap there, like it was here, I'd recommend at least giving it a look.

Yeah, it's only £20, RRP so should be able to find it for £15 easy enough. The flaws in the dynasty mode sound worrying though - what sort of things do you mean?

I mean the AI's drafting is very bad, there are cap management problems (it miscalculates the cap when you release guys or renegotiate deals), there are some trading issues as well. To me, the dynasty mode wasn't enjoyable. As a result, I play Madden which has a solid franchise mode. However, I liked ESPN's gameplay better than Madden. I was new to the ESPN Football series. I purchased it mainly because of the 19.99 dollar price point.

Go for it, it's the most played game at this household for quite a while, I love it. The complaints are valid though, it does have issues with franchise which really bums me out. It's just so much better than Madden otherwise that I let it slide though. ;)

Pretty much what everyone else has said, but definitly worth the purchase. The BEST presentation in any sports game.

I was blown away by the presentation when I first started playing, and was pleasantly surprised to find that the gameplay is very good too. If it wasn't for the dynasty mode problems, this would have been a classic game to own. As it is, it is well worth the 20 dollars.

It was released here in Australia a few weeks ago. I have had Madden 05 since it first came out (Sept 04) and like yourself had become increasingly frustrated with it.

ESPN's game is excellent. The visuals are outstanding and has already been mentioned the overall presentation is sensational. Gameplay is very good, commentry is much better than Madden's rubbish and overall it is just more "fun" to play. I would definitely recommend it.

Cheers for the input guys, I'll give it a go - downside is from the looks of it that if I do like the game, there won't be a 2k6...

I have played Madden for almost 7 days. If my math is correct I have played it for close to 168 hours... wow, I need to get a life.

well Sega has ESPN for one more year (EA's deal doesn't kick in until 2006)
