Dynasty
Not that I disagree with the definition, but when did it become common knowledge that three superbowl wins in X years makes a team a dynasty?
And what is X? And does regular season record matter, or how the team did in the non-championship years? Or is it only 3 or more championships in X years? Thanks in advance. So many people have been throwing around the D word that I must have missed the memo defining it. |

the media has been throwing around 3 championships in 10 years, but who knows.

This seems a fair place to put this.
With all this talk about the Patriots' remarkable playoff run (now 10-1 under Belichick, and perhaps 9-0 under Brady) ... doesn't this tend to give them a bit of credit for the 2002 season, where they were (for whatever reason) not good enough to even make the playoffs? I don't have much specific recollection of their team from that year, but it's kinda weird how their inability to even sneak into the playoffs (and probably lose a road game and go 0-1 that year) is seemingly adding to the legend of these Patriots -- by avoiding an unfortunate playoff loss (and expecially a "big game" loss) along the way, it's almost like people are treating this as a three-peat (tm). Interesting, that's all. Anyone have a nutshell recollection of the 2002 season for the Pats, and why they failed to make the playoffs? Should anyone be mentioning this as we lavish our limitless praise on this perfect team? |
Well theirs gotta be a word for what the Steelers, Pats, 49ers, Cowboys did, might as well use Dynasty.

In 2002, the Pats lost a 3-way division tiebreaker to the Jets (9-7 record, also tied with the Dolphins). That year their scoring defense was horrible, giving up 346 points, while the offense only put up 381. |

I think it was as simple as the guys not exactly knowing how to handle being on top and taking the oppositions best every week. Belichick did this whole "target sept" thing to try and eliminate any letdown. That worked, they started 3-1 but ran into big trouble stopping the run. A horrible loss to the Jets at home in week 16(their last home loss to date) left them needing help in the last week. They gallantly beat Miami but watched as the Jets won the late game to knock the Pats out at 9-7. Basically 2 late season losses to Ten and the Jets cost them the playoffs. |
As far as "dynasty" being applied, it's a stupid term to put on something that is a historical perspective. Ridiculous.
Let's see what happens particularly in a day and age where it's a largely different team every year. I'm elated the Pats organization will have none of it. |

Oh and double dola. Damn you. |
I believe the Cardinals and Bengals had dynasties going in the past decade as well.
