If this has been mentioned here already, I must have missed it, so forgive me.
If not, I'm amazed that it has been overlooked

A couple of new groundrules this year
1) Past champs are no longer eligible (which is why you won't get to vote on Kournikova, Finch or Mitts 2) No athlete who isn't at least 18 years old is eligible. (Around here, we're calling that one the "Sharapova Rule.")

The brackets:
1)Amy Acuff, Christine Arron, Jennifer Barretta, Amanda Beard, Tanith Belbin, and Gretchen Bleiler

2)Swin Cash, LaTasha Colander, Natalie Coughlin, Jelena Dokic, Biba Golic, and Natalie Gulbis

3)Becky Hammon, Kristi Leskinen, Misty May, Lokelani McMichael, Jessica Mendoza, and Grace Park

4) Jennifer Rosales, Kaitlen Sandeno, Amy Taylor, Logan Tom, Rachel Wacholder, and Serena Williams

Maybe it's just me, but this is the weakest field I can recall. At least 1/3rd of these don't strike me as remotely hot by any definition of the word and at least a couple of them are below-average-in-a-random-bar, and at least one of them isn't far from downright fugly (at least based on the pictures provided).

I don't even recognize most of them, but I was shocked to see that Kerri Walsh isn't on there.

Yeah, how do you put in Misty May and not Kerri Walsh? That is like putting in the wicked step-sisters, but not Cinderella.

Bracket 4 is particularly tough.

So which blonde is going to win this year? Jeez, they could just trot out some random blonde biathlon woman, and she'd probably get more votes than a bunch of rather attractive brunette, black, or Asian women, unless one of them has gotten a large amount of TV coverage. For instance, Natalie Coughlin likely wouldn't stand a chance without her face time during last year's Olympics. Same goes for Amanda Beard (I'm not a big fan of Beard's looks, but she's beating out four blondes right now). Thank God for swimming. I've got nothing against blondes, and there are certainly some very good-looking ones, but in the past, these contests are over before they even start. I keep thinking that maybe most of the voters would want to see something different once, but then something like Group 3 hits me. Come on, Kristi Leskinen over Misty May? Puh-lease.

Speaking of Misty May, in my opinion, she's infinitely hotter than Kerri Walsh. Kerri Walsh looks like Robin Williams, for crying out loud. I also think I've married Misty May's ass in my dreams a couble of times. Arriba!

Yeah, I can think of lots of female athletes missing. I'm not sure what they were doing, short of maybe avoiding to put people up there who they thought might not want the "Stigma" of being noticed for their looks. But hey...ESPN needs to do something to be like SI in that way, me thinks.

But seriously though, I'm not sure what's going on with this field. Some are definetely nice, but maybe they were going after women who weren't married? I dunno. I got nothing.

You know what? Even though she's not playing anymore, I'm going to give Rebecca Lobo some love. I don't think she ever got nominated for any of these things, and that's a shame. Here's everyone's favorite picture of her:

Without Fatima Moreira De Melo this contest is not worth mentioning.

Swin Cash looked pretty damn nice in her pic, but my odds on favorite is the Aussie soccer player in the bikini...

Well, if they can have a Yugoslavian table tennis "star" from Texas Wesleyan, I think there's certainly room for someone in Dutch field hockey. Right?

Natalie Gulbis or Swin Cash stand out in a relativley weak bracket Too close to call

Lokelani McMichael will nip Kristi Leskinen. Grace Park wonders if she went to the right room.

I think Amy Taylor might sneak past the sentimentalists who are backing Logan Tom.

Where the hell is Sue Bird? i'm abstaining this year.

They should pick pictures without bias. Judging by pictures only, Amy Taylor would win (those look like nice funbags).

I understand this. It is a life changing or at least lifestyle changing type of event. Not something to be done lightly. Well there's that and that whole shag carpet thing.

Word. It's not a great picture of her on ESPN, but she's one of the few good things I remember from the Olympics.
