Dennis Haysbert was Pedro Cerrano??

I was watching Major League last night, and read the credits that said Dennis Haysbert played Pedro Cerrano.

How weird is it that the man who said "f*** you, Joe Boo" was the flippin' president of the United States in "24"??? The two characters don't even look like one another.

I'm still in shock.

Is very bad to drink Jobu's rum. Is very bad.

"Hats keep bats warm."
"Get me Jack Bauer."

Seems pretty easy to see to me ;)

IIRC, he was also a baseball player in the unforgetable "Mr. Baseball" starring Tom Seleck.

gottimd 02-26-2005 07:28 PM

He was also Coach Duane Johnson on Just the Ten of Us (1988-1989)

The Growing Pains spin-off? Wow

Draft Dodger 02-26-2005 07:58 PM

wow, I didn't know that either (about the Major League thing). now, looking at IMDB, I see he also was the ex-con cook / driver in Heat.

Cool. That guy (the driver) kicked ass. One movie where it was hard not to cheer the bad guys on.

Draft Dodger 02-26-2005 08:16 PM

and, just to bring this "I did not know that" thread full circle, you guys all know that Ted Levine (the head cop from "Monk" who also played a cop in "Heat") was Jame Gumb in "Silence of the Lambs"?

Coffee Warlord 02-26-2005 08:48 PM

I got one better than that, for all the Sci-Fi fans.

Lenier from Babylon 5? Also known as the original Will Robinson.

I didn't know it was possible to NOT know that Dennis Haysbert was Pedro Cerrano. Cam, come on! You're bleeding cool points. :)

Yeah, I was about to say the same thing... who DIDN'T know this?

CamEdwards 02-26-2005 09:54 PM

hmmm, apparently I don't place as much stock in knowing who played what in movies and tv shows as some of you.

bad for my geek cred, but good for my social life I suppose. :D

ISiddiqui 02-26-2005 10:18 PM

Do you also get confused when an actor is involved in two different movies? When you saw Minority Report was it shocking when you realized it was same main actor as in Days of Thunder? ;)

sovereignstar 02-26-2005 10:21 PM

Zing!

I get disappointed when you know something is going to happen in a movie and when you get to that scene you hope it doesn't happen. Everytime I watch Top Gun, I hope this is the time Goose doesn't get killed.

For those of you scoring at home (pun for Cam's social life intended), Goose is also Dr. Green from ER and Gilbert from the Revenge of the Nerds trilogy.

In the same vein, I was never able to watch Tim Matheson playing the Vice President Hoynes on The West Wing without thinking -- is it really possible that Otter could be a heartbeat away from the presidency?

ISiddiqui 02-26-2005 10:35 PM

Why not... after all, we were informed that there was a Senator Blutarsky ;).

Franklinnoble 02-27-2005 02:37 AM

Doesn't this guy do Allstate commercials?

Oh, and I've never seen an episode of "24"... but... the President is black?

TazFTW 02-27-2005 02:48 AM

Yes, he does the Allstate commercials and yes through the first 3 seasons of 24 there was a black president (well actually in season 2 and 3 he was president, in the 1st season he was running for president).

That was the same guy???

Glengoyne 02-27-2005 11:46 AM

I'll join the parade of folks who had no clue that Jobu was an ex-con fry cook killed in a bank robbery, only to be ressurected to become President of the United States in "24". I did know that bit about Jame Gumm being Monk's boss though.

cthomer5000 02-27-2005 11:57 AM

are you saying that Jesus Christ can't hit a curve ball?

Real? I was cheering for the end of that turkey.

Everytime I watch Major League (which is very often), I can't understand how Bob Eucker didn't win an Oscar for his delivery of those lines. There's a solid 5 minute stretch (when Vaughn makes his debut) when he delivers classic after classic.

"Personally, I think we got hosed on that call."

"Vaughn, a juvenile delinquent in the offseason, in his major league debut."

A fave:
"For the Indians, no runs on one hit -- that's all we got? One god-danmned hit?"
"You can't say god-damned on the air."
"Nobody's listening anyway."

And somethiing I think I heard Mike Shannon say on a Cardinals broadcast once after too many Buds:
"Postgame show is brought to you by ... Christ, I can't find it. The hell with it."

gottimd 02-27-2005 03:59 PM

Gotta love Vaughns line when he is in a Tux/Suit with ripped off sleaves and says "I feel like a banker in this."

Logan 02-27-2005 04:19 PM

Haywood: "Taylor, what are you doin here?"
Jake: "Ah, couldn't cut it in the Mexican League."

Pumpy Tudors 02-27-2005 04:33 PM

From Major League II:
