Laptop Question

Are laptops supposed to get warm? The right side of my new laptop is currently warm, and I can feel it on my hands.

Is this normal?

If it has been on for a long time, yes. If it is so hot, you can't touch it, you may have a VD, I mean you should shut down.

It's been on for half an hour, and it's warm. Hasn't gotten any warmer yet though...

Ok, thanks.

I also heard if you keep it on your lap (around your crotch), it kills sperm... is this true??

Are you running any game...especially any games from Sports Interactive?

Studies have shown that it is.

I'm honoured to be the subject of your second post.

No, just updating.

WWSM 2005 makes mine heat up like crazy. There were some reports that people's laptop processors were overheating to the point of critical shutdown.

Eaglesfan27 03-04-2005 02:39 PM

My laptop was overheating while playing FM (that is the only game it did it) and constantly freezing as a result which would result in my needing to do a hard reboot of my laptop. I bought a tray-like device that has dual cooling fans made by Targus for about 25 dollars. It works great. My laptop still gets a little warm, but the fans draw heat away and blow it away from me. I've never had any laptop freezes since I bought it. It might be worth investing in if your laptop is getting too warm.

JUST KISS IT

Ok, another question:

If it's cold outside (-30 degrees celcius..), and I have the laptop in a shoulder-strap bag, do you think it would damage the laptop? Or is that enough protection from the cold? It's not some expensive leather laptop case... just a bag with a shoulder strap that can fit a laptop.

Thanks.

Hah, another quick one... not sure how it works with laptops, but when I check the processor, it says Athlon XP 2800+.. then the next line says 797MHZ (and sometimes changes to something like 300MHZ), along with the RAM.

This seems strange... is the MHZ my processor speed? Or am I just confused over something dumb...

If you're going a short distance I don't think it should be a problem, 2 things I wouldn't do though, wouldn't take it while it is hot (has been running for awhile) out into the cold, and wouldn't start it up as soon as you get to whereever you're going while it is cold.

I bought a "cooler pad" for my laptop a while ago, it's a cloth-covered piece of thick cardboard with a heat-sinking material on one side. It works great for siphoning off the excess heat on the underside. This is the one (Swedish text): http://www.dabus.se/?84922

Another similar laptop pad, different solution: http://www.lapinator.com/

And a story what could happen to the male's best friend if you don't use one of the above: http://www.ergoweb.com/news/detail.cfm?id=636
