Delta Airlines

Umm.... You don't actually use the pillows that like 10 strangers have had their face on, do you????

(POB)

mhass 03-09-2005 04:50 PM

That's kind of weird. Haven't they already bought the pillows?

Ksyrup 03-09-2005 04:50 PM

Delta Airlines

You may have heard about Delta's recent changes to pricing, designed to make things simpler and more cost-effective. I just got an email describing some of the changes going into effect now. Most of these don't bother me - dropping the food purchase program, lengthening the minimum flight time for providing certain types of snacks, charging more for alcohol, etc. Then I get to the last one:

Effective March 15, we will no longer carry pillows on flights within the 48 contiguous states or flights between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, Central America or the Caribbean.

I mean, c'mon. No pillows? What's next - BYOFD (Bring Your Own Flotational Device)? Provide your own ice cubes? Send your baggage Fed Ex?

This one just seems a bit silly to me. I'm sure it saves them millions, but...

CraigSca 03-09-2005 04:56 PM

But those are such weenie pillows - I thought they were disposable.

Probably the cost of laundering the damn things are what they're trying to eliminate...

Ksyrup 03-09-2005 05:01 PM

I rarely, if ever, use them. It's just that I know a lot of people do, and it seems like this is one of those goodwill costs you eat, particularly when you're charging people $300+ to sit with their legs bent up to their chins for hours at a time. Just strikes me as strange, that's all.

They should go back to charging for earphones. They past couple of years, they've given them away. But no pillows. No sir.

Whatever. I don't fly big airlines like Delta anymore. My last big trip was on JetBlue, and they kick ass for a discount airline.

DirecTV at every seat, free headphones (or bring your own), all new planes, decent in-flight snacks and drinks, reserved seats (that are a little roomier than other airlines), outstanding customer service.

Oh, and pillows.

gstelmack 03-09-2005 05:58 PM

I haven't flown in a few years and am unlikely to unless forced. Just WAY too much hassle nowadays.

I wish JetBlue flew out of Detroit, but that won't be for another couple years likely. The only 'value carrier' I've had experience with recently was EasyJet in Europe, and I was pleasantly surprised at the level of comfort and service they offered.

Ksyrup 03-09-2005 07:06 PM

We're lucky to have airline service out of Tallahassee, much less a "discount" airline.

bbor 03-09-2005 10:52 PM

Will they still have those peanuts?

That's the deal breaker for me.

JeeberD 03-10-2005 10:43 AM

Airlines don't give out peanuts anymore because of allergies. Now it's just goddamn pretzels.

I miss my honeyroasted loves...

It's my understanding that grocery stores now carry these, instead of being the exclusive property of the air carriers. :D

That's not a bad idea, actually.

Where is your hand?

Between two pillows.

Those aren't pillows!
