5/19/05 - We Will Never Forget

Nothing?
Damn... I thought it was pretty funny. |
It was Franklin- I did chuckle the first time. :D
|
Reasonably funny...I guess the funniest part is that it's Fox News reporting.
|
I got a good chuckle out of it. Not really up to guffaw level, but definitely worth a chuckle.
|
I'm not sure I get the relevance of the date. Is that when the last movie is being released?
|
Quote:
Yeah. I was trying to be clever. |
Am I the only one who found it not funny in the slightest... I know it's three + years since 9/11, that we can mock it in such a way?
(I'm probably in the minority, but.. eh) |
The title's good (We will never forget), the fox news logo and ticker are a nice touch, but I think the picture's a weak link.
SI |

I thought about that... but I think Lucas was sort of deliberately going for some 9/11 imagery there. Either way, it's a funny bit of photoshop work. |
Quote:
You may be a minority, but you aren't totally alone either. Once again, you're thinking like me ... be afraid, be very afraid ;) |
Quote:
I'm part of that minority. |
Is there a minority of a minority that have no interest in the three recent SW movies (incl the upcoming one)?
|
Quote:
ditto. |
I am, unfortunately, not a minority of the minority and have been waiting for the new movie to come out.
|
Quote:
I am the minority of this minority in that I never had interest in any of the Star Wars movies. |
I am hoping against hope that Star Wars III kicks ass.
I went to see The Incredibles when the Star Wars III trailer kicked on. I've never seen a bunch of people go nuts over a black screen and heavy breathing like that before. And probably never will again. |
Lighten up, Francises.

Quote:
I'm in the minority as well. Thought it was incredibly tasteless. I'm as big a Star Wars fanboy as anyone... but damn. |
Quote:
Not sure if this is still the minority side, but yeah, me too. Crim |
Incredibly tasteless?
Man, some people have a serious case of "stick up ass" syndrome. I'm with sovereignstar. SI |
If we can't laught at parody screenshots relating sort of to 9/11, the terrorists have won.
|
i'm in the minority who find those who find this in poor taste to be in poor taste.
|
If you look at it just as "art imitates life," I found it pretty funny.
However, I suspect that those who created it did so with clear political implications, and it's what they're trying to imply that I find tasteless. |
Political implications? Are you fucking serious???
|
This is what I do not get, can we not show any building on fire from a distance any more?
Heck, I remember shots like these watching old WWII movies, just substitute the building for a carrier or battleship. |

Shrug. Do the math. How many other people in the thread have called this image tasteless because of the inevitable 9/11 comparisons? Okay, let's assume that the picture was meant to draw that comparison. What did Bush promise after 9/11? To bring those responsible to justice. We know from context of the original trilogy that Palpatine was behind the Jedi purge. What is the "Fox News" ticker claiming in the picture? That Palpatine is vowing to bring the perpetrators to justice. There's an equivocation there between what Bush said in 2001, and what Palpatine has said in the picture. Connect the dots. Palpatine engineered the Jedi purge, and used it to his political advantage. The inference? That Bush did the same thing with the World Trade Center. Maybe I'm just reading too much into it, that's entirely possible, but the use of the Fox News trademark suggests a certain political sensibility on the part of the author, one which I tend to doubt is sympathetic to President Bush. The comparison is certainly being drawn between Bush and Palpatine. The question is whether the author intended the further comparison laid out above. If I'm right, you can see why I would find it distasteful. And if I'm wrong, well, it certainly wouldn't be the first time, would it? |
I thought that Zell Miller was Emperor Palpatine
|
Does that make Dick Cheney Darth Vader?
|
Quote:
Na- Vader was cool. |
Who are the Bush twins? Luke and Leia?

I think people are automatically jumping to the 9/11 image because Franklin tied it to that with the subject of the post. Had he not done that, I don't think the connection to 9/11 would be as real. I'm assuming Franklin pulled this from somewhere. If he's the author, then clearly he was trying to make a 9/11 connection. But I don't think he's sharp enough to pull that off. No offense. |
Quote:
No, Leia and Leia. Mmmmmmmmmm.... two Leia's. Um, excuse me. I have something I need to do. |
Quote:
I didn't make the image, I just found it somewhere. I honestly just thought it was a funny photoshop job... no political agenda here or anything... Star Wars isn't real, people. George Lucas OBVIOUSLY was going for 9/11 imagery with that shot. I think the above picture is just someone picking up where he left off and having a little fun with it. |
Count me in the majority that think Franklinnoble is tasty..
|
This thread proves political correctness isn't just for liberals.
