PING: Ksyrup-Porc Tree thoughts
Thought I would post it publicly cause it's just so damn good.
The first track on In Absentia rocked! I tried to think of who it sounded like, but couldn't put my finger on it. Drums sounded like Rod Morgenstein (Jelly Jam stuff). Same with the basic groove. Yet, they do have a sound all their own. I wasn't captivated by the vocals right away(style), but they are growing on me. (Lyric in second song is really cool...something about a sixty ton angel falling from the sky). Muzak was interesting to listen to. I can see why Neil Peart thought that to be his favorite song by them, lyric-wise. Drums sounded REALLY good. Very clear and punchy. Guitars were pretty standard in regards to tones. What was cool (besides the rhythms in 5s, 6s, and 7s) were some of the lead parts reminded me a lot of Steve Howe, guitar player for Yes. Thanks for the heads-up. I will check out the other stuff you mentioned. |
DOLA:
Needless to say, the rest of the album was fun to listen to. The back half of the record was pretty strong. |
Glad you like them. I figured you would.
Maybe it's just because it's new and I'm still in the "honeymoon" phase, but I think Deadwing is even better. The songs flow better and the heavy stuff is seemlessly integrated into the songs, rather than having to wait 3-4 tracks for a heavy song. Now, most of the songs have all of the PT qualities within each song. I'm still listening to it every day. |
BTW, if you need Deadwing before it's released on April 19, let me know.

I understand where you are coming from. In Ab. seems a bit choppy as far as the album sequence goes. I can wait til April 19th...i think |

FYI, Deadwing doesn't come out until April 26, now. The lyrics from Sound of Muzak, which are awesome: Hear the sound of muzak Drifting in the aisles Elevator prozac Stretching on for miles The music of the future Will not entertain It's only meant to repress And neutralise your brain Soul gets squeezed out Edges get blunt Demographic Gives what you want Now the sound of music Comes in silver pills Engineered to suit you Building cheaper thrills The music of rebellion Makes you wanna rage But it's made by millionaires Who are nearly twice your age One of the wonders of the world is going down It's going down I know It's one of the blunders of the world that no-one cares No-one cares enough |
Cool, thanks.
