Simulating The 2005 MLB Season
OK, with opening day fever gripping me I am going to do a little 2005 projection simulation with PureSim. Here is what I did:
1. Downloaded user-created 2005 rosters. 2. Imported 2005 schedule 3. Ran the aging algorithm on all the players to account for improvement/decline since 2004 (1 year) 4. Set up the league to run in replay mode (the same season will play over and over) I'm going to go ahead and sim the 2005 season 10 times and see who comes out on top. Here is how my beloved Red Sox April stacks up Here is what the AI decided to do with our rotation (I know Wade Miller is hurt but hey its my test!) And here is what the AI has done with the lineup. Any predictions? I'll post some results as things unfold. |
Huh...guess I forgot that you were just over the bridge, Shaun. :)
Should be interesting to see how this turns out. |
If I get this right im going to Vegas.
Sox go 15-9, splitting with the Yanks. |
Forget Vegas

Unfortunately they went 12-12 and the Yanks won the April series 4-2. I need to go make some code modifications, because obviously something must be wrong :) |
One season in the books.
Sox missed the Wild Card by one game!
Yanks won the WS over the Dodgers, Randy Johnson won the AL CY (20-6 3.46), A-Rod won the AL MVP, maybe this was a bad idea.... Notables: Pedro (12-9 3.41 230K) Adam Dunn had 59 HR Thome NL MVP Tejada AL Batting Champ (.358) Joe Nathan had 54 saves! I'll post again after a few more simulations are complete... |
No Millar in the lineup. We better call Epstein and tell him to get Mirabelli in their as Dh.:)
|
Renteria batting first?
That guy is an RBI machine! :) He hates hitting anywhere above 6th. Todd |
Braves in LAST? Bug, bug......:)
|
What do ya mean Detroit is 10 games under .500!
Didnt ya see Pudge. He lost 22 pounds  |
Cubs Win Cubs Win!
OK I know I said I was going to wait a few seasons before posting again, but I can't resist...
The Cubbies won 2005 sim #2! Santana and Peavy won the CYs... |
Shaun,
Got a link to the roster set you are using? |

WooHOO!! Go Cubbies! Now, if only I had a reason to get this excited about the Cubs in real life... :D |
The Astros last in the NL Central, eh?
Whatevah... |
Its about time the Cubs won...of course Wood and Prior were probably healthy in the game...that would definetely help.

Results after 10 Sims
OK after simming 2005 10 times unfortunately PureSim loves the 2005 Yankees.
World Championships Yankess 6 Cubs 2 Phillies 2  Notables: - Jim Thome won the NL MVP 9 out of 10 times! - KC Was the worst team going 605-1015 - The Yankees had a career .633 Winning Pct - The Cubbies won 112 games one season - Jake Peavy won 3 CYs, Santana 5, RJ 4 Here are some results: Screen 1 Screen 2 Screen 3 Screen 4 Screen 5 Screen 6 |
Is this your subtle way of telling us that PureSim can sim 10 seasons in less than 4 hours now? ;)
|
You had me till I saw LaTroy with 490 saves.
Unless he had 550 blown saves along with that, I disbelieve. :) |

Jeebs, they are last in my MVP dynasty as well. :p Todd |
Lynch's set is sparce in the minors, is there anyway to create players?

The sim engine obviously works fine... :D |

Hater  ;) |
Second time I've seen Detroit come in at under .500. I would be very interested in seeing their stats, in particular where the breakdown was (starting pitching? Cause with the AI running the team Tram cannot be responsible for blowing games!)
|
Jesus Christ, man!! Nobody cares about all of this shit.
All we really want to know is... What were Chan Ho's stats???? |

There was a 35 man roster limit. Since I was trying to crank out the set and it was earlier in Spring, I ended up with about 30 veterans per team. After that I tried to stick in the top 2004 pick and 3-8 of the top prospects per team. Originally I had planned on doing many more minor leaguers, but because of details I won't bore you with here it was impossible to do anything but 35 man rosters. |
Ok, thanks. I appreciate your effort.

Oh and to answer your question - yes. You can create players or edit the players that are already created. Go to the 'players' area. I think you can create with the buttons on the left. You can edit the fictional players by just clicking on them which is what I did to have fewer fictional players. |

If you or anyone else improves upon the rosters feel free to post them here and at the Puresim board. I spent very little time on any veterans so many of them need rating adjustments and while I looked up about 90% of the prospects (so they should have the right ages, heights, weights, etc) they were rated on my general feeling about them. I also didn't have my 2005 BA handbook yet, so I used the 2004 version along with on-line resources. The most major addition at this point is to add stadium pictures and set up the PSPN casts - it really isn't hard if you've got the stadium pictures... I was suprised at how easy it is. On the one I'm using, I found a file with about half the pics, and set up those - but I did it in a version that I already started the season is - so it's pretty much useless to anyone else. |
