California vs. Texas

Capital city:Sacramento vs. Austin: Sacramento isn't exactly the best representation of California, with it's dusty, non-west coast feel. Austin is a college town and one of the major music scenes in the country. ADVANTAGE: TEXAS

Weather: Now, it's pretty hard to beat California in the weather department. The marine layer always keeps the coast balmy, and you can get 4 different kinds of weather depending on what part of California you are in. Texas? Well, it's hot there....ADVANTAGE: CALIFORNIA

Sports Franchises: Texas has the NBA's Rockets, Spurs, and Mavericks, the MLB's Astros and Rangers, the NFL's Cowboys and Texans, and the NHL's Stars. The Cokeboys, Rockets, and Spurs have all titles recently, and the rest are generally competitive. California has (hold your breath) the NBA's Kings, Warriors, Clippers, and Lakers, the MLB's Athletics, Giants, Angels, and Dodgers, the NFL's Raiders, 49ers, and Chargers, and the NHL's Sharks, Kings, and Mighty Ducks. The Lakers, Angels and 49ers have won titles within the past decade. Well, no matter which state you're in, there are a bevy of viable teams to root for. ADVANTAGE:DRAW

Crazy People: Texas has had David Koresh's fun bunch, the dudes who dragged the black guy behind the truck, and Dr. Phil. California has had the Manson family, Heaven's Gate, Hollywood, hippies....California has better whackjobs. ADVANTAGE: CALIFORNIA

Exports: California has wine, movies, and sourdough bread. Texas has beef and the Bush family. I loves me some steak. ADVANTAGE:TEXAS

Sightseeing: California has the Golden Gate Bridge, which is where hundreds of people have plummeted to their deaths, or the Alamo, which may or may not still reek of Ozzy Osbourne's urine. California has napa valley for wine sipping, while Texas has South Padre Island for pouring beer on co-eds. I guess what it all boils down to is, when someone wins the Super Bowl, do they say "I'm going to Disneyland"? Or "I'm going to Six Flags Over Texas"?ADVANTAGE:CALIFORNIA

State Motto: California has "Eureka!", while Texas has "Friendship". Friendship is just lame, but Eureka loses the clean victory because of all those nerdy 5th grade math teachers who insist on shouting it everytime someone solves a word problem. ADVANTAGE: DRAW

There you go, California wins 3-2 :)

mckerney 04-07-2005 07:09 PM

Texas. It's not even close.

Texas should also win sports in a landslide, even though they are state of hockey stealers, and they've benefited more than any other state as far as uncalled offensive pass interference calls helping a team make the Super Bowl.

cartman 04-07-2005 07:13 PM

You forgot about Texas' concealed handgun law, and I think it's always open season on Californians... :)

Strange thing between the two states. I was born in Texas, but lived for over 5 years out on the left coast. If you ask someone from Texas where they are from, they will say "Texas". If you ask someone from California where they are from, they say "L.A.", "San Fran", "San Diego", etc. They almost never say they are from California.

Dola,

As for wine, there is a Vineyard only a couple of miles from my place here, outside of Austin. :p

I've got a bottle of Driftwood Vineyard's Super Texan open right now. It's a Texas version of a Super Tuscan. The label has a silhouette of Texas, with a solid shape of Italy over the silhouette, and the boot heel of Italy has some spurs. Good stuff! :D

Karlifornia 04-07-2005 07:28 PM

I was just messin' around, I'm just sure the Texas wine is good stuff. Now do you like your wine white or redneck?

Redneck of course, I can't stand that Kalifornia White Whine.... :p

Huckleberry 04-07-2005 07:40 PM

I've lived in both. Therefore my vote for Texas is unbiased.

Me too. California, easy.

Desnudo 04-08-2005 01:34 AM

It would depend on which part of Texas and which part of California.

Franklinnoble 04-08-2005 02:13 AM

Well, I haven't lived in Texas, but I've spent time there. I'll break it down by city:

Texas:

Dallas - Home of the Cowpies. As if that weren't bad enough, it's just a sprawling lot of nothing. Sort of like Phoenix, only less organized, and not as clean.

Houston - What a pile. A sprawling, miserable, humid pile. Only place I've ever been where I've noticed humidity in the dead of winter. Depressing relic of an oil town that should have been put down a long time ago.

Amarillo - Driven through it about 20 times. It smells. The whole panhandle smells.

San Antonio - Never been there, but I hear it's nice. I don't believe it. There must be something wrong with a city where you can buy 10 acres with a house on it within 30 minutes of downtown for under $200,000.

California:

Los Angeles: Rotting, smog-riddled cesspool of crap. Represents everything that's wrong with Southern California, and most of what's wrong with America. Overcrowded and overrated. No real culture - unless you consider ethnic gangs to be a cultural asset.

San Diego: Everyone raves about the weather. So what? It's like a nice beach town - only it's a filthy metropolis. Crowded. Bad traffic.

San Francisco: Again, way overrated. There's nothing to do there outside a few overpriced tourist traps. Washington DC has a better zoo, and Baltimore has a better aquarium. Overcrowded and disgustingly expensive to live there. That's why everyone in the city is either a rich white boy or a homeless person.

Sacramento: Basically, my hometown (actually, I live about 40 miles east). This city has a major inferiority complex. All it has going is the state capitol, and that's not saying much, considering the state of the government. I have no idea how they rate a major sports franchise, but it's pathetic. Yes, the fans are rabid. Too rabid. Like a pimply faced geek who got a date with a reasonably good looking chick - the city just doesn't know how to handle it. It's a cow town. The affluent are lawyers and those sucking off the government. That's it. No culture at all. It reminds me of Tucson, only without a decent university, but at least with decent natural surroundings and climate.

So, in conclusion, both states suck. I refuse to vote. I'd rather live in Arizona.

sterlingice 04-08-2005 02:18 AM

Friendship, my ass. Don't mess with Texas.

SI

Sports? Better college teams, better baseball teams, better Basketball teams usually (this year being an exception), you can have the NFL, and I'll finish up with Baylor being in Texas. :D

Crapshoot 04-08-2005 08:20 AM

You're kidding right ? the World's 7th largest economy vs a place which executes people like there's no tomorrow ? The tech capital of the world vs the beef capital ?

Texas isnt fit for California's division.

Tag team cage match pitting Dr. Dre and Tupac Shakur against Willie Nelson and geoorge Strait. Winner take all.

It'd be pretty boring. George would get drunk while Willie, Dre, and Tupac passed the bong.

I had to go with Texas since I lived there for 8 years. California just seems to be too faggoty in its white uniform.

If you're ever in the Fredericksburg area go check out Decker Vinyards. Really good stuff, very friendly folks, and the tour is pretty cool...

Do I even need to say who my vote is for?

Hahaha. This is like Franklin leaving Austin out of his city analysis.

Texas' economy is no slouch. Both Texas and California would rank in the world's Top 10 economies on an annual basis.

Texas is the second largest per capita economy in the world.

I left Austin out because I've never been there and I know nothing about it. I commented on San Antonio because I did a detailed cost of living analysis there about a year ago when I was considering moving there.

EagleFan 04-09-2005 12:51 PM

Easily Texas, too many tree hugging whack jobs come from California. ;)

Of course, a none of the above option would have been the best choice.

Can we get a third option?

Airhog 04-09-2005 03:35 PM

Both States suck ass! Oklahoma all the way! :D

tucker342 04-09-2005 04:12 PM

California easily.

j51 04-09-2005 05:18 PM

I'll take the one with no state income tax, no liberal crackpots, and women that aren't made out of plastic and silicone. :)

thealmighty 04-09-2005 11:56 PM

All y'all left out Ft. Worth, which still has a hockey team playing, and kicks ass.

Also Texas must be better, 'cause Califlower hates Texas, but Texas could care less about Califlower.

JeeberD 04-10-2005 08:55 AM

Fort Worth is cool cause it has The Flying Sauce right next to the Bass Performance Hall... :)

Actually, the only thing that I hate about Texas is that it's the only place where I've ever experience racism first-hand...but I suppose that was just...well...I'm not sure what I suppose.

Yeah, but Texas wants to hang people from fucking yardarms because they smoke a dime-bag of oregano. Texas needs to chill out.
