The Betting Game

I have an idea for a betting game. We will try this on a monthly basis. Here's how it works

1. You sign up, and I give you 1000 virtual dollars.

2. I will post 3-4 sporting events every week, and the line for you to bet on.

3. Your goal is to make as much cash in the month as possible. At the beginning of each month we will determine a winner. Cash totals will not reset at the beginning of the month unless you have less than 100 dollars. I Am hoping that we can do this for the rest of the year and declare a winner then, especially if interest is still decent. If interest wanes, then we will end on the last day of whatever month I decide,

4. If you have less than than 100 dollars at the beginning of the month, you will be given enough money to total 100 bucks.

5. You cannot activate this last rule, unless you have no bets due during the next month. This is to prevent people from getting free cash.

6.I may post some fun bets that pertain to FOFC members, dynasties, etc. If I do decide to post anything like this, all bets will be made via PM to not affect the outcome. I will also declare any such bets as being a private bet only.

7. You can either post your bet here, or via a PM, but only for bets that do not pertain to FOFC Members. Those bets will taken via PM only. I will not post any privately made bets until after the results of the bet are known, or if I have the time, before the event starts.

8. All bets must be made at least 15 minutes before the event starts. On some bets I may set a mandatory time limit to place, especially if the bet doesnt have one to being with. I will make every effort to post most bets at least 24 hours in advance of an event. This should give most everyone a chance to play.

9. Please do not edit your posts where you declare a bet. If you decide to bet more on the same type of bet, then feel free to add another post. Any edited posts will be declared null and void and will not count.

10. One final rule. In order to declare a winner, you must wager at least 40% of your starting bankroll in order to be declared the winner. I dont really want someone to signup and never play and somehow manage to win. You do not have to wager all 400 dollars at once, you could make any number of bets that equals 400 dollars. Also, the outcome of the bets is not important here, simply placing the bets is enough.

If you see some sort of wierd sporting event that you think we should get a crack at, feel free to PM me.

Eaglesfan27 04-09-2005 12:23 AM

I'm up for this.

sooner333 04-09-2005 01:11 AM

I am willing to do this.

TLK 04-09-2005 02:14 AM

Count me in....

Lathum 04-09-2005 10:33 AM

I'm in. Whatever I ber here, I'll just bet the oppisite in real money and I'm guarenteed to run away with this contest.

Airhog 04-09-2005 10:50 AM

Okay, I think thats a good number to start off with. I will try to post some games for next week by sunday afternoon. Also, If you have a paticular event you would like to see offered let me know, I might throw a few of these in, if they are off the beaten path as far as sports goes.

Airhog 04-09-2005 10:51 AM

Dola Here, but I will try to post the site I use for each line. I may pick one or 2 sites to use regularly, and then go with some other sites for more zany bets. :)

Eaglesfan27 04-09-2005 12:09 PM

I'll put 100 on Jimmie Johnson to win.

sooner333 04-09-2005 12:14 PM

I'll put 10 on Tony Stewart

but, should we be Pmming bets, to avoid situations where people will just duplicate people's bets behind them to avoid losing a lead?

Joe 04-09-2005 12:17 PM

I think so guys, considering:

Joe 04-09-2005 12:18 PM

but maybe you guys are posting them to throw everyone else off and make us lose money.. nice strategy.

Eaglesfan27 04-09-2005 12:22 PM

I thought the PM'ing of bets was to not affect the behavior of people on FOFC that we were betting on.

Joe 04-09-2005 12:24 PM

hmm perhaps. could throw things off regardless. I took it to mean that he was saying if he decided to do anything like this, the "this" was meaning the whole thing, so to PM all bets.

Eaglesfan27 04-09-2005 12:26 PM

I didn't make that assumption, because he had already decided to do the whole thing. He was looking for signups. The "this" immediately comes after the sentence about doing bets on FOFC participants. Therefore, it would be a natural assumption to assume that, the clause about PM'ing bets specifically referred to FOFC member bets.

However, I could see some advantages of making bets private. What might be more interesting is to have the option to either PM your bet or make it public. Adds another level of potential strategy.

Joe 04-09-2005 12:40 PM

or we could post fake bets and pm the real ones

chinaski 04-09-2005 01:02 PM

how could i turn this down? count me in.

Airhog 04-09-2005 01:52 PM

Hmm Let me clarify the rules some folks! :)

Airhog 04-09-2005 02:14 PM

I updated the rules for everyone, hopefully those are clear. Also I have decided to play aswell. Since I consider myself a total betting noob, dont expect me to even to well.

My first bet will be 10 dollars on mark martin. I love this guy, and he has won here a few times before.

TLK 04-09-2005 02:22 PM

Put me down for $30 on Riggs

Radii 04-09-2005 10:53 PM

I'll take $10 on Earnhardt, JR I gues.

Eaglesfan27 04-09-2005 10:54 PM

Just to clarify, if I put money on a team to win the World Series and later fall below 100 dollars, I won't be able to get back to 100 dollars until after the World Series is over?

Airhog 04-09-2005 11:59 PM

EaglesFan: After looking at the rule in another light, I changed it slightly so it is more consistent. I dont want to discourage anyone from betting on the long bets, because they are afraid they might run out of cash down the line. Changing the rule should accomplish this, and keep people from making bets just to get some free cash.

Airhog 04-10-2005 12:03 AM

One question I have for those playing. What kind of sporting events would you most like to see? If I only post bets that intrest me, then I would imagine the interest would be lost fairly quickly.

Baseball and NBA playoffs should get some action.

sooner333 04-10-2005 04:03 AM

Yeah, you could do a baseball game of the day every so often...unless the moneyline would be too time-consuming to compute.

Airhog 04-10-2005 01:48 PM

Im thinking about doing these three on a regular basis.

1. Baseball
2. Basketball
3. Nascar

And on a not so regular basis
1. Golf
2. Boxing
3. Horse Racing
4. Other sports

Of course when fall hits and football is back in swing, I will definately do that on a weekly basis, for both college and pro sports.

Joe 04-10-2005 01:51 PM

can we get some soccer action? most online sites should have the odds.

Airhog 04-10-2005 02:23 PM

GWB: Thats not a problem, Would you rather see international Flavors or MLS?

Joe 04-10-2005 02:31 PM

international. what I'm most up on is the spanish and italian leagues, so those could work. I know people here are into the english premier league as well.

Airhog 04-10-2005 05:04 PM

I added a few more bets, totaled up the current standings. Still looking for a site with good Soccer odds. It seems that most of the games only open up betting 24 hours before the game. Will try sometime to get some of those games on every now and then.

Sublime 2 04-10-2005 05:13 PM

Can i still jump inot this?

Airhog 04-10-2005 05:18 PM

Sure, there is no closing on the signups

Joe 04-10-2005 05:28 PM

TLK 04-10-2005 05:49 PM

Sublime 2 04-10-2005 06:45 PM

$50 on Florida Marlins to win the World Series.
