DVD Burner Advice
Hey Everyone,
I am looking for some advice on a DVD burner for my PC. What I want to be able to do is record my VCR tapes onto the hard drive, and then burn to DVD (so I'm going to need some sort of VCR-in card as well). Any advice? By the way, the digital camera advice I received was great. I love the Canon A95 that lots of people recommended. Bob |
I guess no one else owns a DVD burner.

I own one. This is what I have (it dual layer too *where it is capable buring on both sides of the disc*).

It's one of the better ones on the market and it's not expensive. |

Mini-rant: while people post here pretty regularly, 1 hour and 43 minutes is an awfully short time to get impatient with the members of this board. I've got an early Sony model. www.anandtech.com reviews burners pretty regularly, these things are getting pretty close to being a commodity now. |
I have the NEC 35xx also and it is a great drive. Picking the drive and getting it to work are the easy part, the hard part is capturing the video/audio and manipulating it. I gave up and bought a DVD recorder (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1077626065940) I could have bought another capture device and done it all on the PC, but this just seemed a lot easier. I have been using it for a month and it does what I need it to. I don't know if it will copy all VHS stuff, but it captures from my camcorder and a video from 1984 we did not want to lose.
You should also check out www.vcdhelp.com. They have information obout the burners, video capture devices and everything else including tutorials on how to do anything I could think of. |
Thanks guys. Sorry to be impatient.

bob, if you do decide to buy a new DVD burner then I would really recommend the dual layer (also known as double layer) drives. The actual dvd disc's are a bit more expensive but it is well worth it.

BLAH! I should have known what you meant. :) OK, I use Nero Buring and Alcohol 120%. I have the latest and greatest versions. :D |
I read up on this not to long ago from Tom's hardware guide. Basically all of the major brands are pretty equal. Just go for a Dual Layer burner and you'll be fine. Right now the price of dual layer discs are too high. It might take more discs to burn at DVD5, but they are only about 1 dollar a disc, compared to like 6 bucks for the dual layered ones.
