if you read the article, the guy gets all pompous about how he's saving quality of life by doing this, and that he had to run for his life after using the device in a sports bar and getting caught doing it :D

That's fairly amusing though I gotta admit I wouldn't go spend money on a device like that. Especially when there are a lot of free hacks to do the same with, say, your PDA.

I'm not sure I'd use it in a laundromat or sports bar...but the idea of using it on our living room TV when my roommate is watching Dr. Phil or Oprah (and yes, he's a guy) is just damn appealing...

We used to live next to a guy who had some device that would make radar detectors go off, so when my wife and I would drive down to South Florida, we'd borrow it to make the drive a little more entertaining. There was nothing quite as satisfying as having some asshole weaving in and out of both lanes, coming up behind people and flashing lights, etc., whiz past us, and then setting off the radar detector and watching them go from 95 to 70 in about 2 seconds. I remember this one guy, we kept him with us for about 45 minutes until he decided his radar detector must be malfunctioning or something, and he decided to take off.

Good times...

Don't want TV? Fine, throw yours out.

You know how they should advertise for this? I heard a lot of people watch television :) That could be their medium of choice.

Why the bloody fuck would you go to a sports bar if you didn't want to have to deal with televisions? There are plenty of other kinds of bars out there that don't have TV's in them...

I would much rather spend my money on something that jams all cell phones around me.

So this thing just turns the TV off, right? I mean, it takes all of what, 3 seconds to turn it back on? Oh, but then sometimes you have to wait a few more seconds for the screen to fade in.

So, the guys who spend enough time in bars for the amount of tv they watch there to be a problem - turning the tv off in the bar will improve their q.o.l. significantly?

I would be pretty pissed if I was watching a playoff game and someone did that.
