I thought I'd just add the IGN review:

I have been aprehensive about this one. If it's like the first one then count me out. Too long to beat the game and not too many victory conditions. Now if it were like RON then Im sold.

CHEMICAL SOLDIER 04-26-2005 12:03 AM

Dola: Whoever gets this first, please give a review so i could check it out.

Sharpieman 04-26-2005 10:28 AM

Well I played Rise of Nations and this game is a lot like it. I only played the Demo and it basically looks like a copy really, however there are some diferences of course. Some of the graphics are pretty nice, like weather changes that make it a little more difficult. One thing I don't like is the way the tech tree is setup. Civ 3 and RON have better ways of putting their tech trees out. The way the battles are displayed is really cool. You can actually zoom in all the way and see individuals fighting. Units move much faster than they do in RON which is nice. I suggest you check out the demo before buying it, go to filefront or something and check it out.

Thanks for the heads up sharpieman. I'll probably wait until a few patches before buying the game since I normally play multiplayer with it. The first Empire Earth was a solid game, but I definitely preferred Rise of Nations. Hopefully EE2 will make the necessary improvements and jump to the top of my list.

CHEMICAL SOLDIER 04-26-2005 04:40 PM

The game looks awesome but I hope its cool for the time challenged.

Ben E Lou 04-26-2005 04:42 PM

I very much enjoyed Empire Earth. This game is not even remotely EE2. It is RON 1.5. They've taken out several things that were uniquely EE, like custom civs, changed all of the hotkeys around, and generally made the game worse, not better.

jbmagic 05-03-2005 06:41 PM

this game looks very similar to rise of nation by microsoft.

anybody try EE2 yet by sierra?

Greyroofoo 05-03-2005 07:55 PM

I bought EE2 last Friday, and have played some skirmishes

I was an avid player of the first EE.
However I find the game in skirmish mode to be kind of bland. I remember in the first one the gameplay kind of changed as you advanced through the epochs. In the sequel things don't seem to change until you get airplanes. The units also don't seem as varied as in the first, however they did being in spies and paratrooper planes(which are kind of fun to use).

The graphics aren't going to wow anyone, and the sound is bland.

I like using the citizen manager and the war planner though. It doesn't always put your units in the ideal place however it does greatly relieve some of the micromanagement.

I've yet to try multiplayer (mostly due to a disconnecting cable modem) though I've heard its a blast.

The demo IMO doesn't really show what the game is about (like FoF's demo).

Overall I say its a tough call to decide whether to recommend anyone to buy or not buy it.

Wondering this too. I have been thinking of getting Rise of Nations for a while, but decided to get Nascar SimRacing instead. Now I'm pretty much done with Nascar SimRacing, just doesn't seem as good as the older ones for PC and I'm looking at either this[almost bought the damn thing tonight] or Rise of Nations.

I've never really played a RTS that has many different time periods. I've maily played Age of Empires and Command and Conquer. I'm pretty sure in both you can start in the early ages and build up to the present, but do either make a guess about future weapons and allow you to play in the future? And which one has the best diplomacy involved in the game[most options, building relationships with other guys, etc.], i'm mainly looking at single player, not much of a multiplayer fan[except with Age of Empires.]

i have rise of nation.. and that game is really awesome. so is the expansion for it. i think you can get both cheap now.. its very solid..if you like civ 3 and age of empire. you should buy this game.

you can start on any age on rise of nations and diplomacy is very solid too.
so many different ways to play and custom the rules.

Greyroofoo 05-04-2005 05:19 PM

You can get EE1 with exp for bout 20 bucks, RoN with exp costs about 30.

Honestly I can't decide right now whether EE2 is better or worse than Rise of Nations. EE2 just has some rough edges whereas in EE1 they were polished.

EE2 is VERY customizable in its setting too.

jbmagic 05-04-2005 06:17 PM

i have rise of nation and the expansion.

if rise of nations is better than ee2. then i wont get ee2.

i will just get EE1 and the expansion for it. most say its good.

What I hate about EE1 is that its too time consuming and victory can only be achieved by doing total ethnic cleansing of all enemy units.

The AI cheats horribly in EE1. However, it is a *FANTASTIC* experience in multiplayer. I gave the EE2 demo some time, and was thoroughly disappointed. There's no way I'm buying EE2--and I probably played EE1 more than any other single version of any game I've ever owned.

Galaril 05-05-2005 03:29 AM

There is Supreme Ruler 2010 which is kind of been compared to Civ 3 and RON/AOE mixed game. It is coming out in a few days .

preveiw Supreme Ruler 2010
