Ping : Computer Nerds; I need your help

First of all, thanks for answering this call of duty.

Second, I need your help.

So I just installed Empire Earth and it was only taking up the right half of my screen. I didn't think anything of it because when the main menu came up it looked normal, taking up the full screen. But when i pushed what campaign i wanted to play and the game actually started, it was only on the right half of my screen. And it was kind of lower too, so i couldn't see about an inch of the bottom part. I messed with the screen resolution and nothing happened. I uninstalled and the reinstalled it, and nothing changed. I had it originally on my boyfriend's computer and this didn't happen. Any ideas, suggestions, comments or concerns? Anything would be welcome.

Pyser 05-18-2005 01:04 PM

i am not a computer nerd. i dont know how i got in this thread.

rkmsuf 05-18-2005 01:04 PM

Concerns? I'm concerned you have a pos computer.

LoneStarGirl 05-18-2005 01:05 PM

Or it could be a brand new dell.... either one.

Desnudo 05-18-2005 01:06 PM

Wouldn't playing Empire Earth qualify you as a computer nerd as well, missy? I actually had a similar problem with Rise of Nations, where I had trouble centering the screen on my monitor. Try adjusting the monitor settings.

TazFTW 05-18-2005 01:06 PM

video card drivers up to date?

LoneStarGirl 05-18-2005 01:09 PM

I would hope so Taz, I just got it in January and i have played Rise of Nations and Age of Mythology on it, with no problems.

TazFTW 05-18-2005 01:11 PM

Well, video card drivers get released at least once a month. I would download the newest ones before going into anything more technical.

LoneStarGirl 05-18-2005 01:24 PM

okay, how do i go about downloading video card drivers?

Marmel 05-18-2005 01:25 PM

...and this is why my wife has her own computer and is not allowed to touch mine. :)

Hey... I get on my boyfriend's computer all the time and I never mess it up. And I didn't mess mine up this time, it did it on its own. And my boyfriend is 100 miles away from me right now, so I thought that maybe I could rely on you 'nice' (that might be the wrong word) guys to help me out. But if you just want to take this time to poke fun at women, don't let me stop you.

i like to poke at women

SirFozzie 05-18-2005 01:46 PM

It's not Jeebs, it's Jeebies damnit! :)

What kind of video card do you have, LSG?

LoneStarGirl 05-18-2005 01:58 PM

I guess that should be a question that I should know Fozzie? But I don't. I'll try to find out though

Antmeister 05-18-2005 02:03 PM

The first thing I would do is just change your screen resolution to different size to see if it give you the same problem. Do this withing the game (it hopefully has that option) and if that doesn't work do so on the desktop.

Antmeister 05-18-2005 02:09 PM

The reason why I mention screen resolution is that the game's resolution may not be matching your desktop and therefore throw things off. If that's not the case, I have proven that I am not a nerd.

LoneStarGirl 05-18-2005 02:13 PM

i have actually tried that a couple of times, but it didn't work. My question is why is the main menu centered but the game itself off to the right??

Bo Jackson's Hip 05-18-2005 02:40 PM

I heart geeky computer game chicks. Pics pls, thx. :)

Antmeister 05-18-2005 02:45 PM

Oh and did you check to make sure you have all the patches for the game?

Antmeister 05-18-2005 02:47 PM

If that doesn't help, then the early suggestion of downloading new drivers is most likely right on.

rkmsuf 05-18-2005 02:47 PM

Is it plugged in?

SirFozzie 05-18-2005 02:48 PM

LSG: Sorry, I get 10 minutes at a time on this thing, and get 60 minutes a day now.
You can probably find out in your setup menu under either system or display. I would see if upgrading your video card driver helps, that solves about 4/5'ths of issues.

Is it really a brand new Dell? B/C your screen problems sound suspiciously like Runtheballs' in this thread.

While not exactly alike, they are similar enough to make me think I should avoid Dell laptops awhile. Sorry, I know that didn't help your problem much. :(

LoneStarGirl 05-18-2005 03:38 PM

It really is a brand new dell, but the monitor is not dell, its Wal Mart. I am going to upgrade my video card driver Fozzie, im sure that will fix it. If not, I'll just stick with playing my new Rome total war game.

Ignore rkmsuf. He is a post whore who no one ever pays attention to anyway. He is also thinks he is cute and funny, but I have yet to laugh at one of his posts except the penalty box diary thing.

we all have our talents.

Alf 05-19-2005 08:40 AM

watch out GE. Post 5.000 just ahead and naked pictures of all FOFC female members are going to be sent to you :)

SirFozzie 05-19-2005 08:54 AM

How'd it turn out, LSG?

DanGarion 05-19-2005 09:09 AM

The menu runs at a different resolution then the game itself (I would think). So you need to adjust your monitor settings. Usually on the front of your monitor there will be some buttons that allow you to tweak the left/right, up/down, and size of the picture, those are what you need to adjust most likely.

LoneStarGirl 05-19-2005 11:38 AM

I did the whole monitor setting thing and it didn't work because only half the game still showed, even though it was in the middle of the screen. I never could figure out what my video card driver was, so i just went to the resolutions on the game itself. First the game went side ways, then it was too big or too small, but the last resolution i picked finally worked.

I appreciate the help and advice from you guys that actually cared enough to give real suggestions. :D

And Alf, there better not be any naked girl pictures sent to GE
