New Mexico Fofc/fbcb

I'm going to start posting my results from the online fbcb league here. I am running New Mexico in the Mountain West Conference.

st.cronin 05-26-2005 10:55 AM

New Mexico recieved verbal commitments from two combo guards today.

Byron Wade, from Stevenage, UK, 6'3", 184 has been described as an exciting, physical player, and projects as a scorer at either the 2 or 3 position. Head Coach Sean Treacy commented that he wouldn't rule out considering Wade for the point guard position, either. "He's got terrific skills. You know, not to put a lot of pressure on him, but this is the kind of guy that you visualize making big plays at the end of big games. He's absolutely an NBA-type talent."

Scott Weimer, from Prescott Valley, AZ, 6'3", 194, is considered a bit more of a project, but could eventually contribute in any number of ways. "He has a broad foundation of skills to build on. If he works hard, there's no telling how good he could be," commented Treacy.

With the start of the basketball season just around the corner, New Mexico rookie Head Coach Sean Treacy has not much time left to mold his young charges into a competitive unit. 'Young' is putting it mildly; it's unlikely any seniors will be impact players.

Backcourt

Junior Joshua Steinke (6'0", 184) has a lightning first step, and a deadly outside shot. His assist to turnover ratio last season was just about even, which could lead to him playing mostly 2 guard. That would open up the point for tiny sophomore John Bailey (5'7", 172). 5th year senior Norman Ford (6'3", 195), the elder statesman of this group, could be a capable backup at either position, or could even work his way into the starting lineup. Treacy has indicated that Kelvin Swenson (6'0", 182) and Charles Todd (6'4", 199)will likely redshirt this season, and with Byron Wade and Scott Weimer coming in next year, this could be a crowded backcourt in the future.

Frontcourt

There's not a lot of quality size here. Junior Jeffrey Prieto (6'7", 230) has started the last two years, contributing oodles of rebounds, and solid defense, and will likely be the leader of this group. In certain situations, he could even play center. Sophomores Jerry Clark (6'9", 248) and Freeman Larock (6'9", 251) provide the best size, and will likely combine with Prieto to fill the post positions. The wing forward could be either junior Elroy McLean (6'6", 214), or the more athletic freshman Parker Crocker (6'8", 233).

Freshmen Luther Best (6'8", 250), Cornelius McDermott (6'11", 237), and Terrance Pryor (6'6", 228) will round out the bench.

There's quite a bit of pressure on our squad this year; fans expect them to compete for the Mountain West Conference title. Hopefully, the growing pains of this young squad won't be too painful to watch

Despite an all-star performance from guard Josh Steinke, New Mexico fell to Oklahoma 95-92.

Steinke led all scorers with 41 points (a D1 season high) by shooting 10-19 from the field, and an astonishing 14 for 14 from the free throw line. Backcourt partner John Baily added 14 points and 8 assists, and Elroy Maclean dropped in 17. Jeffrey Prieto led all rebounders with 14. The Sooners were led by Willis Kremer (18 points on 8-9 shooting), and a more balanced attack; all 5 starters scored in double digits, despite some foul trouble in the backcourt.

Coach Treacy, after the game, had this to say: "We played the way we wanted to play, offensively; we got the ball where we wanted it, and got the kind of shots we wanted. Where the game got away from us a little bit was defending their post players, and just the overall pace of the game - we were hoping to limit the possessions a little bit more."

On Steinke: "Well, he's obviously a very good player. I mean, in the second half there, everytime he got the ball with space, the crowd pretty much went silent. He's not easy for anybody to guard."

On Oklahoma: "That team is terrific. Their post players are on a different level. I think you have to consider them a favorite in the Big 12."

Looking forward to our matchup on 12/06!!

st.cronin 05-26-2005 02:39 PM

Watch out, Neuq - I think we match up with you better than we did with OK, and we went toe to toe with the Sooners. We're not likely to be an easy win for you!

Radii 05-26-2005 03:50 PM

Excellent :) Looking forward to following this. Good luck in your games vs NC State and Illinois, those will be toughies. Nebraska has become a decent team IIRC as well.

st.cronin 05-27-2005 10:24 AM

I agree Radii. I actually don't have high hopes for this team; I was extremely impressed with our performance in Oklahoma. I predict maybe a .500 OOC record.

New Mexico Cruises in Home Opener

John Baily led the way as the Lobos opened up a big early lead over in state rivals New Mexico State, and never looked back. Baily scored 18, dished out 10 assists, grabbed 4 steals, and collected 6 rebounds in an impressive overall performance. Joshua Steinke led all scorers with 25 points; Jerry Clark helped out by grabbing 13 rebounds; and Norman Ford came off the bench to add 13 points in just 20 minutes.

Coach Sean Treacy had this to say about the game; "Rebounding was what won the game for us. We were about even in terms of shooting and turnovers, so the extra 18 rebounds we collected made all the difference. That's why I gave Jerry, with only 2 points, one of our game balls - he was crashing the boards hard all game."

On Baily's performance: "He doesn't have the handle that a lot of other point guards have, but he's got all the other qualities you look for. He's quick, and he knows where his teammates are supposed to be. I'm not at all surprised he played that well."

Apparently the box scores get lost after each sim?

link to html for the game against NC State: http://www.angband.org/~radii/boxes/box215-20.htm

Steinke is held to 5-15 shooting, and fouls out in 25 minutes. His first bad game. John Baily comes close to a triple double (9 points, 8 assists, 10 rebounds), and we trail by just a point at halftime, but NC State blows us out in the second half and hands us our second loss of the year 79-61.

st.cronin 06-02-2005 09:36 AM

http://www.angband.org/~radii/boxes/box218-3.htm

The story here is a 56-27 rebound edge for us. Somehow, we still only beat Utah State by 10. Steinke returns from his off game to drop 33; Baily adds 17 with 8 assists, Jeff Prieto grabs 20 rebounds, and Elroy McLean makes a nice 2nd option, scoring 21.

Illinois is the #1 team in the country, so the result (a 93-74 loss) is not unexpected. Turnovers kill us; 29 turnovers vs. only 28 field goals = a loss on the road to a good team pretty much every time. Steinke has another nice game, scoring 24 points with 5 rebounds and 5 assists.

Not quite a *bad* loss, but a home game we should have won. Our lack of a solid post player really hurt us here. Steinke puts up 22 points, and McLean adds 21, albeit with 6 turnovers, quite unacceptable.

The old box scores, when I try to open them, I get a message: "Box score unavailable." The only ones I could open were from the most recent sim.

Do you wipe out and recreate your FOFC FBCB dir every time you download the file?

I only include the box scores from the most recent sim in each file, but if you unzip into the main FOFC FBCB dir each time then it'll overwrite the core league files but it should give you the current box scores and play by play without erasing old ones.

If you don't download a file for a specific sim then you won't get the box scores from it though.

I save them all however, and I'm due to put up a boxscore file for those that might have missed some, I'll try to do that after tonight's sim :)

If you don't download a file for a specific sim then you won't get the box scores from it though.

I save them all however, and I'm due to put up a boxscore file for those that might have missed some, I'll try to do that after tonight's sim :)

That's probably it. I'm pretty retarded when it comes to zip/unzip/file/directory/etc.
