Sometimes OOTP is just flat out stupid.

Bottom of the 10th and the game is tied, runners on 2nd and 3rd with no one out.

I intentionally walk Russell Branyon to load the bases to setup the force out at the plate.

I set the defense to Infield In.

Bill Hall comes up and hits an easy groundball to the pitcher, where do he throw the ball? My stupid pitcher throws the ball to second to try and get a double play that way. Which wouldn't be a bad idea had the DAMN WINNING run not been on 3rd and scored without a play.

WTF

You should send this post straight to Markus. The 6.5 release is getting close and maybe he can take a look at this.

Good idea!

jbmagic 06-12-2005 12:12 PM

and post this too in ootp forum too.

McSweeny 06-12-2005 12:20 PM

maybe it was a ball that the pitcher had to field with his momentum going towards second base or with is back to the plate

Sorry but that play can't be defended. There were no outs. A double play meant nothing.

You still have to try to make the play at the plate.

jbmagic 06-12-2005 12:24 PM

yep..he has to attempt to throw at home and see what happens.

the winning run is coming home. "NO OUTS"

Markus just told me that this issue is fixed in 6.5.

Man...I can't wait for 6.5. Hope it lives up to the hype.

That's a question for Skydog at the moment. ;)

Thanks to EHM, I'm going to wait at least a week or two before delving into 6.5. There is a good fan base for ootp that will ensure once 6.5 is released, issues that are still in the expansion code, will hopefully get fixed in a post 6.5 patch.

Too bad you have to pay $10 for a bug fix. But such is business.

But what KC said is legit. Is it possible that the previous 6+ versions of OOTP didn't have the logic that in a tie-game with no outs and the bases loaded, whoever fields the ball should do whatever possible to get the ball to home? I really hope that's just something that came up as other things were developed, but who knows.

Not to threadjack here, as this was talked about plenty in the thread announcing the "expansion pack," but if there are bugs this glaring that are fixed in 6.5, there should be a simple, free patch for these types of bugs/glitches, and then a secondary set of features that are being implemented for a small fee.

MizzouRah 06-12-2005 11:07 PM

I understand what kcchief is saying.. I'm mostly just giving him shit.. but I will say I believe the expansion pack was mainly for additions to the game. People did bring to light some bugs that needed attention and Markus has fixed those, hopefully.

Some of the issues require a re-write of the game, which will be ootp v7.

Maybe that specific bug happens 1 out of every 5 times? I know most people don't play their games out.

I understand the concerns, but not all bugs are simple fixes.
