Guitar Players

Anyone have any tips on playing slide guitar? I'm interested in incorporating a little bit into some of the songs I write. A friend said I could use a lighter, which I tried (semi-successfully). How should I hold this lighter; and should I just invest in a slide?

experiment experiment experiment

Experiment with materials, techniques, tunings, etc.

Personally I use a shot glass, guitar tuned mostly in 3rds with a double E on top.

Michelob Dry bottles used to be perfect
I also used a piece of some sort of brass pipe I had found

I use a glass slide that cost me about 5 bucks. You'll probably need to set the action on your guitar a little higher too.

a beer bottle works great

Plus, using a beer bottle as a slide makes you look cool as shit. Think big picture here. Why are you playing guitar in the first place?

Why did Michael Jackson learn how to moonwalk? Uhh-err-wait a second....

But, anyways, I have a 32 oz. of Heineken in my fridge right now....Do I just put my slide finger into the bottle? Will that be too heavy!?! I need to know whether or not to dump out this beer for the sake of music!! I am already much too drunk, and my (soon to be ex) girlfriend just punched me in the face (this story will be part of a whole new thread tomorrow :) ) .
