Screen Names

There are some interesting screen names on various forums. Any of you care to explain your screen name or talk about why you chose that particular name?

Obviously...I am a Mark Prior fan. I hope that, in a year or two, Mark Prior isn't lumped in with Mike Harkey, Mark Fidrych, David Clyde and scores of others as "pitchers who never had the career many expected."

DeToxRox 06-19-2005 09:54 AM

The DeToxRox is from getting annoyed watching Michael Irvin on Best Damn Sports Show, and I thought to myself, "wow detox must rock". The DVH is from my old FOF name that wouldn't log in for some reason so I just added it to it.

RendeR 06-19-2005 10:00 AM

I am RendeR, I have always been RendeR, and I shall always remain THE RendeR.

Its good to be RendeR.

I thought it felt good to be a gangster. Maybe I'm confused.

Easy Mac 06-19-2005 10:28 AM

No, it does... damn does it feel good.

DaddyTorgo 06-19-2005 12:40 PM

DaddyTorgo=Torgo the Master's helper from Manos: Hands of Fate. And Daddy because I was joking (edited) around with my best friend (who has Torgo followed by a couple numbers as his SN) and I was like "I'm your daddy" and he said "no you're not" and I had to prove it to him. And that was back in the early days of the interweb, and it's kinda stuck with me.

MJ4H 06-19-2005 12:51 PM

I am the leader of the Matt Jones for Heisman club. Now I just have to find another college football player named Matt Jones. Luckily, it is a common name.

Lorena 06-19-2005 12:52 PM

I'm a Dodgers fan, and I'm a female.

Vince 06-19-2005 01:00 PM

I'll give you three guesses, and the first two don't count.

Peregrine 06-19-2005 01:08 PM

I'm a bird fan, so Peregrine is from Peregrine Falcon.

terpkristin 06-19-2005 01:26 PM

I'm a University of Maryland alumnus (I think that's the female version, to be honest Latin was never my strong point) (GO TERPS!) and my first name is Kristin. Go figure, that's where I came up with terpkristin.

Cringer 06-19-2005 01:28 PM

Cringer = took it from a old friend's dog's name. Obviously the dog was named after not only Battle Cats alter ego, but also an old punk band. Started using Cringer way back in high school and have always used it for the most part since then. Used it back then because that dog kicked ass, it was insane. It wasn't helped by the fact that you could hit it in the head with a tennis ball and make it go cross eyed, then hit it again to return his eyes to normal....

oliegirl 06-19-2005 01:36 PM

I bought my son a cat for his 3rd birthday, which he named Rolie Polie Olie (for those of you who don't have kids, this is a Disney cartoon), luckily I was able to convince him after a couple months that it was OK to call her Olie as a nickname (because always saying Rolie Polie Olie when talking to/about the cat was kind of a mouthful) and Olie morphed into Oliegirl - because she is a female cat. When I needed a name for the board it was the first thing I thought of :)

Critch 06-19-2005 01:38 PM

It's short for Crotch Itch, an ailment I'm all too familiar with.

oh. I have been pronouncing it wrong then.

i said it all-E, like what you would do on a skate board.

That is ok - alot of people pronounce Olie as Ollie - which I did know was a skakeboarding move, but only because I have spent countless hours in the past few months watching my son play Tony Hawk 4 on xbox. Prior to that I knew nothing about skateboarding, and outside of a couple random phrases (skitching, grinding, Ollie, etc...) still know nothing about skateboarding

Me oh my I can only depend on myself
The bed I make, the pills I take
The average number of times per day I masturbate

You can break down my door
But there will be nothing to see
I'm invincible to everyone
That hasn't been beside me

A sovereign state of mind
A sovereign state of desire
In reality I was born free
Not enslaved to your empire
.

Actually, a la Tom Hanks, I live in a terminal in Logan International Airport.

EDIT: 1000! Took long enough...

I got my SN from the movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and the character Dark Cloud.

Here

I hear you. 1,000 took me forever too. Then I started posting a lot more to get to 2,000 a lot quicker :)

I can sense your desire for accuracy even from beyond the county line. Many people use "alumnus" (the male singular) universally, but if precision is your goal, "alumna" is the proper female singular.

Ohio State: Keeping smarts at bay since 1870. :)

Go Purdue!

AlexB 06-19-2005 05:51 PM

Jari Rantanen was a Finnish centre forward at Leicester City (my hometown team) at the end of the 80's/early 90's. He was so overweight that the regulation shorts didn't fit him so they had to get some 'oversized' (i.e. fat b******d) sized shorts specially made for him. I signed up for the FM2005 board with the same name and thought I'd use the same for here.

Chief Rum 06-19-2005 05:58 PM

I know I have written this out before but it was neither here nor in that thread Shorty posted, so I'll post it again.

Chief Rum has nothing to do with Native Americans, the Chiefs or rum (specifically). It is short for Chief Running Mouth. It is an old fraternity nickanme given to me for my propensity to be chatty when, umm, inebriated. ;)

It was just easier to drop the name down to a simpler version. :)

MikeVick7 06-19-2005 06:03 PM

Cause I like Michael Vick and stuff.

FBPro 06-19-2005 06:07 PM

If you can't figure mine out you don't know sports sims :)

Karlifornia 06-19-2005 06:07 PM

Way back when, I really liked Nirvana...and my name is a Nirvana song.

st.cronin 06-19-2005 07:34 PM

just initials

Radii 06-19-2005 07:42 PM

Initials... Richard A Dixon II. And I was a math geek at Ga Tech when I had to come up with my first screen name and the geeky irony of having my name be radii was just hilarious to me at the time. Man I am a dork.

Ever since you became a member here I just figured you were some horny English guy who was saying how bad he wanted to get with the lead singer of the spice girls. I could have sworn that was their lead singer's name (after about 10 seconds of research I realize it was Geri Halliwell), so I just assumed that you posting the English equivlant of Jessica Simpson's panties. Interesting. I will look at your posts different from now on.

LloydLungs 06-19-2005 11:46 PM

Lloyd Bridges was in a show called Sea Hunt, and apparently he used to say, "By this time my lungs were aching for air" a lot, which became a catch phrase on Mystery Science Theater 3000 in its very early seasons. For some reason I liked this enough to go with LloydLungs. And a second MST-related screenname on this thread. Yeah!

AZSpeechCoach 06-20-2005 12:17 AM

I live in Arizona. I coach Speech and Debate. Ummm...I think that's it.

Fouts 06-20-2005 03:04 AM

Greatest. Quarterback. Ever.

IMHO.

I would like to stress that panerd's logic behind this had no bearing on my choice of screen name!

(And feel I also should post in the Jessica Simpson thread to reclaim some man points :) )
