Another trade by the Knicks and Suns (potentially)

Christopher over at realGM.com broke this story late last night - and ESPN is finally starting to carry it as well.

http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_ar...r_kurt_thomas/

Basically, the Suns would send Quentin Richardson to the Knicks for Kurt Thomas and a conditional first round pick. As a Suns fan, I like this deal as Phoenix already has a bunch of outside shooters (Nash, Jackson, Johnson, Marion) and could get another with their 05 pick (Garcia?). But this team was woeful at defensive rebounding in the playoffs and Thomas was third in the NBA in defensive rebounds in 04-05 - not to mention the fact he can also defend the post.

Kurt Thomas has been a Knick for 7 season? Wow, time flies.

I'm waiting for the Kings to trade Peja Stojacavic (sp?) for someone with a set of balls.

You miss the old school shorts, don't you.

woohoo go suns, but can kurt thomas run like richardson ?

korme 06-23-2005 02:52 PM

Why would the Knicks do this? They'd have an even bigger jam at guard with Marbury, Houston, Crawford, and then Richardson.

I anticipate that all Thomas will have to do is catch and outlet ;) Nash, Joe, Marion and Amare will gladly run ahead and score.

This begs the question:

Because they are trying to qualify for the new "6-5 and under" league?

ice4277 06-23-2005 03:24 PM

Because Isaiah Thomas is the Worst GM Ever.

How many chances does Isiah get in NY? I cant wait till he gets fired, unless, of course, he decides to go back to broadcasting.

Is Houston coming back? I think I read somewhere that his injury could be bad enough for him to retire.

Supposedly there is a one time provision where you can waive a guy and not have his salary count against the luxury tax. So Houston will be likely be waived this summer, and paid in full, just cause he likely isnt gonna play anymore, and also for the Luxury tax savings.

If a guy doesn't play for 2 years his contract stops counting against the cap.

That said, this trade makes no sense. Isaiah Thomas may be the worst GM in the NBA, but he isn't the worst GM who works in the building.

Houston played 20 games last year, so it's not likely his contract will fall off anytime soon.
